How to choose a Belfast clinic
- Check the surgeon Ask who will operate, and check they're on the GMC's specialist register for ophthalmology.
- Check the clinic Clinics in Northern Ireland must be registered with the RQIA. It inspects them but doesn't rate them, so read the latest report and check when it was.
- Ask for every cost Consultation, treatment, aftercare, eye drops and a second treatment if you need one.
- Take your time The Royal College of Ophthalmologists recommends at least a week between consultation and surgery.

It doesn’t say which laser technique its standard treatment uses. Its laser consultation is free, but it charges if you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice.
