Mr Kazakos is a board certified, fellowship trained corneal eye surgeon who has undergone additional specialist training in laser refractive surgery and is in private practice including Optical Express. He is an active member of various affiliated bodies and societies such as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Mr. Kazakos attends International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) conferences and is annually assessed by this board. The panel consists of several of the world’s most eminent refractive surgeons including Mr. Steve Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy, and Dr. Jan Venter, a world leading ophthalmic surgeon.
Mr Kazakos graduated from the prestigious Marmara University of Istanbul, Turkey in 1997. His ophthalmic residence was at the Oxford Eye Hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, Essex County Hospital, Ipswich General Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital and Southampton Eye Unit for a Fellowship in Corneal and External Eye Diseases. He then returned to his native Greece where he completed his higher surgical training and received a Refractive Fellowship in the University of Crete with Prof. Pallikaris, the inventor of LASIK. Additionally, he has attended mini-fellowships in Refractive Surgery with some of the world’s most distinguished ophthalmologists including Prof. Richard Forster (Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida, USA) and Prof. Theo Seiler (Institut für Refraktive und Ophtalmologische Chirurgie, Zurich, Switzerland).
His dedication to his profession and patients is evident from his clinical experience, patients’ feedback, involvement with research and continued attendance at seminars and conferences as both speaker and delegate.

I have worn glasses for 42 years – from the age of 4 until last week!!! Yes, last week my life changed forever because I had Intra Ocular Lens vision correction performed by Dimitri Kazakos at Optical Express, Cabot Circus, Bristol, most people go to Cabot Circus to buy clothes but I went to get better vision and that was exactly what I got! I was long sighted and my prescription was +5.25 right eye and +3.25 left eye. My whole experience from my first consultation was very professional, informative and reassuring. I had my first consulation at the end of July 09, I then had a consultation with Dimitri at the end of August to go through the procedures. I had surgery on my right eye on 22/10/09 and my left eye the following week. I was really nervous and afraid leading up to the 1st surgery date but I just kept thinking how it would change my life. On the day of surgery everything went so well and I was treated so well that I wasn’t nervous at all when I had my left eye done. All the staff that I had contact with throughout the consultations and surgery made me feel at ease. It’s amazing not to wear glasses or contact lens anymore and to know I will not get cataracts, I don’t think it’s really sunk in fully yet. I had Lasik, Wavefront, IntraLase on the 28/10/09. My prescription was -1.50. Mr Kazakos (call me Dimitri) was fabulous. It seems rather an over the top statement but he has changed my life. He was reassuring and friendly. I drove home less than 24 hours later, after the following day check, with better eye sight than with my lenses! I understand that my eyes will settle over the next few months but I can’t praise Dimitri and all at Optical express enough. Thank you.
I had my surgery in September and i believe it was like a miracle come true. I have worn glasses for 40 yrs and my eyes were long sighted (+9 approx), i am now +0.25 in my left eye and -0.50 in my right eye. This is amazing and i can’t believe how much my life has changed. Mr Kazakos was fantastic, he was honest with me from the start, saying i was a challenge. I trusted him completely. I was a little nervous having the first eye operation but soon relaxed as the whole team were lovely. The after care has been brilliant and the most amazing experience throughout was when i first took my patch off and i could actually see. Wow is how i described this. Had lasik surgery a fortnight ago at Optical Express in Cheltenham. Previously was very short sighted (poorer eye -5.25). Whole team were superb, very pleasant, took time to answer any questions. Surgeon was efficient, explained procedure well, whole process very calm and reassuring and no pain, just weird. Eyes tired and gritty immediately afterwards, but now I can hardly remember what it was like before surgery! Would highly recommend, vision great, including at night, and as I was a contact lens wearer before, find it so refreshing to be able to see without. Do however, expect to feel tired and eyes a bit gritty for a few days.
