Mr Kumar is the best. He was very kind and understanding. He was also very patient and answered all my questions, many times. I felt totally confident in Mr Kumar and all his team. The nursing staff were all very kind and helpful and I found the whole experience was made as easy for me as possible. I would also say Mr Kumar is an eye wizard. My eyesight was really poor. I can now see long distances and close up for reading without any glasses or lenses. He really is amazing and I could not recommend him highly enough.

From the very first moment i met Mr Kumar at a Lasik presentation evening he was very knowledgeable, professional, approachable and keen to answer any questions you throw at him. My vision is normally so bad that without lenses or contacts i am unable to even see the optical chart, this is my reasoning for having laser surgery.

My appointment for surgery was 10.45 am on 28 February 2009. Two hours before surgery i had taken paracetamol to ease the pain (this is advised by Dr Kumar). On arrival i was lead into a pre-op room where personal details were taken and was prepared for surgery, this involved covering of both ears and hair. Valium was offered however i declined……..worst mistake ever!! Would advise anyone to accept valium as nerves got the better of me and made the whole procedure much more uncomfortable, requiring nursing staff to calm and reassure me throughout. Anesthetic eye drops were applied to my right eye prior to procedure, my eye was then clamped open and laser commenced, this took approx 15 mins and would describe pain as mild. Then i had to undergo the same procedure again for my left eye which was not a nice thought! Straight after laser treatment i was left to recover in a dark room for 30 mins, eyes very sore at this point. Nurse then led me into pre-op room where i enjoyed pre-ordered lunch, sunglasses required from this point due to light sensitivity. 20 mins later Mr Kumar re-examined my eyes and i was free to go, along with 3 sets of drops which required 4 times a day applying for the next week. When i got home i took more painkillers and went to bed for a few hours (eye shields in place), eyes really sore for the next few hours but decreased in time.

Follow up appointment next morning and my vision tested, even though less than 24 hours post surgery i was able to read down to line 4 on the optical chart…….wot an improvement! Both eyes felt strained due to haziness and light sensitive requiring sunglasses at all times. Luckily i took the following week off and would highly recommend this as work was not an option duet to eye strain and vision clarity.

Now i am 6 days post surgery and my vision is better than ever and is improving on a daily basis, however my eyes are still tender and occasional double-vision. At this point i am still needing to rest my eyes midday for up to an hour as eyes feel strained, this does subside after resting. Next appointment in 2 weeks.

On reading other peoples reviews of Lasik surgery i found that in my case the healing process took a lot longer and i appeared to have more side-effects than the average person which worried me and made me wonder if i had made the right decision. Now looking back i should have been more patient and realised that the healing time varies in each case and perhaps prescription strength affects healing process. I am still unsure how i will manage at work next week but overall i would highly recommend Mr Kumar and Lasik surgery 100%.

*REMEMBER – BE PATIENT TIME IS A GREAT HEALER*

I had Lasik in August 2002 and it was the best thing I have ever done. The surgeon, Mr Kumar, was brilliant, as was the aftercare. My optician retested me recently and I have what he refers to as "fighter pilot" vision (I can read the smallest text on his test s. For 44 years prior to the surgery I was basically blind without my strong lensed glasses now it is perfect.

I decided to take the bull by the horns and go ahead with a consultation for laser eye surgery with Mr Kumar and I'm so glad I did. I had my surgery on a Saturday and within a couple of days I had perfect vision. It is so nice to be able to wake up at night and see the clock! Mr Kumar is an excellent consultant and surgeon and I thoroughly recommend him.

I have just had my first check after surgery yesterday and everything is amazing, I can now see better without my glasses than I could before with them. After about 25 years I am now without glasses for driving, watching television and my other visually distant requirements. From the moment I entered the Duchy Hospital I have received nothing but exemplary attention, Mr.Kumar and the staff are courteous, helpful and answering any questions I had, nothing seemed too much trouble. I am now looking forward to my new found freedom

I was desperate not to have to wear glasses anymore as I had struggled to comfortably wear lenses, but I am real scared-y-cat, so that last person in the world, you would imagine to take the plunge and go for surgery. Mr Kumar put me at ease and to be fair, it was difficult to walk away from an opportunity that more or less guaranteed an improvement to my vision. I was terrified on the day of the procedure, but the staff at the Duchy put me at ease. The procedure is so quick and pain free, it made me wonder what all the fuss was for.... I now have almost 20/20 vision and don't need to wear glasses for anything. Mr Kumar is amazingly talented and a lovely man to boot. He is at the end of the phone if you have any concerns which is really reassuring. I have a permanent grin from one ear to the other, I just wish I had done it sooner!!

I had thought about having laser treatment for a long time and looked at several websites. When I decided that I was definitely going to have it done I wanted to make sure that I knew exactly what was involved. Living in Cornwall I really didn't want to travel to Bristol and was very pleased to discover that the Duchy Hospital in Truro carried out LASIK treatment. From the moment I contacted the Duchy hospital I was very impressed with their eficiency and understanding. I was sent an information pack which advised me of exactly what was involved, the cost and who would be carrying out the surgery should I decide to go forward. I found it very reassuring that Mr Kumar would not only carry out the surgery but also see me from the initial consultation which was free. He carried out extensive tests and although not painful I found it difficult driving home in bright sunlight as my pupils were dilated, so if you go for the tests ask someone to drive you home. Mr Kumar put me at my ease straight away, there was no pressure to make an immediate decision. I had my consultation on the 15th September and booked to have the surgery on the 9th October. Upon confirming the date I was sent further information on what to expect before, during and after treatment. I was really excited at the prospect of not wearing glasses and took the painkillers as advised on the day but didn't need any vallium! I met the other patients waiting for their turn and all of us were impressed with Mr Kumars manner and knowledge he is totally approachable and not at all aloof or distant, he gave us all his home and mobile number to call if we had any queries or concerns. The staff in day surgery were lovely and whilst having the surgery there was a nurse to hold my hand if needed. Mr Kumar spoke throughout the procedure letting me know what he was doing, it didn't take long at all 10 - 15 minutes and I didn't feel any pain. Straight after surgery I sat in a darkened corner of the day ward for about 20 minutes and then sat with my sunglasses on for another 30 minutes. I would be lying if I didn't say that my eyes stung but Mr Kumar put in some drops that took the sting away. I then went into the consultation room and was amazed to find that I could read most of the chart! Mr Kumar gave me 3 types of drops and eye shields. I had my surgery at about 3.15pm and left the hospital at 5pm. My husband drove me home and I went to sleep for a while and then sat in dim light, I was advised not to watch television and enjoyed a quiet evening listening to the radio/music. At 9am the next morning I saw Mr Kumar and could read the bottom line on the chart, it was like magic! I saw Mr Kumar a week later and just use the liquid tears a couple of times a day. I am due to see him again in a couple of weeks. If you are thinking of having surgery, phone up get a pack and go along for a free consultation, you won't look back.
