Mr Kazakos is a board certified, fellowship trained corneal eye surgeon who has undergone additional specialist training in laser refractive surgery and is in private practice including Optical Express. He is an active member of various affiliated bodies and societies such as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Mr. Kazakos attends International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) conferences and is annually assessed by this board. The panel consists of several of the world’s most eminent refractive surgeons including Mr. Steve Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy, and Dr. Jan Venter, a world leading ophthalmic surgeon.
Mr Kazakos graduated from the prestigious Marmara University of Istanbul, Turkey in 1997. His ophthalmic residence was at the Oxford Eye Hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, Essex County Hospital, Ipswich General Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital and Southampton Eye Unit for a Fellowship in Corneal and External Eye Diseases. He then returned to his native Greece where he completed his higher surgical training and received a Refractive Fellowship in the University of Crete with Prof. Pallikaris, the inventor of LASIK. Additionally, he has attended mini-fellowships in Refractive Surgery with some of the world’s most distinguished ophthalmologists including Prof. Richard Forster (Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida, USA) and Prof. Theo Seiler (Institut für Refraktive und Ophtalmologische Chirurgie, Zurich, Switzerland).
His dedication to his profession and patients is evident from his clinical experience, patients’ feedback, involvement with research and continued attendance at seminars and conferences as both speaker and delegate.

I had the replacement lens procedures carried out in March this year and it has been a great experience. I knew nothing of the procedure before looking into laser correction, which turned out to be unsuitable for me. The information was very clear but the best part was being able to meet Mr Kazakos before proceeding and have him explain the details.
He took great care to make sure I was fully aware of what the procedure was and likely outcomes and to be realistic in my expectations.

I am 87 and would have had this procedure many years ago if I could have afforded it. At the age of 13, I was diagnosed with astigmatisms and sentenced to wearing glasses for the rest of my life. My father’s experience had been similar but my younger sister and brother went free of glasses until late middle age. I could play rugby without glasses but not cricket, a big handicap in Toronto, where in summer the sweat rolls down your face, steaming up your glasses, just sitting still! And in winter, cross-country (nordic) skiing meant that my breath froze on the lenses.
At about 55, I became bi-focal, and about five years ago cataracts were diagnosed. They have not developed as quickly as I had feared but the almost certain need for their removal in the future became evident. Having regard to the problems experienced by the NHS with regard to waiting times, and stories about deferral until sight had deteriorated to a completely unacceptable level, I thought more about “going private”. There was the additional thought that It would be preferable to have an operation while I was in good health, and not on any medication, rather than wait until I had possibly been overtaken by some chronic ailment. The financial commitment was a strain on my savings but when I learned that my desire to throw away my glasses could be achieved, it was an immediate visit to Optical Express and Dimitri Kozakos.
I don’t know how many times I bought new specs during the 74 years I wore them, but it must have been 20-25. Bi-focals increased their cost. I just got used to wearing them.
As I write this it is exactly four weeks since both eyes were treated and I am completely satisfied with the results. I have thrown away my accumulated collection of bi-focal specs, being able, from the day after the second eye was treated, to read fine print and to drive in daylight. I have today ordered anti-reflective spectacles with the Zeiss DriveSafe lenses.
When we met the conversation was mainly concerned with the condition of my corneas and the possibility that I might still need reading glasses. This thought was not attractive – I was passionate about discarding glasses, but after only a day’s consideration and the possibility that corneas could be treated if necessary, I made the big decision. The two eyes were treated on consecutive days, with absolutely no pain or even sensation of what was happening. All over in about 20 minutes or less.
Throughout this experience, I have been most impressed with the efficiency of Dr Kazakos and his team The aftercare routine of applying drops is simple to follow and I have not experienced any adverse reactions. A completely painless experience. Remarkable!

After a number of years of wearing contact lenses / glasses both of which were hit and miss on how comfortable they were I saw an advert for Optical Express and decided to make contact with them. I made an appointment to visit their Southampton premises where they discussed my options in great detail. They were very helpful and answered the many questions I had. Although a huge decision, I decided to go ahead with the procedure and arranged the various appointments.
I had my pre op on the 25th August 2016 at the Westfield Centre, Shepherds Bush where I went through various tests and this was followed by meeting the surgeon Dimitri Kasakos who explained things very thoroughly, which put my mind at rest.
I had my Natural Lens Replacement on the 8th & 9th September 2016 at 7.30am which involved pre op preparation and then into surgery. Although a little nervous I can now say there was nothing to worry about, everything was so professional and seamless. I had no discomfort whatsoever with either eye and could not believe how quick it was to complete the procedure. Before I knew it I was sitting down having a cup of tea and biscuits!
I have had no discomfort since having the NLR and cannot believe the fantastic difference this has made to my eyesight. I still cannot believe the instant results. I now have 20/20 vision and can read everything on the eye test chart with ease. Almost 2 weeks since the operation I am still smiling as to how well I can see and most of all no contact lenses or glasses to fiddle around with!

