An experienced Ophthalmic Surgeon, Mr. Oberholster has performed over 26,000 laser procedures. He is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and is a fully trained Ophthalmologist who has undergone additional specialist training in refractive surgery.
Mr. Oberholster is an Ophthalmic Surgeon for Optical Express and has gained vast experience with special interests in cataract and refractive surgery and is an active member of various affiliated bodies and societies such as Ophthalmological Society of South Africa. Twice every year, Mr. Oberholster attends International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) Conferences and is annually assessed by this board. The panel consists of several of the world’s most eminent Refractive Surgeons including Mr. Steven Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy, Dr. Jan Venter, a world leading Ophthalmic Surgeon, and Mr. Jeffery Machat, co-founder of TLC Vision, one of the largest laser vision correction providers in the world.
Mr. Oberholster was born and educated in South Africa where he began his medical career at the University of Pretoria in 1979 and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) in 1984. He spent two years at the Military Hospital of Pretoria in the Ophthalmology Department before progressing to work as a private general practitioner for six years. In 1992 Mr. Oberholster pursued his interest in Ophthalmology when he accepted a Registrar position at the University of Stellenbosch and obtained his Masters Degree in Ophthalmology (MMed Ophth) in 1997. The following six months he spent at the Bristol Eye Hospital after which he became a private practitioner in Ophthalmology at the Cape Eye Hospital. Mr. Oberholster accepted a position as a part-time Consultant and Lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch and attended a weekly clinic in oculoplastic surgery.
Mr. Oberholster has made presentations in many different countries about laser surgery and regularly attends conferences about both laser vision correction and cataract surgery allowing him to stay abreast of all developments in the advancing field of ophthalmology.

I have recently had lens inplants to correct my vision after wearing spectacles for 45 years. I had an initial consultation with Andre at the Rosen Clinic Manchester and as soon as I met him I knew I would be in safe hands. As I am also diabetic controlled with insulin Andre advised that I would need to have the first surgical appointment of the day 07:00. Andre explained the procedure I was having to me in detail and in terms I could understand, he put me at my ease and filled me with quiet confidence so I was happy to book the procedure prior to leaving the clinic. I had my first eye completed on 26/6/09 and was due to have the 2nd eye surgery 2/7/09. Unfortunately due to low blood count I had to go into my local hospital for a week and had to cancel my eye. I was disappointed about cancelling but also worried about having to cancel my eye at the last minute and putting Andre and the staff team to a lot of trouble. I eventually had my second eye operation on 5/8/09 and I cannot thank Andre and the staff teams at the Rosen Clinic and Bridgewater hospital enough. They are all very caring, sincere, patient orientated people and take pride in offering customers/patients an excellent service and enjoy their work. I especially want to thank Andre for his understanding care and support. I was so excited when he removed my patch after the 2nd operation I went to look in the car park to check how far I could see a number plate from after all those years wearing glasses I felt free. I think Andre is an excellent surgeon and a wonderful human being and the worlds a better place for him being here.
