Mr Kazakos is a board certified, fellowship trained corneal eye surgeon who has undergone additional specialist training in laser refractive surgery and is in private practice including Optical Express. He is an active member of various affiliated bodies and societies such as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Mr. Kazakos attends International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) conferences and is annually assessed by this board. The panel consists of several of the world’s most eminent refractive surgeons including Mr. Steve Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy, and Dr. Jan Venter, a world leading ophthalmic surgeon.

Mr Kazakos graduated from the prestigious Marmara University of Istanbul, Turkey in 1997. His ophthalmic residence was at the Oxford Eye Hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, Essex County Hospital, Ipswich General Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital and Southampton Eye Unit for a Fellowship in Corneal and External Eye Diseases. He then returned to his native Greece where he completed his higher surgical training and received a Refractive Fellowship in the University of Crete with Prof. Pallikaris, the inventor of LASIK. Additionally, he has attended mini-fellowships in Refractive Surgery with some of the world’s most distinguished ophthalmologists including Prof. Richard Forster (Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida, USA) and Prof. Theo Seiler (Institut für Refraktive und Ophtalmologische Chirurgie, Zurich, Switzerland).

His dedication to his profession and patients is evident from his clinical experience, patients’ feedback, involvement with research and continued attendance at seminars and conferences as both speaker and delegate.

    I am age 71 and have worn glasses and lenses for about 20 years. For about 16 of these years I have had one lense for distance and the other eye for reading. Latterly I have found my vision worsened having difficulty with reading small print and seeing to drive at night. My vision has become 20/20 within 1 day of second eye surgery . I was amazed by how pain free and straight forward the surgery was. The Consultant explained everything before during and after the surgery. I wish I had had the surgery years ago

    I had wanted to get laser eye surgery for years but was told that I was unsuitable due to my thin cornea. This crushed me as I really wanted to be free from glasses and contact lenses.
    I had been wearing glasses before I was even 10 years old. Over the years I had become intolerable to contact lenses and I felt like I was restricted from certain activities and glasses also affected my confidence. For example when i went to the gym i would have to wear contacts because i wouldn’t want glasses sliding from my nose or when out on a night out I couldn’t wait to come home to take my contact lenses off because they were so uncomfortable.

    I was initially told that I was found suitable for eye surgery however, during my meet with the surgeon I was told that my cornea was too thin and it I was then told about the option of having ICL and initially I was very skeptical because I had no prior knowledge of the procedure and I thought it was complicated. It was a rollercoaster of emotions for me but i was persuaded to meet with Dimitri about the ICL option, and I am glad I did.

    By the time I met Dimitri I had done some research but still had some questions I wanted to ask and Dimitri was able to address all of them. Dimitri was able to confirm that it is actually a simple routine procedure that is safe is most circumstances and that he would be confident and happy to carry out the procedure on my eyes.
    Dimitri was able to answer all my questions and concerns. He was very confident that this would be a safe option for me and I also felt confident that he knew what he was doing. Although I didn’t trust optical express as a company, after doing research and after my consultation I trusted Dimitri himself and believed I would be in safe hands. I didn’t feel like he was trying to do a sales pitch at all. He was able to explain what would happen and educate me.
    I also really appreciated the fact that he was very approachable and was able to communicate with me even after my consultation. He responded to my emails and even on the night (quite late) before my surgery when I had a few questions to ask (out of fear and nerves) he was able to respond to me.

    Apart from the initial checks and prep for the procedure, the actual procedure took less than 10mins and Just a few hours after the procedure I could see from each eye. The procedure was not painful at all! there is just come discomfort after but this goes away as the eye heals.
    Before the surgery my prescription was -6.50 on my left eye and -5.50 on my right eye. I had the 2nd eye done the day after the 1st one and by the 3rd day, had driving standard as well as around 20/20 vision.
    So in a way I am glad that I was found unsuitable for laser eye surgery because I feel like in my case and with my prescription this option has more/ certain advantages that the laser.

    And thanks soo much to Dimitri for his friendly and caring yet professional approach otherwise i wouldn’t have gone ahead with the procedure! I had the procedure done about a month ago now and I am still waking up everyday happy that i don’t have to look for my glasses straight away!

    After initially enquiring about laser eye surgery and found this was not a suitable option for myself decided to go for lens replacement. I did not read too much about the procedure – but I need not have worried. Everyone at the clinic were very helpful and nice. I was so relaxed that during my first eye procedure I actually fell asleep! Dimitri expressed that the procedure does not always meet our expectations! But I was amazed at the results – I no longer need my glasses! I am thrilled with the results! Thank you so much!

    I was treated in October 2016 by Dr. Dimitri. I had the first eye done on the Tuesday and the second the day after. By Tuesday evening I could just see thru a small gap in my bandaging and was astonished at how clearly I could see. This operation is truly life changing. I felt nothing at all during the procedure and if anyone is thinking of having the procedure you really won’t regret it. I am 52 and my eyesight now could hardly be better, I need no glasses at all. I had my 3 month check yesterday and my vision is better than 20-20. I’ve only just done this review because I’ve been waiting for headlight glare to stop, meaning night time driving oncoming headlights were extremely bright. This took 3 months to be comfortable and there is no more glare when I’m driving. Thanks to all the staff at Shepherds Bush for making us all comfortable on the day.

    I met Dimitri Kazakos September 2015 after recommendation from a relative.
    My vision and ability to read without glasses was deteriorating but my distance was good so to have to search for glasses in my bag when home or shopping to read labels etc was irritating.
    I was impressed with the eye checks and information given to me on the morning of the first eye procedure. Mr Kazakos saw me just before the surgery and was very clear in explaining expectations and outcome of lens replacement. The procedure was very comfortable and the recovery was without discomfort.
    I started to get changes in right eye towards the end of the first year and returned to my local Optical Express for checks. After several visits was not happy with the opinion there and went to the Harley St Optical Express with the outcome resulting in a small laser treatment on the left eye to make a small opening in the capsule but was told I could not have the same on the right eye due to risk of damage at the back of the eye (as I understood it) the result was a review with Mr Kazakos which I had on 19th Jan 2017.
    After a scan which I should have had pupils dilated and a few other tests I have a situation of Posterior Vitreous Detachment. This is a breakdown of the vitreous gel at the back of the eye and nothing related to the lens replacement. This explains the clouding and change in vision from the floaters where larger pieces are detaching and the flashes in the dark with change in light. I also have dry eyes and with residual ageing combined it is all contributing.
    I should have an improvement with a year or so with wearing a low prescription reader to help with close work. for a while so the eye is not strained.
    Mr Kazakos spent a lot of time reassuring me and explaining and explaining the scan result
    Despite a few blips I am delighted with the lens replacement outcome of not wearing glasses. I would totally recommend Dimitri Kazakos
