An experienced Ophthalmic Surgeon, Mr. Mantry has performed many laser procedures including LASIK and LASEK. He is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and is a fully trained Ophthalmologist who has undergone additional specialist training in refractive surgery.
He is an Ophthalmic Surgeon for Optical Express and has gained vast experience with special interests in anterior segment and cataract surgery, and is an active member of various affiliated bodies and societies such as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Twice every year, Mr. Mantry attends International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) Conferences and is annually assessed by this board. The panel consists of several of the world’s most eminent Refractive Surgeons including Mr. Steven Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy, Dr. Jan Venter, a world leading Ophthalmic Surgeon, and Mr. Jeffery Machat, co-founder of TLC Vision, one of the largest laser vision correction providers in the world.
Mr. Mantry began his medical career in 1992 as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow’s Gartnavel General Hospital before accepting the position of Senior House Officer in East Glamorgan Hospital in Wales in 1999. He completed the Higher Specialist Training Programme (HST) in the West Midlands in 2004 where he developed special interests in anterior segment and proceeded to travel nationally and internationally, training and working in recognised centres of excellence. He progressed to the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre where he has developed his vast ophthalmologic surgical experience, becoming Specialist Registrar.
Mr. Mantry has made presentations in many different countries about laser surgery and regularly attends conferences relating to the field of refractive surgery, allowing him to stay abreast of all developments in the advancing field of ophthalmology. He is actively involved in undertaking research projects relating to laser refractive surgery and is a regular lecturer on the teaching circuit and the author of many published articles.

On the 16th and 23rd October 2009 I had replacement lens surgery by Mr Sanjay Mantry at Edinburgh Princess St. Prescription was long-sighted + 6.00 in both eyes. I had always found my glasses and contact lens uncomfortable a feeling that the prescriptions was just not quite right and a feeling of always trying to see. I now have better than 20 20 vision and feel so relax and seeing is effortless. Reading and computer work is easy as well,cost was £4200 worth every penny.Lens used Tetraflex in both eyes. I had Replacement Lens Surgery on 7th & 14th August 2009 at Optical Express in Edinburgh.Dr Mantry explained everything in detail at the frst consultation and made me feel comfortable and confident in his ability regarding the operations he would perform. He and his team were very attentive prior to surgery and made me feel relaxed about the proceedure which was totally pain free. The results the morning after surgery were astounding as I had excellent vision which has improved day by day. I find it incredible to have such good vision after years of wearing varifocal glasses and contact lenses. I experienced no soreness or redness of the eyes.I would certainly recommend this to anyone in a similar position to myself and thank Dr Mantry and his team for their professionalism and personal care.
