I had bi-later lasik done on 23/08/06, at 0930 hours, operation went well; everything was over within 10 minutes. Dr Alex Ionide performed the operation with aid of his two asistence Allison and Ingra.I was given some anti-inflammatory drops, antibiotic and refresher to lubricate to take home. During the laser surgery Dr Alex Ionides talked through the procedure. I could smell some burning and some water go through my neck and no pain whats so ever. After eight hours I had perfect vision on my left eye and was able to watch Arsenal Champion league game on telly. The next day post assesment Dr Alex confirmed my 20:20 vision for the left eye and slightly weak vision for the right. He was not h ...  More...

I have just had my 9 month follow up with Vincenzo Maurino at Moorfields. My prescription has gone from -3.50 L and -5.50 R with astigmatism to perfect vision in the L and +0.25 R. I have worn glasses since I was 10 years old and now at 42 am able for the first time to swim, walk in the rain, jump out of bed without glasses and wear cool sunglasses for the first time in 32 years. I had EpiLasik Wavefront which means a longer recovery period, you don't get the instant clear vision of the other procedures but it involves a shallower impression on the epithelial cells of the eye and leaves no inherent weakness in the structure of the cornea etc. Not even an eye surgeon could tell I have had ...  More...

Long wait for appointment, swift admission though. Mr Stevens and his team made the process from start to finish a pleasant experience. Comprehensive tests with state of the art equipment, explinations throughout. Am delighted with the result and would recommend Moorfields. Great result with LASIK and will enjoy my lief without wearing specs emensly. My decision to use Moorfields was simple, they are the UK's leading eye hospital and have a proven track record. The private competition appeared to be too feel like double glazing firms. Hope this helps you  More...

I have just returned home after having wavefront lasik on both eyes with Dr Julian Stevens at Moorfields. I am 34yr old girl with a 3yr old daughter and I was sooooo nervous. I chose Moorfields as I know that all other eye clinics refer to Moorfields should anything go wrong, so I knew that I was at the best place. Several friends had recommend Julian Stevens as the best, as well as a few recommendations of Mr Gartry. Firstly the staff were all fantastic and put me at ease. I had my initial consultation 2 weeks ago, a couple of hours of sight tests and they diluted my pupils (none of this hurts at all, its like looking at a light close vision). Anyway on the day I was soooo scared. ...  More...

I had LASIK with by Alex Ionides on 13 September after years of agonising over whether or not to have surgery. I had a pretty bad prescription - -7.5 and -6.25, and had worn glasses and contact lenses since early childhood. I am pleased to able to be able to say that the results are fantastic and I now have great sight. I had to be "redone" on the left eye three weeks ago but now both eyes are stable and my vision is better than 20/20! My only regret? That I didn't do this years ago. The whole process is over really quickly - the best description I have come up with to describe it is that it is as though your eye is the ice and someone is skating across it! Afterwards it is a bit like a ...  More...

I had my bilater lasik done 23 Aug 2006 with Alex Ionides. He was very understanding explaining the whole procedure as I lie down on the under lazer. Whole process took less than 10mins. My prescription was R-7.50, L-6.50 with slight astigmatism. Next day left eye gave 20:20 vision right was slightly worse with little blurred vision. Three month on I have perfect vision for both eye's. No longer suffering from any dry eye. Night driving is little difficult as I still have some star gaze from road lights and car head light. My next check up is in three months. My recommendation. if you are thinking about getting laser treatment done then go for it, provded you are suitable.  More...

i've been very interested and scared about going through with laser eye surgery- but after a friend recently had it done i thought i might as well try- i've been wearing glasses since the age of 5 and im sick of them and contacts!! so yesterday i went to 1 of the 3 that i thoroughly researched and to my utter disappointment got rejected!- it is because i am amblyopic in my right eye- something i never knew i had and is untreatable as im too old for treatment. so i wandered if any one has had successful laser treatment with around -6.5 in both eyes, astigmatism AND amblyopia. would be greatful for some response. cheers.  More...

I had my 3 month checkup with Mr. Stevens. First the optometrist checked my eyes using the wavefront scanner. She printed out the results; both the left and right eye had large blue circles in the centre. Before the operation, the result print out had a lot of red and yellow. She then did the standard eye test with the eye chart. The third line from the bottom is 20/20 vision. I covered my left eye and read the chart with ease, right down to the last line. I was told I only got one letter wrong. I then covered my right eye and read the eye chart right down to the second line from the bottom. It was a little harder to read than with the right eye. I mentioned to her that I was occasionally g ...  More...

I had Lasik Wavefront surgery with Mr Gartry in February 2005. It is now over a year & a half since I was treated. I have had absolutely no problems since the operation. I found the whole experience to be quick, painless and indeed quite enjoyable. I am one of the lucky ones - there are obviously others who may not have fared as well - but I have definately benefited from it. The only thing I would mention is that I haven't been asked in for a check-up since a month after the op, but apart from that, it's been excellent.  More...

