I’m very happy with my laser treatment. There’s nothing to worry about – there’s no pain, and I would recommend it to anybody. The aftercare at Optical Express is also very good. I just wish i had done it years ago. – Philip Lavelle

Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Fun fact: Optical Express is the only vision correction provider to invest in the iFS150 intraLASE in each of its clinics – the same technology that led to NASA backing laser eye surgery for astronauts in 2007.

Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.

With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.

Optical Express has 128 clinics in the UK alone – far more than any other eye surgery provider. Its locations include London, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dublin, with many more situated in all corners of the country.

Laser Eye Surgery

Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).

In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.

Lens Replacement

Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.

An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:

  • Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
  • Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
  • YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.

Cataract Surgery

Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.

Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.

Aftercare

Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.

Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.

Safety Record

All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.

99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.

Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.

I was very nervous about going to Optical Express as they were noticeably cheaper then other practices, and I had a concern about only getting what I’d pay for. However after the initial consultation I was quite confident that the technology being used was extremely good.

I had a few issues with the customer service side of things, I was left waiting 45minutes for my initial consultation without warning, but when I did eventually see the team they were very good.

Once I had booked my surgery I was phoned a week before the surgery by the call centre and told it had to be moved by a rude person who wasn’t interested in how un-nerving this was, and only gave me an option I wasn’t happy with. Thankfully I still had a contact number for the branch I had attended my consultation, and phoned them and explained the situation and they were very apologetic and booked a different clinic for me.

I was then phoned 5 days before the surgery and told I had to get my GP to complete a form due to a present heart condition. A day before the surgery and the form still hadn’t arrived, and it actually didn’t until the day after the surgery. Amusingly it was never requested before the surgery, so just another hiccup I could have done without!

I went to Southampton Clinic on the day of the surgery (two days ago) and they were fantastic. It felt very professional, and the team were very friendly and put you at ease. I think if I had dealt with this clinic all the way through my experience would have been much better.

They explained the procedure well, and it was over so quickly, and was far less scary then I had built it up to be in my head. You don’t feel a thing during the surgery, but good painkillers afterwards are a must, along with a sleep. I had expected not to be able to see at all after the surgery but you can it’s just a bit hazy. After a sleep I woke up with really good vision, although still a little cloudy, by the following morning it was amazing, and having had my next day appointment I’ve already got better then 20/20 vision and it will carry on improving.

My prescription was -2.75 + -3.25 with astigmatism in one eye.

The best thing I’ve ever done. I was -5.50 and -5.75 so I was pretty blind and it still 5 weeks on hasn’t sunk in that I don’t need my lenses or glasses and that I can see perfect all the time. I am 40 and have been wearing glasses since the age of 8. Its taken me a while to get the courage to go for it but I am so glad I did. My surgeon was great. Mr Teenan and his staff just carry out the surgery with ease. It literally took about 10 mins top for both eyes. Its a lot of money for the time it took but the end result is worth it. I could have went somewhere else cheaper but I wanted someone recommended and I would only go to this surgeon as I had not heard one single bad one about him.

I had laser treatment on both eyes around 2 weeks ago. I was a little apprehensive prior to the procedure but the procedure itself was relatively quick and painless. I would recommend laser for anyone who finds wearing glasses/contact lenses a nuisance.

Good luck!

I must say that six month after my surgery at Optical Express, my vision is excellent. I have 6/4 vision, no glare or halos during the night, so in one word perfect.

I am very pleased with this vision correction method. Forget about spectacles and contact lenses and go for this surgery.

Hi, I have £150 money off teatment voucher if anyone is interested.
I had laser eye surgery in April 2011 in the optical express Belfast clinic. I was a bit aprehensive after the 1st few visits and was very unclear of the treatment and price but after extensive internet reading I decided to go ahead. I was extremly nervous on the day of surgery but as soon as I met with my surgeon I felt completly at ease and any nerves I had dissapeared. The surgery was quick and completly painless and the team chatted to me the whole time. When I was told it was all over I could’nd believe it. It has been money well spent and would definatly reccommend it to anyone. Please email me if interested in the voucher and I will give you more details.jacqueline.mcgilligan@sky.com
