Mr. Pauw is an experienced Ophthalmic Surgeon who has performed more than 16,000 procedures with special interest in cataract and laser eye surgery. He is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and is a fully trained Ophthalmologist who has undergone additional specialist training in refractive surgery.
He is an Ophthalmic Surgeon for Optical Express and is a consultant for the NHS. Mr. Pauw is a member of various international bodies such as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the College of Ophthalmologists of South Africa. Twice every year, Mr. Pauw attends International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) Conferences and is annually assessed by this board. The panel consists of several of the world’s most eminent Refractive Surgeons including Mr. Steven Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy, Dr. Jan Venter, a world leading Ophthalmic Surgeon, and Mr. Jeffery Machat, co-founder of TLC Vision, one of the largest laser vision correction providers in the world.
Mr. Jacobus Pauw was born in London and trained in South Africa where he qualified as a Medical Doctor and an Ophthalmic Surgeon at the University of Stellenbosch. He proceeded to gain his Masters Degree in Ophthalmology before relocating to the UK in 2001 where he has been a consultant in the Mid-Yorkshire NHS Hospitals Trust.
Mr. Pauw has made presentations in many different countries about laser surgery and regularly attends conferences relating to the field of refractive surgery, allowing him to stay abreast of all developments in the advancing field of ophthalmology.

I had Intralasik Wavefront treatment on both eyes on Friday, 23 May 2008 at Optical Express, Meadowhall, Sheffield. Mr Jacobus Pauw was my surgeon. I cannot recommend him high enough, he was friendly, professional and very approachable. Throughout my surgery he explained every step he was about to take. I felt no pain, nor any discomfort. He was very caring. My treatment took approximately 2 minutes. Although after my treatment my vision was quite cloudy, I could still vocus clearly. After 2 days my vision is still a little hazy but I went for my first check up yesterday and I can see 2 lines better than 20/20.If you are at the stage of contemplating having treatment, there really is nothing to be afraid of. I have a physical disability, my wife is visually impaired. I am therefore her eyes. The decision was scary for me and yes I had a lot at stake if anything had gone wrong but like many other people who have had it done I am another success story.Good luck to you all.
