I’m very happy with my laser treatment. There’s nothing to worry about – there’s no pain, and I would recommend it to anybody. The aftercare at Optical Express is also very good. I just wish i had done it years ago. – Philip Lavelle
Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.
With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.
4. The Verdict

Had retreatment surgery on 1st March (Wavefront Lasek). Originally had Wavefront Lasik and was left with a prescription of -1 in my right eye and -0.25 in left. The enhancement was to correct my poor sight in my right eye only and had been really looking forward to this since my original treatment in June 06. The surgery itself went ok, but I dont know what has happened, neither have I been told, but I am left with sight WORSE than before my correction. Apparently they have 'over corrected' my eyesight and I cannot see close up. I am deeply upset and worried as I work on a computer yet cannot see the screen properly out of my right eye, but can with the left and this creates such a glare, terrible headaches and a ridiculous amount of time off work. After consultation with OE - they have given me glasses to wear, which make my headaches worse and defeats the object of laser surgery in the first place, and i find I am struggling with everything i do - simple everyday things like reading a newspaper - focusing on people, making a cup of tea. I feel utterly miserable and have lost faith in Optical Express. How many times will it take to give me my sight back. A 3rd retreatment??? Will it be safe? Please contact me if you have been unlucky enough to have been through this.

Had lasik wavefront with intralase on 28th February at Optical Express in Manchester. I thought that the clamping and suction part were slightly uncomfortable but as for the laser itself I couldnt feel a thing, the surgeon and his staff talked me though each part and gave me lots of encouragement and really put me at ease I cannot fault them at all. After the surgery I could see the results immediately although things were blurred I could still see more detail. The next few hours were uncomfortable my eyes kept watering and felt like I had grit in them and I could not sleep felt better sitting up rather than trying to get to sleep. Check up the next day and I was better than driving standard. I work on computers all day and had a couple of days off work the first day back I couldn't see my e-mails and suffered from dry eyes and really bad headaches which really worried me. Each day since then it has got better now I have no headaches still have dry eyes but they are getting alot better and I have no problems being on the computer all day. My right eye went slightly out of focus every now and then but that is improving each day. It is 3 weeks since I had my surgery and my only regret is that I didnt have it sooner it is brilliant seeing everything in details and the distance so clear.

I had intralase wavefront on 16/03/2007 in Macnchester. The procedure was painless but very uncomfortable, i left the room with adrenaline pumping and my hands shaking. I knew it wasnt going to be the most pleasent thing in the world but i seriously felt my body went into shock.I was given the drops to numb my eyes which worked but i still couldnt stop the reaction to blink when the sugeon went anywhere near my eyes. Infact, i think he was getting slightly annoyed with me towards the end. All in all you have to grit your teeth and get on with it. After leaving Manchester & driving back to Leeds (i wasnt driving) my eyes were sore, red, streaming & i felt travel sick as i couldnt open my eyes. I got home & went straight to bed for a few hours & i felt much better. My long distance vision is great in both eyes but my left eye doesnt seem to be as clear. Im struggling with slight blurred vision in my left eye but im hoping it will improve. I attended my 24 hour appoitment and i have 2 appove 20/20 vision in my right eye and 1 appove in my left. My eyes are still quite blood shot but im still using my drop & back for my 1 wk appoitment tomorrow. Fingers crossed my eyes are still healing and that my left eye will get better with time

I am due to attend the Nottingham branch of Optical Express on 6th April for Lasek surgery. I have read most of the comments on this page and I am still going ahead although I am very very nervous already. Can anybody give me any encouragement please?
leanne
lasik wavefront. Had surgery on saturday at Bluewater and I am feeling disapointed my eyesight feels so blured and I am unable to drive as signs and number plates are unclear, I really thought that I would be able to see by now. I paid extra for wavefront so I would acheive better vision ASAP. I really hope it improves as I feel really down about the whole thing. On many comments people with this treatment see 20/20 on the first check but I could hardly see the first line going for another check today but vision has not improved.
Claire
Had Lasik Wavefront on Fri 9 March in Leeds. Prescription was -3.50 left and -3.75 right. After reading all the risks it still didnt put me off having it done, but to be honest I'm a bit unhappy with the results. Procedure was uncomfortable but not painful as such, but watch out for the runny eyes. Thought mine were never going to stop. Eyes felt like they had got glass in them when the anaesthetic had wore off, but gradually as the evening went on eyes stopped running and felt better. Next day still a bit blurred but to be expected. Left eye hasn't improved but right eye is 20/20. Imagine wearing one contact lense, not a nice feeling and keep getting eye strain because the vision in my eyes are so different. Just been for my week after op consultation and was told the eyes are still healing and they would have to monitor my sight in my left eye for changes. I know im being a bit pessimistic but it will be a miracle if my left eye improves to be like my right. Will have to wait and see. Will keep you posted.

Had consultation on 8 January then went ahead with the surgery on the morning of 22 January 2007. Both sessions were at the Glasgow clinic. Without a doubt, the difference the surgery has made to my life is amazing. I can now see 6/4(which is the last available line on the charts!). Pretty much taken the whole thing for granted now! I had wavefront lasik with intralase so not cheap but when you're sitting there making a decision just remember it's your eyes and you only get one chance at this. Prescription in each eye was -3.50 and my treatment worked out at £1495 per eye. A friend recommended me so we each got £50 off (small snip really when you're talking £3k!). In terms of the day itself, I won't lie - it is like a conveyor belt! In some ways that puts you at ease as if its no big deal. Despite this, the staff are incredibly friendly as was the surgeon who has clearly done this A LOT (I had Susanna Boytha). I have still given the customer service rating a 5 since as far as I'm concerned who cares when you think of what you're actually paying for. I'd rather they were busy than not; and I'd rather have successful surgery than pampering. I've read a lot of people saying there is discomfort and I would definitely agree - and its a fine line between discomfort and pain at that! Having said that, I think it's just because with intralase it takes a little bit longer so you have slightly more discomfort. Funny how your memory blocks things out since now I barely remember the pain! Went home and tried to sleep but couldn't. Got up, had some lunch, went to sleep then when I got up again I had no discomfort whatsoever. It is SOOO worth it. Only thing I wasn't expecting is that your vision will fluctuate for a couple of weeks from both the surgery and the medicated eye drops which you use for two weeks. I wasn't expecting that and it did make me slightly nervous. And in the mornings you're eyes will be particularly dry. I've ended on the negative, but be assured this treatment is amazing. Go for it!

LASEK WAVEFRONT - 3 WEEKS POST OP No Improvement regarding the DOUBLE VISION and I start to depress and I really think that my treatment has simply been a failure so far. See the Optometrist this wednesday and I can read more lines but because if this Double Vision (short & long distance - I struggle to read the signs road when driving in fact I can read them only when I am in front of them...in double of course) I dont notice that my vision is changing. I am fed-up and depressed and of course because it's only 3 weeks since the treatment they put this on the healing process..I am VERY DISAPPOINTED. I do not find anyone experiencing double vision which show that this is a complication. I am back at work on morning basis as I dont feel capable working all day on the computer. I have put (work + home) all the font on my screen bigger so that it's easier to read. Will keep you updated (next check up on the 12th April) In the meatime is someone facing same problem I will be happy to know more about this.

Hi I am booked to have lasik with intralase at Bluewater on 2nd April. Am worried about possible dry eyes. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced this, and what extent of dryness to expect. Are we talking mild or major discomfort. Any comments gratefully received.
