London Eye Hospital Review: Laser Eye Surgery

With state-of-the-art facilities in Harley Street and Wimpole Street – right in the heart of London’s internationally-acclaimed medical district – the London Eye Hospital is a dedicated ophthalmic hospital treating all eye conditions and caring for patients from all around the world.

It claims to offer the very best in patient care, comfort and service and use the most advanced, proven techniques and technology – often unavailable elsewhere – to deliver freedom from glasses and contacts. Its comprehensive treatments also extend to retinal and plastic surgery. Plus, it tries hard to fully understand your condition and lifestyle before identifying a range of treatment options – and then helps you choose the best one for you.

The ophthalmic surgeons at the London Eye Hospital are some of the most experienced and highly qualified in their field. All new patients are allocated a UK-trained consultant chosen to match their specific needs – backed up at all times by a specialist nursing team.

And the cherry on top: the London Eye Hospital offers easy access by rail, road and air, which helps clear the way for stress-free surgery.

The Verdict

The London Eye Hospital makes it onto our list of the best laser eye surgery clinics in London, and enjoys a thumbs-up rating for the CQC.

But sadly, it comes in tenth place, since it doesn’t get the backing from thousands of happy customers that other leading clinics like Optical Express and Ultralase get for laser eye surgery treatment.

Dr Mark Wilkins is a very humble surgeon indeed. His ability is phenomenal and we need to celebrate this because he never will.

I had a huge prescription of minimum 5.5 in both eyes by the age of 46. This was not my only problem: I have what is commonly known as astigmatism and also a lazy left eye forever which was never corrected when I was a child.

Yet, his skilful calculations, methodical checks that he made on the laser with his wonderful team of pre and after care colleagues at Bath Street and Old Street have amazingly freed me of glasses on a daily basis. He has achieved for me something which I would never have been able to imagine.

When I came to his Old Street clinic for the first time he gave me such hope that my eyes might be corrected to an acceptable low prescription level with the potential miracle that I might reach 20:20 in the background. He made it clear that overcorrection might occur (which it did not!). I felt reassured anyhow, that placing myself in his hands I would be in the best place to achieve the optimum for me.

I will definitely send my current adolescent children to Dr Mark Wilkins when they decide that their eyes have settled down sufficiently to operate. Mark appreciates all walks of life – he is not just a fantastic eye surgeon but is also a great human being.
