3. Ophthalmic Consultants of London
Today, Mr Angunawela sees patients exclusively at the Ophthalmic Consultants of London, which he recently founded along with two other renowned, UK trained eye surgeons: Mr Allon Barsam and Mr Ali Mearza.
What makes this eye clinic special? The Ophthalmic Consultants of London has practices in central London and Hertfordshire, and uses state-of-the-art technology to secure the desired results.
Is there anything I should know? It’s refreshing to see transparent laser eye surgery prices, and it’s rare for private eye clinics to offer interest free laser eye surgery finance options. However, it’s also worth noting the costs at the Ophthalmic Consultants of London are some of the highest in the industry.
4. Mr Romesh Angunawela Review: The Verdict
So, is Mr Angunawela the right eye surgeon for you? Of course, that all depends on whether you live in London, and how deep your pockets are.
Mr Angunawela features as one of the best laser eye surgeons in the UK, given his extensive experience (even in complex procedures) and thumbs up from customers. It’s also rare to find an ophthalmologist with more awards.
However, he is London based, and – as you would expect from his eye-dropping experience in vision correction – his prices are at the upper end, with even the initial consultation costing £250. If that price tag is giving you goose bumps, there are many other safe options in the UK.

Testimonials
Romesh is not only an amazing surgeon but also an extremely nice person. He makes you feel so at ease and takes such care in explaining everything and calling you personally after surgery. My eyes did not co operate at first but Romesh was so thorough and did not rest until he had found a solution.
His PA Sonia and Nat, his Optometrist are both super too, always so friendly and efficient.
As a printer my eyes are essential to my work, the results are fantastic. I have complete trust in him operating on my eyes.
My optician initially mentioned that I may have Keratoconus in one eye but told me not to worry about it. However, upon researching this condition in more detail and feeling my eyes deteriorate further, I searched for someone who knew what they were talking about, and in Mr Angunawela I found the best out there. He diagnosed me with Keratoconus in both eyes and said I need cross-linking to stop this progressing. He was clear, professional and friendly from start to finish and, thus far, the operation has been completely successful. I would recommend him over anyone for this type of operation.
I am 67 years old, and had very long sight +7.25, I have always wanted to have laser treatment but was told years ago that I could not, I therefore looked into the alternatives and had recently seen an article in a magazine about Moorfields. I carefully looked at what procedures were possible for me and found that I could have the clear lens extraction. I studied the consultants and finally settled for Romesh, I am so very very happy I did, in my words he is simply the best. He explained everything clearly to me. After the biometry test, it was found that I had very unusual eyes very short with odd curvatures, I was worried but I decided to go ahead. Both eyes were successfully operated on and I can now not only see in the distance to drive etc., but I can read small print. It seems like a miracle to me, as I have worn glasses virtually all my life. Romesh also gives good care after the operation so if you have any concerns he is there for you.
I was long sighted at +4.75 and previously wore extended wear contact lenses until I developed an intolerance to them. My optometrist recommended this procedure at Moorfields Eye Hospital and I am very pleased that I did. Mr Amgunawela examined my eyes and identified blocked tear ducts, which may have contributed towards my previous eye problems. He treated this before undertaking the surgery. The procedure was quick and painless and my vision is now better then it was previously wearing contact lenses or glasses. My eyes healed quickly and I am delighted with the results.
