Ultralase

The first Ultralase clinic was opened in January 1991 at the Clatterbridge Hospital near Chester. At the time, all treatments performed were Photorefractive Keratotomy, or PRK, until the Lasik procedure was introduced in 1995.

With the introduction of Lasik, and the clear advantages it demonstrated for certain patients, Ultralase went through a period of dramatic growth through 2002.

2003 Ultralase introduced the revolutionary UltraPlus treatment with Wavefront technology, giving patients visual outcomes far surpassing those of standard laser treatments. Ultralase became the first provider to have all treatment outcomes verified by independent audit.

In March 2009, the commitment to clinical excellence led Ultralase to become the first UK provider to have all Great Britain surgeons certified in Laser Refractive Surgery by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth).

Ultralase comes in second place in our list of the best laser eye surgery clinics in the UK for price, just after Optical Express. That’s because this clinic offers the full shebang: transparent prices, 0% finance options, free consultations, and competitive prices.

The cost of eye surgery at Ultralase ranges between £1,1695 and £2,995 (per eye), depending on the treatment type that you agree upon in discussion with a surgeon. These prices are in line with the average cost of eye surgery, but not quite as low as Optical Express.

You can count on Ultralase for the main laser eye and lens replacement surgery procedures. These include: LASIK and LASEK with Wavefront options, as well as refractive lens exchange (RLE), implantable contact lenses, and cataract surgery.

With nearly 3,000 overall positive reviews from independent customers in the UK, Ultralase is one of the best-rated laser eye surgery clinics by patients. People value this clinic for its:

  • Friendly prices – Fixed and reasonable prices help you know what to expect.
  • Nationwide clinics – Ultralase has 20 clinics in the UK, including in London, Reading and St Albans.
  • Decent aftercare – Ultralase provides free aftercare – one check-up and drops for the first three months.

Despite glowing reviews, however, it’s worth reading the fine print if you do choose Ultralase. In 2015, BBC’s Watchdog exposed the problems countless laser eye surgery patients have experienced accessing their lifelong aftercare.

Most user reviews on Lasik Eyes show happy experiences, but then again most people never need to take advantage of their lifetime guarantee. If you would like to find out whether Ultralase is the top-rated laser eye surgery clinic near you, we’re here to help.

I had treatment with Ultralase on the 18th August 2004 at Bristol with Mr Paul Cherry. I had Ultralasik on my right eye and Ultralasek on my left eye (I'm always the one who has to be “different”)!

I am so unbelievably happy with the results – my vision is now better than 20/20(I never thought it would improve to that standard from what it was), before, I couldn't even see the board at the opticians – let alone anything on it, and now I can see the 6/5 line – to anybody who is thinking of having it done – go for it(my right eye before was -5.50 and my left was -7.50).

Good luck to everyone.

Take care

I am in my sixties, and have worn monovision soft contact lenses very successfully for 12 years. I had considered laser eye surgery, but was deterred when my internet researches indicated that corrective surgery for short sight would leave me needing reading glasses, which I had been keen to avoid.

Fortunately, I revisited the topic this year, and obtained very clear and informative literature from Ultralase, which made me aware that I could actually maintain my monovision strategy by opting to have one eye under-treated. However, having carefully considered all the factors, amongst which was increasing difficulty with night driving, I elected to have Ultra Lasik-plus (wavefront) for optimum distance vision on both eyes, with the option of wearing a + 1.5 dioptre soft lens in my non-dominant eye for reading.

The staff at Ultralase were brilliant, and the results have been a revelation. Night driving is no longer a chore, and I still get a childish thrill when I get up in the morning and enjoy an unaided crystal-clear view of the distant hills. My contact lens practitioner is highly impressed by the results. He had great difficulty seeing the evidence of surgery, and tells me that my astigmatism (which I didn’t even know I had) has completely vanished. This supports my belief that Ultralase applies very searching standards in its selection of surgeons.

As the years go by, vision becomes a compromise for all but a very fortunate few, but I now enjoy a utopian situation. If I’m intending to spend much of the day reading or on the computer, then I pop a reading lens into my left eye and revert to monovision, but if I’m going out for the day or going to watch sport or go to the cinema, then I leave the lens out and put a pair of reading glasses in my pocket.

No ‘dry-eye’, no 'halo', no ‘star burst’, no misty vision. Just brilliant!

My vision is now better than 20/20! I only wish I had done it sooner. The
Ultralase service has been professional, friendly and genuinely caring. I recommend eye laser surgery to anyone who wants great vision without the inconvenience of wearing glasses.

It had considered laser eye treatment for some time, and now I’ve had it done, my only regret is not going ahead sooner. I had worn glasses for years, so having perfect vision now is an incredible feeling. Having said that, it is very important if you are considering treatment, to do your research and make sure you’re happy with the company you choose. I spent a lot of time looking into it, and found Ultralase’s website a great help. This convinced me to have a consultation, at which my expectations were consistantly exceeded. From the minute I walked in the door, I was treated kindly and considerately by all of the staff at the Leeds clinic. I was particularly impressed with the detail of examination, which gave me great confidence, and all of my (many) questions were answered honestly and concisely. At no point did I feel as thought I was being pressured into anything. They went to great lengths to give me all the facts, then let ME decide whether to go ahead. As it happened, it was an easy decision as the benefits massively outweighed any potential risk. On the treatment day itself I was naturally a little nervous, but everyone involved was very reassuring, and the personal service that I received went way beyond my expectations once again. The treatment was a bit of a non-event. It was over in no time, and I could tell the difference immediately. I can’t put into words what a difference this has all made to my day to day life. My greatest thanks go to Ultralase. I was constantly impressed with their level of expertise, and the caring, dedicated nature of the staff – nothing was ever too much trouble. I recommend them wholeheartedly.