As a 60 year old, recently retired male, my reason for choosing LRS was to do away with the need to wear reading/middle distance glasses which was impacting on my hobbies of photography and scuba diving.
Whilst having had both good long and near distance vision up until I reached my mid-forties, for the last 15 years I had been wearing varifocal glasses to correct a slowly worsening ability in my reading/middle distance vision. With my prescription reaching +2.75 in both eyes this was now affecting my hobbies to the point where I was no longer achieving an acceptable level of satisfaction. This, combined with the inability to read a newspaper, read and send text messages on my mobile phone and see the Tube Map when travelling on the underground without resorting to using glasses, was becoming beyond annoying.
The consultation I had with Dimitri prior to deciding to go ahead with surgery was very thorough and he certainly put my mind at rest. It was certainly not a rushed discussion and I was afforded all the time I needed to ask questions and consider my ultimate decision. As other reviews have mentioned, Dimitri is a very straight talking person. He explained both the good and bad aspects of LRS in general and of the specific lens type I was thinking of having. He certainly left me in no doubt about the expected outcome of the surgery which was very important in enabling me to make such an important decision. My original thoughts were to opt for a multifocal type of lens in order to have the “no glasses” result I was looking for. Dimitri agreed that this choice would probably suit my needs but still took great pains to explain the minor, but important to understand, drawbacks of a multifocal lens as compared to a fixed focal lens. He explained the different types of multifocal lens and the benefits and drawbacks of each. He clearly and confidently answered all of my questions, enabling me to decide that a 70/30 lens would be the best option for me in both eyes but at no time did I ever feel pressurised into saying yes to the surgery.
The surgery itself was painless and completed as an outpatient.
The operations on both eyes were carried out 24 hours apart.
Within 6 hours of each operation I was able to see quite well and within 3 days of the first operation I was already enjoying the ability to read quite clearly without glasses. My sight gradually improved during the following 2 to 3 weeks and now, some 5 weeks after the operations, I have better than 20/20 eyesight for driving, reading and all my hobbies.
During my consultation, Dimitri advised me about certain issues such as glare, ghosting or halos around lights which can occur with a multifocal lens and the conditions under which these effects may present themselves. Of these issues I have had no problems at all with glare. With regard to ghosting I do experience a loss of crispness with lettering whilst reading in some low light conditions but I can still read under these conditions. This is fully in line with what I was told to expect by Dimitri, does not cause me any significant problems and I feel that this effect is becoming less as time goes by.
The third effect of halos around lights is something that I do notice at night. When walking or driving, some streetlights and car headlights do seem to have small halos around them and this seems to be worse with LED lights than with other sorts. However, whilst these are certainly noticeable, they do not cause me any issues with driving and are not so intrusive as to be an issue. As with the ghosting effect, I feel that the impact of the halos is decreasing with time.
In summary, I believe the results of my LRS are completely in line with what was described by Dimitri and I am very happy with the results.

Can’t quite put into words how amazing this whole experience has been, from the consultation to the end result.
I never thought it was possible for me to have this surgery as I have many other eye problems. Dimitri put my mind at rest from the moment I met him. I have Ocular rosacea, dry eye and Sjogrens (before my surgery a prescription of -10 in both eyes). I have been short sighted since age 13. Wearing very thick lenses. I am 50 yrs old.
I had the multifocal Technics symphony lens fitted. I had my second eye test earlier today at Optical Express, white city. I was told I now have 20/20 vision. Before this I could not see any letters including the largest on the eye test and now see every line even the smallest line of all. Also I can read small print better than was expected. This has been life changing for me, something I never would have dreamed possible.
I was also surprised by the fact I had no discomfort whatsoever during any stage of the surgery or after. I can’t thank you enough for making this possible for me Mr Kazakos, something I will never take for granted. Also my husband had the surgery three weeks ago and is also just as over the moon as I am with his new sight. A fantastic surgeon.
