Last month I had lens replacement surgery to correct the myopia and astigmatism in my eyes after 40+ years of wearing glasses. Right from the get go, Mr Alex Ionides was very caring and empathetic, taking the time to answer all of my questions (even if they may have been asked more than once!) very patiently, efficiently and in good humour. He immediately put me at ease and on both days of the surgery, I had 100% trust and faith in his expertise and abilities. I felt very comfortable throughout. Since the surgery, I’m so happy with my near and distance vision and being free from wearing glasses. It was a bit weird between the surgeries, having one eye seeing perfectly and the other having blurred vision so I didn’t drive very much, but this is all explained in advance. I’m so glad that I had the surgery and am thankful to Alex. I knew wholeheartedly that I was in the best hands. If you want the best in every respect, Alex Ionides is the surgeon for you.

Mr. Ionides came highly recommended to me by his peers at Moorfield Eye Hospital, so I was very happy for the opportunity to have him as my eye surgeon. The service was extremely professional throughout and I felt in safe hands at all times.
Following my initial eye examination I was advised based on the thinness of my cornea to go for the LASEK as opposed to LASIK. The surgery itself was quick (10mins) and pain free. The aftercare included a list of different eye drops which kept me comfortable while my eyes healed, two to three weeks. I was able to function normally everyday within three days of surgery and as long as you stick to the routine of applying the eye drops there was no real discomfort. I could see the difference in my vision within day one though blurred at times and now two months later I have almost perfect eyesight which I am told will keep improving.
I recommend to anyone who has struggled with poor eyesight to have Laser eye surgery and consult with Mr. Ionides who is a highly experienced and professional surgeon.

I have worn glasses since I was 11 and at 57, was very shortsighted with a strong astigmatism, -11/50 / -10.50 astigmatism +5.50 / +4.00. I had previously been told that I was not suitable for laser surgery due to my thin corneas. I heard about lens replacement and started looking at my options. I considered one of the high street chains but was not left feeling confident after a consultation, my main concern was not having any personal contact with the consultant doing the surgery.

Given that you only have one pair of eyes, I decided to pay for a consultation at Moorfields. Mr Ionides considered all aspects of my sight and instead of opting for trying to correct all aspects of my vision with lens replacement, offered a combination lens replacement with Lasik surgery. He took time to explain in detail every aspect and what I could expect. I wasn’t promised being glasses free but there was a good chance. The lens replacement surgery itself was pain free though a did have a headache the next day, manageable with pain relief. The amazing experience of waking up the next day and being able to see out of one eye is difficult to describe but made everything worthwhile.

The aftercare was exemplary, as well as scheduled follow up appointments with Mr Ionides, I had his email address and was able to contact him at any time if needed. I took advantage of this and he either came back with an answer or arranged an additional appointment to see me. Recovery from the Lasik took longer than the lens replacement and has taken over 6 months for my vision to settle, long distance is 20/20 though I do need glasses for close up reading only. I would have no hesitation in recommending Moorfields, and Mr Ionides – you get what you pay for and in this case, you are paying for specialist consultants at the top of their game and the best level of care and after care available

I am very happy that I no longer have to wear contacts/ glasses which I have done since I was 16. Mr Ionides was very informative and put my mind at ease. The procedure itself was completely painless and well organised.

I would highly recommend Mr Ionides and his team to anyone looking to have their eyesight corrected.

The hospital itself has the best staff, equipment and surgery; and Alex was fantastic from the start to the end of the process. He is both highly qualified and extremely empathetic.
