I went to an Ultralase clinic in Hammersmith two weeks ago for the initial consultation. After waiting 40 minutes, I was seen by the consultant and told that the delay was due to the failure of one of the test machines (don't panic, it is not the surgery machine).
After the consultation, I was told my eyes were suitable for the ultra wavefront lasik (the most expensive one). But I did feel let down to some extent because the consultant did not explain to me why other options were less suitable for me. Neither did he explain the way ultra wavefront lasik works, compared with other types of surgeries.
Two days later, I tried to contact the consultant to ask some more questions, but found out he was not based on this particular clinic, in other words, he worked in more than one place. Never mind, I did get his call back in two days. Last night, I sent an email to the clinic to ask two more questions, but had not received any reply up to this moment. I must say they do provide the service to certain standards, but not in the way I will trust wholeheartedly. On contrast, AccuVision called me this morning at 10am after I wrote them an email asking a few questions last night. This is what I would appreciate. Everyone has only a pair of eyes, and I really need somebody to look after them on high quality standards.
Excellent service from beginning to the end. I was nervous but everything was explained to me and the staff were always there for me. I can't believe the results – fantastic. : What can I say that hasn't already been said?? After much research on the internet, I chose Ultralase because they seemed to have many more positive reviews and also because they have an objective forum where patients can post their experiences (good or bad) which I found invaluable. Their consultation was extremely thorough and all risks were discussed frankly and without any attempt to gloss over the possibilities of complications. They sailed through all my researched questions with patience and good humour and at no time was there ANY pressure to “sign on the dotted line” so to speak. The overall impression was one of professionalism and that these people know what they're doing. The surgery itself was exactly as described and there were no nasty surprises following treatment (I had LASEK with wavefront) because it had all been thoroughly explained beforehand. I am now one month post treatment and absolutely delighted with the results and aftercare I have received. I cannot find a single fault with Ultralase. They're not the cheapest maybe but your eyes are priceless in my view and I would rather pay extra in return for the excellent staff and the most up to date equipment that Ultralase have clearly invested in.
