The first Ultralase clinic was opened in January 1991 at the Clatterbridge Hospital near Chester. At the time, all treatments performed were Photorefractive Keratotomy, or PRK, until the Lasik procedure was introduced in 1995.

The consultation was excellent, like an extended opticians appointment. Everything was explained, including pricing, but I felt no pressure to go through with it.
As everything was so professional, I wasn’t nervous about the treatment. my prescription was double checked and everything explained again. The prep nurse was very thorough and made sure I was happy.
The procedure was very quick with absolutely no pain. There was just a little discomfort when the pressure ring was put on my eye. The whole process was superb and 3 hours later I was sat at home watching TV.
I was a little light sensitive for about 24 hours, but sunglasses sorted that. I could have gone back to work 48 hours later if I’d not taken holidays!
