With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.

I had LASEK surgery in September 2006 at Bluewater with Mr Wayne Crewe-Brown and just wanted to say it was the best thing I ever did. I only had a mild prescription but had hated wearing glasses for the past ten years, so after thorough research, decided to go for it. The surgery itself was quick and painless, but the following week was extremely painful and I started to wonder why I had it done. But it was definately all worth it as my vision is perfect and I can now get married next month free of glasses! Can't wait!

It is now is now 2 months since I have had my basic lasik treatment. I am so pleased with the results. The second week I did suffer a bit in my left eye with some dryness, but three weeks after surgery everything was back to normal. I can read the very last line on the chart! it is fantastic to be lenses free. I find it hard to remember what it was like to be so shortsighted. good luck

After struggling with reading with contacts over the last few years I had tried monovision with some success. On considering laser treatment I discussed monovision with the staff at Optical Express Meadowhall. Monovision is after all a compromise but they tried slightly differing contacts as a trial over a couple of weeks to get the best compromise possible on the 'reader' eye. Obviously to have monovision laser is a huge decision, but after the trials I decided to 'go for it' with Lasik Wavefront Intralase. Hopefully this would allow good enough all round vision to do everything without reading specs etc. Had surgery at about 2-30 pm yesterday (11th May 2007)at OE Nottingham with Mr Andre Oberholster, and now 23 hours later I can see clearly at both distance and close up better than I can ever remember, with no residual pain - only a slight dryness similar to wearing contacts which will improve with time. Before prescription was -2 left and -2.25 right, but really struggled to read corrected. Had to draw papers close up to read effectively uncorrected. Had full correction on left eye and right corrected to -1. The combination feels just right for good all round vision. On the day, the staff were excellent and seemed to be taking every care to get things spot on, including taking extra scans when there appreared to be a slight variance from previous information. The procedure was painless, though a little discomfort when the suction was applied to cut the flap, but quite bearable and only lasts a minute or so. The laser itself totally painless, just a loud clicking noise as it 'did the business' and only took about 10 seconds per eye. Quite foggy and blurry when got up (though still a little better than unaided before) and eyes quite red. Stinging started on the way home and couldn't stand light, even mild despite shades so just kept eyes closed!!Stinging was fairly severe but bearable! Just laid down on sofa when home but gradually the stinging reduced over the next few hours, and the clock on the video started to click into focus. Good nights sleep then woke to no pain, and superb vision, easily seeing car number plates up the street. Been for check up this morning, all confirmed as well, right eye has a couple of dry patches so prescribed Viscotears to help. Absolutely superb, pricey, but worth every penny!!

Birmingham - Surgeon: Dr George. After years of being to scared of the whole idea of this treatment I finally plucked up the courage to have Lasik with Wavefront. I had the surgery on Friday (2 days ago) and I am so chuffed with myself! - Yes it was totally painfree but a very wierd experience, I was absolutely terrified and if it wasn't for losing the money I had paid I would have pulled out but I can honestly say that if you are in doubt as to if you are brave enough to go ahead - you are! As everyone else has reported the only uncomfortable bit is when the suction is applied to cut the flap but this takes seconds and isn't as bad as having a filing! I went home went to bed for a few hours and four hours after surgery I could see - pefectly with no pain, no watery eyes etc...Went for my day one check up yestereday and could almost read the bottom line on chart - hopefully by next week it will be totally clear. HAVE IT DONE!!

Had surgery 11th May was extremely nervous but staff at Bham put me at ease. No pain during the surgery but had a stinging/burning sensation when the drops were wearing off. Woke up Saturday morning and couldn't believe it. It was brilliant better than wearing contact lenses. Went for my 5 day check up yesterday left is perfect, right eye is a little slower i have a slight swelling at the back of my eye but they seem to think its nothing to worry about and will settle down. Hope they are right. But still very pleased and well worth it.

it's been just over 1 week since my treatment, had lasik intrlase with wavefront at glasgow clinic. The surgery itself was a bit scary and uncomfortable but was over and done with really quickly, slept for hours after and any pain was taken care of with a nurofen. My consultation was at shandwick place, lynn was excellant and explained everything really well and made me feel comfortable, my councellor was jackie and she was really good fun, even though i was nervous at my consultation she made me laugh and made me realise that i was about to change my life forever, a huge thank you to all the staff at glasgow, but an even bigger thank you to all the team at shandwick place. You gave me the gift of sight. xxxx

Gets better everyday- very very pleased just wish I had it done sooner. very pleased with the service and staff.

Had surgery at the Glasgow Clinic last Wednesday 30th May. My prescription was -6.75 and -4.75. As I was first in on the day it was done very quickly and no conveyor belt feeling. Agree with others that the 'pampering' is not greatly apparent but that's not a necessity - too wound up to really notice! As with others I did feel discomfort bordering on pain for a short while as the intralase was being used but in the great scheme of things was not a problem. The actual treatment took about 20mins and I could see straight away just a bit blurry as in waking up having slept in lenses. Once the drops wore off the eyes become very sensitive to light, not painful, just wanted to close them. They starting to sting but once I got to sleep and slept for 3 hours that had all passed and I could see even better - at about the level of wearing lenses late in to the night! Went to dinner and theatre that night, apart from being tired and slightly in shock it was fine I had been worried that I would have streaming red eyes but that didn't happen. At my next day check I had better than 20/20 vision but still halos and glare off lights, I was able to drive after the consultation. Now four days on things are still fine, no gritty feeling just sometimes they get a bit dry, I keep standing up to go and take my lenses out - so weird! Still have halos but they are lessening, vision changes each day sometimes better sometimes worse but much better than before anyway! I take a nap when I can to boost the healing and wear sunglases out side and keep putting in the drops. As I had a small reading prescription the most difficuly I'm having is with close work but hopefully that will settle down. Do pluck up the courage to do this - its well worth it, scary I know but its over so quickly! Feel free to email me.

I had LASIK on Saturday 9 June, I was -2.5 and -2.25. I did it because I found wearing glasses very uncomfortable, it gave me headache and tensions and I did not want to wear contact lenses all the time. Results are fantastic, better than 20/20 vision and no worries about wearing glasses any more. The team at Optical Express was very professional and it all went very well. During the operation, I was surprised that the laser makes quite a lot noise and gives a slight smell of burnt... weird but really not painful. Half an hour after the operation when the anesthetic drops wears off I felt burning pain in my eyes for 1 hour. I kept my eyes shut most of the afternoon and was find after that. The next day it felt a bit like having lenses the wrong way around but 2 days on this is now getting much better. If you can, it is better not to go home in public transport as you really want to keep your eyes shut and avoid air/ dust/ light. I felt a bit tired for a couple of days. Overall it was so easy and the result is amazing !

Had LASIK Treatment carried out in Glasgow Renfield Street on 22nd of May 2007.I have very sensitive eyes that stopped me wearing contacts after only 2-3 hours. After surgery found it impossible to keep my eyes open for the first 3 hours till I had an hours sleep(This I knew about in advance). When I got up eyes were much better and within 4 hours immediate improvement in vision. Next day better than 20/20 vision. Only down side so far is that my vision comes and goes from day to day but must admit getting better as time goes by. Slight dry eyes but again not using drops nearly as frequently as I did. Well worth it. Optical Express Should change their adverts though as I have never met anybody yet who paid £395 pounds per eye.
