The first Ultralase clinic was opened in January 1991 at the Clatterbridge Hospital near Chester. At the time, all treatments performed were Photorefractive Keratotomy, or PRK, until the Lasik procedure was introduced in 1995.

I was reassured from my first consultation appointment to my final ‘sign off’ day by thoroughness and professionalism of all the staff I met. After wearing glasses from the age of 7 and lenses from 19, I’d been totally dependant on ‘optical aids’ for over ¾ of my life. Dr Gupta was my surgeon and he and his team put me at ease. I can honestly say it did not hurt at all, only a slight pressure for a few seconds at the beginning of each eyes treatment. After 30 minutes (both eyes) I sat up for the first time and could read the ‘fire exit’ sign unaided. We took a taxi back to waterloo and I could read the car number plates. After 2-hours I did experience some discomfort in both eyes as the anaesthetic drops wore off. However I had been warned about this and it only lasted for a few hours or so. I stuck strictly to the post op drop regime and after a number of follow up visits I am please that I now have 20:20 vision in both eyes (my astigmatism has totally gone from my right eye and is only very slight in my left eye) This really is like a new lease of life . As a photographer my eyesight is the most valuable to me. Thank you to Ultralase.
