I’m very happy with my laser treatment. There’s nothing to worry about – there’s no pain, and I would recommend it to anybody. The aftercare at Optical Express is also very good. I just wish i had done it years ago. – Philip Lavelle
Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Fun fact: Optical Express is the only vision correction provider to invest in the iFS150 intraLASE in each of its clinics – the same technology that led to NASA backing laser eye surgery for astronauts in 2007.
Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.
With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.
Optical Express has 128 clinics in the UK alone – far more than any other eye surgery provider. Its locations include London, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dublin, with many more situated in all corners of the country.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.
4. The Verdict
I can highly recommend Optical Express. They are very professional, and the procedure was pain free. The best thing now is I can see very well without glasses – and it was only done 3 weeks ago. – Elaine Gibson

Consultation~ Inverness Treatment~ Wavefront Lasik (Inverness) I had been considering having this treatment for the past two years- but due to my cowardly nature I had procrastinated until now! On the day I was filled with anxiety and trepidation but was really pleasantly surprised by the whole procedure. The team were fantasic, especially Gemma who held my hand throughout! I only wish that I had undergone this correction years ago, if I can do it, you can too! ('',)

I had lasek wavefront done on 2/2/07 at Milton Keynes OPtical Express & was expecting it to be uncomfortable at least. This is honestly the best thing I have ever done in my entire life!!! The results have been amazing straight away, I had mild discomfort on the day my lenses were removed but other than that..nothing! Also night time driving is now really easy as I have less glare due to having had the wavefront treatment. Surgeon was fab, staff were great, wish I had done it years ago!! If you can do it, dont hesitate, it really will change your life!

Has Lasik treatment yesterday with Mr Aziz and i can only describe it as FANTASTIC! Didnt have intralase or wavefront and Im completely delighted with the results. It was a bit uncomfortable last night for about an hour, but took some co-codomol. Already recommended two other people to have the treatment.
Craig Yeadon
Extremely happy with the results so far! Despite the initial discomfort in the first few hours after surgery, I can now see well enough to read, work, drive everything! This is my first time without glasses in 23 years! The staff in both Glasgow and Livingston were very helpfull and friendly. I would reccomend Optical Express to anybody thinking about laser treatment!
David Lewis
This has been absolutely fantastic from start to finish. All the staff in Glasgow, Edinburgh and especially Livingston have all been really great! Helpfull, reassuring and courteous. The initial consultation was very straightforward as was the customvue scan (I even asked for copies of my eye 'maps') The procedure in Glasgow took minutes. Only the eye clamps were a little uncomfortable, but they are only in for a minute or so, so no real problem. I noticed an immediate improvement in my vision afterwards, despite the protevtive contacts still being in place (I had Lasek treatment) Today I have the contacts removed and hope to see a further improvement! I'm looking forward to doing without my spectacles and would reccomend Optical Express to anyone considering laser eye surgery!

Still to go for my surgery - looking forward to it but was wondering if anyone whos had wavefront lasik at glasgow eye clinc could email me about their experience? For those wanting to know about my consultation - I had that carried out in the Motherwell store and the laser councilor julie and the laser optom claire were both fantastic and answered all my questions to reasure me. my prescription is -2.25 no cyl and -1.50 no cyl so im lucky in that my surgery isn't really that expensive!!
Laura
Had consultation on 8 January then went ahead with the surgery on the morning of 22 January 2007. Both sessions were at the Glasgow clinic. Without a doubt, the difference the surgery has made to my life is amazing. I can now see 6/4(which is the last available line on the charts!). Pretty much taken the whole thing for granted now! I had wavefront lasik with intralase so not cheap but when you're sitting there making a decision just remember it's your eyes and you only get one chance at this. Prescription in each eye was -3.50 and my treatment worked out at £1495 per eye. A friend recommended me so we each got £50 off (small snip really when you're talking £3k!). In terms of the day itself, I won't lie - it is like a conveyor belt! In some ways that puts you at ease as if its no big deal. Despite this, the staff are incredibly friendly as was the surgeon who has clearly done this A LOT (I had Susanna Boytha). I have still given the customer service rating a 5 since as far as I'm concerned who cares when you think of what you're actually paying for. I'd rather they were busy than not; and I'd rather have successful surgery than pampering. I've read a lot of people saying there is discomfort and I would definitely agree - and its a fine line between discomfort and pain at that! Having said that, I think it's just because with intralase it takes a little bit longer so you have slightly more discomfort. Funny how your memory blocks things out since now I barely remember the pain! Went home and tried to sleep but couldn't. Got up, had some lunch, went to sleep then when I got up again I had no discomfort whatsoever. It is SOOO worth it. Only thing I wasn't expecting is that your vision will fluctuate for a couple of weeks from both the surgery and the medicated eye drops which you use for two weeks. I wasn't expecting that and it did make me slightly nervous. And in the mornings you're eyes will be particularly dry. I've ended on the negative, but be assured this treatment is amazing. Go for it!
Nicola
Had lasik wavefront with intralase on 28th February at Optical Express in Manchester. I thought that the clamping and suction part were slightly uncomfortable but as for the laser itself I couldnt feel a thing, the surgeon and his staff talked me though each part and gave me lots of encouragement and really put me at ease I cannot fault them at all. After the surgery I could see the results immediately although things were blurred I could still see more detail. The next few hours were uncomfortable my eyes kept watering and felt like I had grit in them and I could not sleep felt better sitting up rather than trying to get to sleep. Check up the next day and I was better than driving standard. I work on computers all day and had a couple of days off work the first day back I couldn't see my e-mails and suffered from dry eyes and really bad headaches which really worried me. Each day since then it has got better now I have no headaches still have dry eyes but they are getting alot better and I have no problems being on the computer all day. My right eye went slightly out of focus every now and then but that is improving each day. It is 3 weeks since I had my surgery and my only regret is that I didnt have it sooner it is brilliant seeing everything in details and the distance so clear.
Chris Dodds
Surgeon: Mr Rodney Blumenfeld, Shaftesbury Ave. Absolutely fantastic. It's a shame to read about poor customer service on this site, because the staff at both Peterborough and Shaftesbury Ave were nothing short of brilliant. I decided not to opt for wavefront and there was absolutely no hard sell to try and change my mind. Surgeon and nurses were extremely professional and put me very much at ease. The procedure was very fast - the flap cutting was rather unpleasant, but aside from that it was painless. Could see better immediately afterwards! Eyes were streaming for about 2 hours, and then felt completely normal. Had my check-up 18 hours later and already had 20:20 vision! Was told this should get even better as well! Over the moon. Can't recommend Optical Express enough. Worth every penny.

I just had my surgery this morning at glasgow eye clinc. Im so happy... I can see!! Not had any dry eye symptoms or anything like that or double vision which some people seem to have. All i can say is if you havent booked surgery yet then BOOK IT NOW! Im only 18 but this is easily the best thing i've ever done! Theres no pain at all during the proceedure, just a wee tiny bit of pressure - Id say that the dentist is worse!! My consultation was at motherwell store - but now my local store east kilbride has started them and my surgeon was Sanjay Patell (at least i think thats what it was - too excited to pay attention) and i got wavefront Lasik. My prescription was -2.25 ds and -1.50 ds. If anyone is nervous about surgery in glasgow please email me! But above anything if your sitting on the fence - JUST BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!
