It is now nearly one month since Mr Maurino performed small incision cataract surgery on both my eyes at Moorfields eye hospital. The reception at Moorfields was immaculate, very friendly and most efficient. The first operation was over in minutes, painless and I could see straightaway afterwards. Although I was in some trepidation prior to the first operation, I was positively looking forward to the next one a week later. To put the degree of discomfort into perspective, the worst bit has been putting the anti-inflammatory drops into my eyes for the past four weeks as they sting quite a lot. Well, that's not much to complain about when you consider that I can scuba dive, ski, ride my motorbike and lots of other things without ever having to bother with glasses or contact lenses ever again - not even for reading!Vincenzo Maurino is a very nice man and very good at his job - and I can assure you, the reader, that I am not related to him. Thank you Vincenzo, I hope you will help many more patients over the years and for many more years to come.

I had lasek and lasik treatments done 3 months ago.
I am really happy for the outcome of the treatment.

Mr Maurino and his team are simply great, professionals and friendly at the same time, everything was explained clearly and I’ve never felt push to go ahead with it.

My previous prescription was very high -8 myopia with 4.25 astigmatism on the left eye and -5 myopia with 3.75 of astigmatism on right eye, now right eye is pretty much perfect, and the left one is left with only 0.75 of astigmatism, which no one would except such a great result as it came out.
After 3 months I do not need anymore refreshing drops.

Price wise I would say extremely worth the money paid for, considering that for some clinics the more your prescription is high the more will charge you (my estimate price with Optical Express was 400 pounds more expensive).
Secondly why save few hundreds pounds when you can get the best quality at very good, honest and reasonable price?

Many thanks again

Davide

I have always had poor eyesight, but put off having surgery for many years because I wasn’t convinced it was safe. Four weeks ago I finally decided to take the plunge and have Refractive Surgery. But if I was going to have it done, it would have to be performed at Moorfields by Mr Maurino. That was probably the best decision I have ever made. I now have perfect vision.

Just recently had my 3 month post-op visit with Mr Maurino, the results are excellent (and were this way just 24 hours after my LASIK procedure). If you are having doubts about going ahead with this, choose Mr Maurino and his team for some exceptional service.

At my initial consultation meeting, I had every single aspect of the surgery explained; being a surgeon in training meant I probably had more questions than the usual patient, although Mr Maurino was transparent and extremely thorough at explaining all the benefits and possible complications of the the procedure. I was also given his personal mobile number and asked to contact him directly should I have any other concerns prior to going ahead.

The procedure itself was painless & took under 10 minutes. The next morning, I woke up able to see; at my first visit I already had 20/20 vision. Within 48 hours I was back at work on a night shift.

The first month is only slightly tedious due to the regular eye drops you need to keep applying, though this is actually a very small price to pay given the massive benefits gained.

Three months on, I’m extremely pleased and after over 15 year of spectacle wear, I still cannot believe that such a relatively straightforward and pain free procedure has eliminated the need for my glasses.

With regards to cost, you’re paying for a top notch surgeon in a world-renowned centre so all is well worth it!

Very nervous before the cataract operation but the anticipation was much worse than actual op. where I felt nothing during the whole procedure. I was sedated but awake enough to see marvellous lights and colours throughout the op!
Left eye (where the cataract was worse) was done first. Had a toric lens inserted to correct astigmatism. Procedure was laser-assisted cataract surgery (what I believe is called femto-phako)
Within 24 hours of the op, and with a contact lens in my un-operated eye, I was at a party. 36 hours later I was on Hampstead Heath enjoying clear vision and great views!
One week later I was back at Moorfields for the second eye. Had opted for blended mono vision as I seemed to cope well with this as a contact lens wearer before cataracts. So, one eye has perfect distance vision and the other is slightly short sighted which means I can see both distance and near without using glasses. Only very occasionally do I use +1 reading glasses for small print.

So results seem to be exactly as predicted and after wearing contacts or glasses since I was 11 years old I now need neither. Thank you Mr Maurino and your team at Moorfields!

From the first email through to my last check up, everything has been so easy and all the people are very helpful and friendly.

I had my first assessment/check up back in April 2013 you go through lots of tests including the basic eye test and then more intricate tests – none of which are painful, mostly just looking through lenses/lights, it just helps to work out which type of surgery would work best for you and to find out more information on your eye type/shape etc. After much discussion with Mr Maurino – who was so kind and friendly and very happy to explain all types of processes simply for me! We decided on LASEK rather than the LASIK which most people op for. I then booked my laser surgery in for August 2013.

I got all the information I needed sent through on email, including details on all the eye drops I would be taking, what to expect on the day, after-care advice and even transportation/map advice, it was greatly appreciated and made me feel at ease and organised.

On the day of the surgery I was a bit nervous but not overly, they numb your eyes with drops before you go in and I had some extra put in when laying waiting for surgery but you dont feel a thing and it is all over in about 10 mins. Afterwards my eyes watered for a good 2 days – this is perfectly normal and different people experience different reactions. The only nuisance was having to put in all the different drops daily which start at 1 every 15 mins on the first day, finally going to 3/4 times a day for about a month. Luckily I had my parents look after me for the first week which I took off work! The second day was quite painful but not like anything I had experienced before, I had swollen eyes/puffy eyes and could barely open them, I took painkiller eye drops and oral painkillers to help me sleep. I even text Mr Maurino direct as he gives everyone his own mobile number for emergencies and he told me what I was experiencing was totally normal and then I scheduled my next check up with him for a few days later. After the first few days it totally eased and by the time I went to my check up 4 days later there was no more pain and I was told they had healed perfectly, I just found bright light hard to deal with and wore sunglasses for a further few days. After a couple of weeks I started to see the results and by the end of the month it was amazing! I had a check up last month and I now have perfect vision and it has all healed perfectly, no more glasses or prescriptions for me! It has now been nearly 6 months since I had the procedure and I can say it is the best thing I have ever done! Yes a lot of people say it is expensive but when you add up the price of glasses/contacts for the rest of your life is most definitely worth it. Also for me personally, I felt like having something as serious as this done I had to go to the best and in my opinion this is Moorfields and I would recommend Mr Maurino to everyone!

Excellent service from Mr Maurino and his team, would definitely recommend to anyone.

Worth the money as I felt in safe hands throughout, with exceptional communication and aftercare

02 Jul 2014

Very hard to fault and I am extremely happy with the results of the surgery. One of the few things these days where you can say the money was well spent.

Everything went exactly according to plan, and most importantly expectations and how things would go were explained in a realistic manner (and happened that way!).

Wouldn’t hesitate to reccomend a family member or friend to Dr Maurino.

02 Jul 2014

The surgery was well explained and Mr. Maurino was always available to discuss any queries both before and after the operation. The procedure itself is far less stressful than you imagine as is any discomfort you may feel afterwards.
