Ultralase

The first Ultralase clinic was opened in January 1991 at the Clatterbridge Hospital near Chester. At the time, all treatments performed were Photorefractive Keratotomy, or PRK, until the Lasik procedure was introduced in 1995.

With the introduction of Lasik, and the clear advantages it demonstrated for certain patients, Ultralase went through a period of dramatic growth through 2002.

2003 Ultralase introduced the revolutionary UltraPlus treatment with Wavefront technology, giving patients visual outcomes far surpassing those of standard laser treatments. Ultralase became the first provider to have all treatment outcomes verified by independent audit.

In March 2009, the commitment to clinical excellence led Ultralase to become the first UK provider to have all Great Britain surgeons certified in Laser Refractive Surgery by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth).

Ultralase comes in second place in our list of the best laser eye surgery clinics in the UK for price, just after Optical Express. That’s because this clinic offers the full shebang: transparent prices, 0% finance options, free consultations, and competitive prices.

The cost of eye surgery at Ultralase ranges between £1,1695 and £2,995 (per eye), depending on the treatment type that you agree upon in discussion with a surgeon. These prices are in line with the average cost of eye surgery, but not quite as low as Optical Express.

You can count on Ultralase for the main laser eye and lens replacement surgery procedures. These include: LASIK and LASEK with Wavefront options, as well as refractive lens exchange (RLE), implantable contact lenses, and cataract surgery.

With nearly 3,000 overall positive reviews from independent customers in the UK, Ultralase is one of the best-rated laser eye surgery clinics by patients. People value this clinic for its:

  • Friendly prices – Fixed and reasonable prices help you know what to expect.
  • Nationwide clinics – Ultralase has 20 clinics in the UK, including in London, Reading and St Albans.
  • Decent aftercare – Ultralase provides free aftercare – one check-up and drops for the first three months.

Despite glowing reviews, however, it’s worth reading the fine print if you do choose Ultralase. In 2015, BBC’s Watchdog exposed the problems countless laser eye surgery patients have experienced accessing their lifelong aftercare.

Most user reviews on Lasik Eyes show happy experiences, but then again most people never need to take advantage of their lifetime guarantee. If you would like to find out whether Ultralase is the top-rated laser eye surgery clinic near you, we’re here to help.

At the first consultation I was told that I needed LASEK treatment which would initially be more painful but with less chance of problems. When I decided to go ahead I was a bit worried in case any problems occured however all went well on the treatment day. No pain at all during treatment – when anasthetic wore of I didn't know where to put myself for a couple of hours. I slept for the rest of the day – next day FANTASTIC – no pain and brilliant vision.

At all times during the consultation and in the aftercare at Ultralase the standard of treatment has been consistently tremendous. Everyone treated questions as thought I was the first to ask – despite the fact that it was probably things that were asked every day. At every stage the standards were of the highest level. The results are brilliant and it makes such a difference to life – I do not have enough good things to say about it!

Well, I finally took the plunge and had the op. I had the assessment some time ago but then chickened out but this time I went through with it. I had the initial assessment at Tottenham Court Road with a very pleasant lady who answered all my questions in detail. Slightly concerned that the receptionists were wearing glasses, and hadn't had the op themselves, but I didnt let it put me off!

The surgery itself was performed at Hammersmith. Day after the bombings so understandably things were not running as smoothly as they might, but after a short delay i was in with the surgeon, a quick check, then away we went. If i have any adverse comment to make, it was that the surgeon himself was fairly business-like and not that chatty, but not unfriendly in any way. The nurses and receptionists were all great and reassuring.

The actual op itself was not uncomfortable at all, but a little weird when my vision went dark. However they talked me through it and let me know this was going to happen. Both eyes done in less than 5 minutes then back out to the waiting room to recover…

That evening my sigh was blurry and i had a few tears streaming but by the next morning I was a lot more comfortable! Today, 4 days on I have perfect vision and no discomfort at all. i am still putting the eye drops in cos i have to do this for a week, but am just amazed at the results. With my glasses I could only read 3 lines up from the bottom of the chart. Now bottom line is easy! I am so pleased I had this op done!

I guess a slight concern is that this op has not been being performed for over 15 years, so there are potential long term effects which we do not know about, but for now I'm going to enjoy life without specs or lenses!

For 44 years I have been as blind as a bat, without glasses. The Ultralase clinic has literally given me my sight back at the age of 54. I was terrified – the biggest coward around – friends couldn't believe that I put myself forward to have this treatment.

All staff were so helpful – all of my questions were answered honestly. I had a very high prescription buy Mr Cherry (the Surgeon) believed that he could help me – and he did. Treatment day found me a nervous wreck, but there was no need at all. I felt no pain whatsoever and could see the clock on the wall as soon as I sat up. Brilliant!!

I do need reasing glasses – but that's OK. Now I can wear lovely fashionable sun glasses , see in the pool and sea – and see in the dark. Speak to me and I will ramble on for hours. I HAVE NEW EYES – YIPPEE!!

Having worn glasses and contact lenses for over 20 years I cannot believe I have better than 20/20 vision. It has changed my life!! The aftercare is superb and everyone is very helpful.