I had Epilasik surgery performed by Vincenzo Maurino on 18/4/06 and found the experience wonderful. In the lead up to the procedure I went looking on the internet for reviews of Mr. Maurino and couldn't find any. This slightly unsettled me but, having gone ahead, I am delighted with the outcome and wanted to post this comment so no-one else feels any concern about using this excellent surgeon. It is now three months on and I have pretty much perfect vision, having started at -3.25 left eye and -2.5 right eye. Now my left eye has no prescription at all and my right is -0.5. It is just brilliant not to need glasses or contacts anymore, and the whole procedure with Moorfields was exc ...  More...

After having a consultation at a company in Harley Street, I felt more comfortable having my eyes checked by Moorfields. Since Moorfields specialises in eye surgery & research, I felt it would be the ideal place to place my vision & trust. I was recommended by several friends to see Mr. Julian Stevens. One friend in particular had recently had LASIK done by Mr. Stevens back in November with great results. I called Moorfields in Feb to book an appointment. With a reputation such as Mr. Stevens, it no wonder there is a waiting list. The earliest consultation was in June. They did various tests and confirmed my prescription was left eye is -8.00 (-6.00 -2.00 astigmatism), right eye is -8.25 ...  More...

I had Wavefront Lasik surgery done by Mr Gartry on 22nd July 2006 and given my experience with another clinic & my relatively high prescription I thought I would share my views here. Around 4 years ago I went to Laservision in Harley Street only to be turned away on the grounds of large pupils and a fluctuating prescription, they suggested I wait for the Wavefront technique to become fully established, so thats what I did. I was all booked in with Laservision again this time around only to be told a couple of weeks before that they had issues with their Medical License which worried me considerably so I switched to Moorfields and in particular Mr Gartry who came highly recommended (by frind ...  More...

Six days have elapsed since entering the laser treatment room at Moorfields, under the care of Mr Alex Ionides. Undeniably Moorfields' reputation precedes itself and from initial consultation to post operative care it is difficult to recommend enough Mr Ionides. Notwithstanding a prescription of -7.37 and -8.12 with high astigmatism in both eyes, the lasik treatment went very well. From the moment you enter the laser treatment room, the nursing staff are exceptional in the care and attention you receive. Mr Ionides guides you through the operation, step by step, taking great care to remove mental discomfort as physical discomfort is very minor. I could see extremely well in the right ...  More...

My Mother has been treated a number of times by Alex Ionides at Moorfields, and we have been left in such awe at the way he has treated us all. He always talked us through the procedures, and the nurses and other staff were equally brilliant. The rather frightening experiences of being poked and prodded in the eyes - and watching these as a bystander - was made infinitely easier by everyone at Moorfields. We'd have to single Alex out for his exceptional skill, gentle manner and flexibility - he went abroad on vacation and said we could contact him whenever we wanted to! How many doctors do you know who would do that just to put their patients at ease? It is because of people like Alex th ...  More...

Moorfields was an obvious choice for me as it is one of the top eye hospitals in Europe and I felt it would be useful if there were any complications. My consultation was £90 and I went to Julian Stevens as I had heard good things from a colleague at work, also my father is good friends with a eye surgeon from there who confirmed that Julian is a top-drawer surgeon (he also said there were some real cowboys at the hospital, so beware!). Julian is very likeable (I suppose I would be too if I was pulling in 2k for 10 mins work!) and is clearly very competent. He also works as a consultant to one of the equipment companies so is presumably at the cutting edge of research in this area. My pr ...  More...

I had wavefront surgery in October 2005 carried out by Mr Gartry and I have to say it was worth every penny. The surgery itself only took about 10 minutes and was quite a weird experience but not painful in any way. I could see really well even before I got back to the waiting room and my eyesight continued to improve over the next few days. I experienced some blurriness first thing in the mornings, a bit like when your contact lens is greasy, but it always sorted itself out by midday. I had been diagnosed with dry eyes even before surgery and I found that a few eye drops helped immensely. After three months I had no blurring at all or any other problems. The freedom from contact lenses i ...  More...

It's now 4 days since I had Wavefront LASIK surgery with Mr Gartry and I am delighted with the results. I am now able to see perfectly and my vision is better than it ever was with glasses / contact lenses (my prescription was -4.5 and -5). I found this site very useful in the run-up to my surgery so I thought i'd pass on my experiences... I was recommended Moorfields and Mr Gartry by 5 people that I work with and having done some research of my own it seemed like a good choice. And it was. The procedure was very quick and pain-free. Just woke up for the first time with good eyesight. I had my procedure done yesterday by Alex Ionides. First though I had the best eye test I've ever had despite wearing specs/contacts for 40 years. My eyes were very weak (-8.5)with astigmatism and to add insult to injury I suffer from blepharitis (which is partly why I took the plunge). Mr Ionides is one of the nicest people I have ever met and before the procedure I emailed him with loads of questions all of which he amswered in a hugely confidence-inspiring way.
