Here are the main laser eye surgery procedures he performs:

  • Intra-LASIK or PRK (bladeless laser eye surgery)
  • LASEK (flapless laser eye surgery)
  • Cataract surgery (with toric and multifocal lenses)
  • ICL surgery (implantable contact lenses)

Given Mr Angunawela’s research focus into new laser eye surgery techniques, and as an experienced eye surgeon, he can also help with more complicated eye conditions, such as corneal transplantation, corneal collagen crosslinking, and Fuchs’ dystrophy.

Today, Mr Angunawela sees patients exclusively at the Ophthalmic Consultants of London, which he recently founded along with two other renowned, UK trained eye surgeons: Mr Allon Barsam and Mr Ali Mearza.

What makes this eye clinic special? The Ophthalmic Consultants of London has practices in central London and Hertfordshire, and uses state-of-the-art technology to secure the desired results.

Is there anything I should know? It’s refreshing to see transparent laser eye surgery prices, and it’s rare for private eye clinics to offer interest free laser eye surgery finance options. However, it’s also worth noting the costs at the Ophthalmic Consultants of London are some of the highest in the industry.

So, is Mr Angunawela the right eye surgeon for you? Of course, that all depends on whether you live in London, and how deep your pockets are.

Mr Angunawela features as one of the best laser eye surgeons in the UK, given his extensive experience (even in complex procedures) and thumbs up from customers. It’s also rare to find an ophthalmologist with more awards.

However, he is London based, and – as you would expect from his eye-dropping experience in vision correction – his prices are at the upper end, with even the initial consultation costing £250. If that price tag is giving you goose bumps, there are many other safe options in the UK.

Getting my short sightedness corrected by Romesh was an amazing experience. He talked me through my complicated history (family history of cataracts and detached retina, corneal scar from a previous infection, -5.5 short sight), steered me away from the more complicated (and expensive) treatment that I thought I needed and explained everything amazingly. 10 days after my initial appointment (it could have been 3 had I not been sick) I was having the surgery. I was in the hospital for 50 mins and on the table for 10 mins and the procedure was completely smooth. Romesh talked me through it all calmly so that I had no concerns and it was very smooth. The results were amazing, after 2 days of recovery when he took of the protective contact lens my vision was amazing and continued to improve over the next 1-2 months. A day of blurry vision and dry eyes and drops for 3 months are your only costs for perfect vision.
Romesh, is expensive, but that is because it is top-notch, first class treatment. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to other patients.

It feels great to be free of the need to wear glasses or contact lenses for the first time since childhood. Previously I was very short sighted. I considered laser eye surgery but was hesitant, I guess because you only have one set of eyes. That is why, when I did decide to get laser surgery I went to Moorfields – I wanted the best. I was not disappointed. My surgeon, Romesh Angunawela, has a reassuring presence as well as a wealth of experience and knowledge, in addition he really took the time to understand and address my concerns. He listened patiently and provided clear choices and explanations. My eyesight is now near perfect – I am confident that I won’t need any aftercare, but should I do so Romesh would always be my first choice.

Mr Angunawela carried out my LASEK surgery early in 2014 and I am absolutely delighted with the results – I don’t remember ever seeing as well as this before (previously myopic and astigmatic). The results of the surgery were exactly as planned.
The first stage of the process was to have an assessment consultation and tests. Information about the various types of surgery was provided in advance and the tests seemed very thorough. At this assessment I was found to have early stage Fuchs’ Dystrophy (a condition missed at routine eye tests), so I was advised to have LASEK surgery rather than the other procedures if I wanted to go ahead. There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and no pressure to take things further unless and until I wanted to do so.
The procedure was pain free with every step explained and excellent follow-up care (including an extra check when I had a minor problem with the bandage contact lenses that caused me some anxiety).
I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Angunawela as a knowledgeable, skilled and sympathetic surgeon. I am most grateful to him and his colleagues for their care and my vastly improved eyesight.

I underwent LASIK treatment at Moorfields Eye Hospital in March 2014. I was very pleased with Mr Angunawela’s care throughout the procedure: he was attentive, personable, reassuring and above all achieved great results for me.

When my optician confirmed in April that my blurred sight was due to cataracts he suggested I might see Mr Angunawela.
I am so glad that I was referred to this surgeon for Mr Angunawela made the whole process of undergoing cataract surgery in both eyes so easy and completely pain free and the result has been like a miracle to someone who has been short sighted for about 65 years and can now watch performances in the theatre, opera house or cinema without glasses. He was very professional but also very kind and patient and made sure that I was fully informed of the options and he was supported by staff who were equally reassuring.
I am so grateful to Mr Angunawela for his skill in transforming my life.
