Mr Kazakos is a board certified, fellowship trained corneal eye surgeon who has undergone additional specialist training in laser refractive surgery and is in private practice including Optical Express. He is an active member of various affiliated bodies and societies such as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. Mr. Kazakos attends International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) conferences and is annually assessed by this board. The panel consists of several of the world’s most eminent refractive surgeons including Mr. Steve Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy, and Dr. Jan Venter, a world leading ophthalmic surgeon.
Mr Kazakos graduated from the prestigious Marmara University of Istanbul, Turkey in 1997. His ophthalmic residence was at the Oxford Eye Hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, Essex County Hospital, Ipswich General Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital and Southampton Eye Unit for a Fellowship in Corneal and External Eye Diseases. He then returned to his native Greece where he completed his higher surgical training and received a Refractive Fellowship in the University of Crete with Prof. Pallikaris, the inventor of LASIK. Additionally, he has attended mini-fellowships in Refractive Surgery with some of the world’s most distinguished ophthalmologists including Prof. Richard Forster (Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida, USA) and Prof. Theo Seiler (Institut für Refraktive und Ophtalmologische Chirurgie, Zurich, Switzerland).
His dedication to his profession and patients is evident from his clinical experience, patients’ feedback, involvement with research and continued attendance at seminars and conferences as both speaker and delegate.

I had Lasik Wavefront Intralase surgery at Optical Express in Norwich on 11 August 2009 and was very impressed with the experience. My prescription was -5 in one eye and-1.25 in the other with astigmatism. Mr Kazakos was very professional and explained everything clearly before I had my treatment and explained what was going on during the treatment and afterwards. All of the staff at the clinic were also very helpful, professional and friendly. One month on I am very pleased with my vision and it has made a huge difference to me particularly because I do a lot of sport such as canoeing and cycling etc. The follow up at the clinic has been excellent. Thank you!

I had wavefront intralase surgery done in Belfast on Wed 26’th August 2009. Was a bit nervous and anxious on the day as my appointment time got closer but on arrival at the clinic I was made to feel at ease and assured there was nothing to worry about. Prior to my surgery I met my surgeon Dimitri Kazakos who explained the procedure to me and discussed my treatment. During the surgery he explained what was happening at all times and it only took about 5 mins in total. Vision was a bit milky but cleared within a few minutes. After resting for a short time my surgeon checked my eyes and I was ready to go.I was long sighted and the difference is amazing. Being able to read without my glasses is the best thing. I would highly recommend laser surgery to anyone. Instead of thinking about it….just do it. You will not regret it. I would however advise taking some pain killers with you to the clinic so you can take them after surgery, as the eyes are not sore as such but uncomfortable for a couple of hours after treatment. Also optical express say to allow 3 hrs but it was only about an hour and a half in total. Anyway, gotta go, so much to SEE with my new eyes….)

I opted to have Laser eye surgery as was shortsighted with Optical Express and do not regret that decision one bit! My surgery was on 13th August and from the day I had the initial consultation on 1/8/09 to the day of the surgery (13/8/09) the service and care I received was absolutely fantastic. I had the LASIK/Wavefront/IntraLase procedure and I can honestly say that I do not know why I was so nervous. When I arrived the nurses and Dimitri were very warm and comforting as I was so nervous about having the surgery and throughout the procedure Dimitri was telling me everything he was doing and reassuring me of which I felt at ease. I can honestly say having laser eye surgery has totally changed my life for the better, I have 20/20 vision and my sight is getting better by the day, I can’t wait until it is fully recovered!! I would recommend Dimitri and Optical Express to anyone who is thinking about having laser eye surgery. I don’t normally comment on things, but I think Dimitri deserves to be recognised.He was fantastic! Thank you very much for everything, you have changed my life.

I had my surgery in Dublin on 22nd August 2009. I had LASIK IntraLase surgery. My sight was -1.75. I live in Cork. By the time I came back to Cork my sight was perfect. Next day of operation my sight is 110%. I was wearing glasses or contacts for the last 10 years. I can not believe that i do not have to wear them any more. It is unbelievable feeling. Everybody who is wearing glasses or contacts understands what I am talking about. The whole procure was very short and painless. Absolutely painless. Before the procedure I was very nervious and anxious. I did not know what to expect. Before the operation I was told that each eye would be operated for 10 min. It is not true exactly. The whole operation is much more shorter. Basically it is a few minutes in total.I would like to say special thank you to all the nurses and staff of the clinic taking part in the operation and helping me that day. And special thank you to my surgeon Mr. Dimitri Kazakos. He is very calm, professional and friendly. He explained to me what is going to happen during the operation, answered all my questions and eased all my conserns. I was very worried about the whole idea that something would be put into my eyes. I was not sure that I would be able to handle this. During the operation Dimitri was explaining to me what is going to happen next. it was very assuring and calming. After the procedure I rested for 20 minutes in a nice and cosy room. 20 min after the surgeon checked my eyes and wished me good luck! It was brilliant!I have no regrets by choosing Optical Express. I knew that I am in good hands and I could trust doctors there. A few friends of mine did the surgery wtih Optical Express. Also it is very handy that Optical Express has the office in Cork. For all the after care consultations i do not have to go Dublin.I would recommend everybody thinking about this operation just forget about all the worries and go for it.
