1. Qualifications
After graduating from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1984 Mr Daya completed an internship at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
He then completed his training in the United States completing residencies at NY Downtown Hospital (1985 to 1988) and the Catholic Medical Centre at Cornell University (1988 to 1991). He went on to become the Director of Cornea and External Disease at the Catholic Medical Centre.
Today, Mr Daya serves on numerous committees, including:

- Cornea committees of both European and American Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS, ASCRS)
- International Council for UK on the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS)
- Refractive sub committee of the ESCRS and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists
- Board of Directors of the Cornea Society (USA)
2. Expertise

3. The Centre for Sight
The Centre For Sight was set up because Mr Daya was disgruntled with how many private eye care centres were run. He as on a mission to provide patients with world class medical care.
He built the Centre for Sight as a “Centre of Excellence” in refractive surgery, providing the utmost in preoperative and postoperative care and first class levels of training for other surgeons and nurses throughout the country.
The Centre for Sight was the UK’s first provider of Intralase, the femtosecond laser used for cutting flaps in Lasik rather than bladed keratomes. This increases the safety of Laser vision correction, and provides better outcomes, according to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCO).

So, is Mr Daya the right eye surgeon for you? Of course, that all depends on where you live, and what you’re looking for.
Mr Daya has been at the forefront of his profession for while. That said having his practice in East Grinstead means you might be suited to someone a little closer to you.

Further to an initial assessment, Mr Daya performed Wavefront IntraLASIK on both eyes approximately 8 months ago. I had worn glasses for short-sightedness since the age of 11 (twenty-five years) and was -6.00 in one eye and -5.50 in the other. I have just been back to the Centre for Sight for another follow up and now have 20/15 vision – even better than normal 20/20. It’s hard to explain how wonderful it is to be able to see; it really is a daily pleasure, and I now experience much less glare from the sun and during night driving than I did before the operation. I had researched and thought about laser treatment for years. I had an assessment at a high street chain a couple of years ago and was completely put off by their lack of explanation, care and professionalism, as well as the fact that the surgery seemed to be treated by staff as no more serious, and requiring no more consideration, and being of no more consequence, than a minor cosmetic procedure. The Centre for Sight is completely different – a proper medical environment in which you can meet and be assessed by the surgeon who will be operating on you, which is the best clinical practice. If you go for an assessment with Mr Daya you will no doubt recognise him instantly; he is ‘The Consultant’ – the besuited man standing in the middle of the corridor around whom all others move, and probably even the fabric of the building on particularly busy days. He is supremely confident, experienced and respected, and uses cutting edge (excuse the pun) technology. And, let’s face it, this is the sort of medical professional you want to operate on your eyes. The operation is not exactly pleasant, but only takes about twenty minutes or so overall. I would definitely go through it again for these results. Although results are relatively instant, I would advise anyone to expect their eyes to take time to fully recover, for vision to stabilise and to actually adjust to being able to see. Basically, I could not be happier with the results or recommend the Centre for Sight more highly. One of my children is already quite short-sighted and, if and when the times comes, I would trust the Centre for Sight to treat her too.

My vision after the Graft procedure at Centre for Sight is fantastic – even after the day of surgery, it was perfect. I was pleasantly surprised how it has changed as I have come along since the day of my initial graft.
I found Centre for Sight very good. I can’t see any fault at all and I have recommended it to other Keratoconus patients back at home in Dublin. I was referred to Centre for Sight by a surgeon in Dublin. There was no looking back after that!!!
The Corneal Grafting (Femtosecond Laser Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty) procedures have affected my life tremendously well and if it was not for Mr. Sheraz Daya and the staff, I would be in a complete mess. I feel I would have lost my eye sight for good.
He has transformed my sight completely. I suffered from Keratoconus and if I had not had the graft done on both eyes, I would have not been able to see at all.

I was referred to Centre for Sight by my friend who had his laser eye treatment with Mr. Sheraz Daya. I had my laser eye surgery because it was getting difficult with the deteriorating vision and would had to always wear glasses.
I eventually started wearing contact lens and obviously as I got older it was more difficult to get it out. I wore them since the time I was very young and it is difficult when it rains particularly as I was into a lot of sports especially golf. That’s why I decided to have the surgery.
Overall the experience is fantastic. I did have a problem when I first came because the lady I spoke to, whom I never seen since she was not able to provide me with details. However, I was given all the information and my questions were answered in due course. I was always been made welcomed and very well looked after when I have been here. My patient journey was very smooth from the time of enquiry till post-operative care other than that hick up. When I phoned up between having the operation and coming in for follow up, someone helped me with the query.
Everyone at Centre for Sight has been very kind and helpful. The receptionists are very welcoming, I feel nice and comfortable.
There is tea, coffee and biscuits for my husband and everyone is gentle, cheerful and charming. I have recommended Centre for Sight to my friends already. Thank you very much to Mr. Daya and everyone at Centre for Sight.

“I first came through Centre for Sight because my husband had been here before for his laser procedure 10 years ago, as well as his brother and his aunt. Although we live all the way up in North Yorkshire, we wanted to come here since we have had great experience in the past. We knew it would be a good place for us.Before I was not too short-sighted in terms of I didn’t have that much needed to be done. But it was going to make a big difference in terms of driving, etc.
My vision now – I cannot believe how I can see everything around me and the process has been quick. I had the consultation on Monday, surgery on Wednesday and the follow up on Thursday – so it was all been very quick.
My husband got his procedure done 10+ years ago exactly here – at Centre for Sight. It was interesting to hear his point of view because technology has advanced since he had his eyes done. At that time, he had some pain right after this procedure but for me it was nothing almost, a bit of headache and I am still getting used to my new vision.
Everything was really smooth. The staff are very helpful and lovely – very friendly, informative and answered by questions all along. There was a bit of discrepancy when I had seen one price online and the one quoted was different. But then I recognised that the prices I found online was much older pricing. Other than this everything was fine, my questions regarding that was handled quite professionally and it has been lovely.

“My father is an eye surgeon and when he found out I was short-sighted more than 10 years back, he took me to his colleague in Leeds. He investigated my eye sight and diagnosed me with Astigmatism. I was surprised to hear that was not prepared to work on it and correct my vision. He suggested Dr. Sheraz Daya so we took the train down south for my consultation in East Grinstead.Dr. Daya was very cooperative and ready to get my eye sorted. At the operation, it was very easy with the anaesthetic, but on that day of my laser surgery, I personally found the procedure quite painful and my eye was sore.
