I have worn glasses since the age of 14. After having laser treatment, the result is amazing. It was a delight to throw my glasses away. Thank you Ultralase.

I underwent surgery for farsightedness (plus 4.25) with moderate astigmatism in July 2002 I also have a presbyopia correction of plus 2.25 The operation was performed at the Leeds Ultralase clinic by Dr Gilbert Cohen. . I was made fully aware at the clinic that I was not a perfect candidate. My hope was to be less dependent on corrective lenses and to be able to function part of the day without them. It was clearly explained to me that my farsightedness was on the limit of what could be treated. Prior to surgery I had been used to wearing contact lenses to provide mono vision which worked quite well for most applications but I was no longer able to wear contact lenses for more than a few hours a day. Following the initial surgery which went well I was able to read with my right eye corrected to -1.25 whilst the left eye (the dominant eye ) was just about good enough for driving distance but there was still a significant astigmatism -1.25 After full discussion with the surgeon who was more than happy to give me as much time as I wanted, I decided to have an enhancement on the left eye (dominant) to hopefully remove the astigmatism. Four months after the enhancement and I have 20/20 vision with both eyes together. I am highly delighted with the result as I can now drive and read for short times without the need for glasses for the first time in my life at the age of 63! The experience was not unpleasant and I did not suffer from dry eyes. I do have a certain amount of glare at night and some decrease in contrast sensitivity but I feel this is a small price to pay for my vastly improved vision. I would have no hesitation in recommending this clinic and Gilbert Cohen to anyone considering lasik surgery. My pupil dilate to 8mm which is Ultralase's max. I am concerned about the 'halo' effect at night, especially when driving. Can anybody assure or deter me? Thanks

Amazing. Had one eye done a week ago by Pascal Annonier, and the done yesterday by Vinod Gupta, both wavefront guided LASIK at St. Albans. A week ago I was this: Right: -7.25 / +1.50 x 95 Left: -7.00 / +2.00 x 90 and now I can read the bottom line of the chart with one eye, and the second line from the bottom with the other eye. Absolutely stunning. The best money I ever spent, and worth ten times the price!

After developing an intollerance to contact lenses, I forced myself to research the whole laser thing. Opted to go with Ultralase as they were the quickest to respond to initial enquiry and all subsequent questions - plus they were offering an interest free payment scheme! Had the proceedure done on May 23rd at Hammersmith by Mr Gupta. My previous prescription was -2 / -2.5. I have to say that from start to finish I have absolutely no complaints. They were very professional, answered all my (many) questions and were very understanding of my near hysteria on the day. My advice would be definitely take the valium offered as it basically puts you to sleep for the rest of the day, take some headphones with you for the hour afterwards, tell all your friends to call you the day after (or your phone will be constantly ringing, like mine was). The proceedure is absolutely PAIN FREE, although completely nerveracking - if I knew then what I know now, I would not have had the 2 weeks of sleepless nights beforehand and would not have waited so long to get it done. The worst part for me was the taste of the eye drops (tear ducts link to throat) - they are absolutely VILE and if, like me, you have an easily upset stomache - prepare yourself for a couple of rough days. My vision is now amazing - could read the bottom of the eye chart day after I had it done - no probs! Took a week off work as I work in the worst conditions for post op care (no natural light, heavy air conditioning, 100% computer work) and after being back for a couple of days, I'm glad I did as my eyes have been a bit tired. Have driven at night and yes, there is now a strange effect around lights - but not bad enough that I wouldn't drive - and the clinic have said that may fade in time. As for the dry eye thing - they said in my 2nd check up that I was suffering from it - but I didnt feel anything - so no real problem there as I've got new gel drops. All in all - I wish I'd had the guts to get it done two years ago when I first thought about it. Think all the staff at Hammersmith were great, the receptionist has had it done and completey understood my fear, the nurses are great (and even let you hold their hand). If there were a rating of ten stars this would not be sufficient to portray the quality of this company!! My dealings have been over a period of weeks and although I won't go into why I ended up at Ultralase I wish I had started with them in the first place. The whole team, from the Chairman Mr. Neave through their communications department (thanks Robin!), staff at their Guildford branch and Mr Perera (my surgeon) have been nothing else but superb throughout. I had my LASIK last Thursday evening (correcting mixed-astigmatism) and although the procedure cannot be classed as 'enjoyable' by no means is it painful, when balancing this with the outcome the pros outweigh the cons immeasurably. After an initial recheck with Mr. Perera and going through the consent form (it sounds worse than it is and they must highlight the 'worst case' scenarios) I was taken into pre-op where all the details were rechecked again by a lovely Kiwi nurse who did the usual clean up before treatment. During the op itself, which lasted no more than twenty minutes, both Mr. Perera and the supporting nurses explained everything as it happended. The day after I awoke, removed the annoying plastic shields to find I could see clearer without glasses/contacts than I have ever done. No side effects such as the dry-eyes experienced so far and my vision, after the day-one check-up, is better than 6-6, the optometrist estimates I have 75% of the target prescription so this is likely to get better! Anyone considering this treatment should definitely talk to a few people and get opinions, think through why they are getting it done and work out if it's really what they want. Don't get me wrong, this is not cheap but boy do you get results! My final comments are; so far so good, no major complications and if the results continue to improve then I will be left with the fantastic eyesight I've always wanted. If you want a company who are professional, care about their patients, are good to their promises but don't promise what can't be achieved and above all else are a pleasure to deal with then Ultralase are the way to go. I recently went for a consultation at Ultralase's clinic in Leeds. What a pleasant surprise! I was really apprehensive that the whole experience would be hard sell - but not at all. They were really open and honest and the decision to go for treatment, or not, was very much in my hands - once I was told I was suitable for treatment of course. And I am. So I'm booked in and, although a little nervous, I can't wait. So if anyone out there is thinking about a consultation I would genuinely recommended seeing Ultralase.

Well, I had my first eye done one week ago and thought I would post my experiences as have found reading other peoples' comments to be very helpful. My doctor was W Jory and my eyes were -7 and -7.5. After thinking about having eye surgery for years, I decided to go for the microsurgery because of its long clinical history and relative certainty of results. Also, the very frank comments from people on this site about their own experiences was very helpful, together with Mr Jory's excellent reputation. My -7.5 eye was operated on last week, with the decision to undercorrect in order to avoid the eye over-healing and possibly becoming long-sighted. What I do is wear a contact lens in one eye while the corrected eye continues to heal. My corrected eye is still nearsighted, but so much less so than it was, and the fact that my eyes each have a different prescription is not as disconcerting as one might think. There is essentially no difference at all between the eyes for the first 2 hours in the morning, although as the day wears on, my eye quickly tires and the vision becomes more blurred. The plan is to operate on this eye again in one month's time to make the vision as close to perfect as possible before starting the procedure on the other eye. I do not have a problem with halos or starbursts, although this was a big concern of mine prior to the surgery which is one of the reasons I decided against laser surgery. I use a computer at work, which probably makes my eye tire more quickly, but it hasn't stopped me doing my job or typing emails all day. I have driven during the day without any problems. My surgery was quick and painless. Mr Jory made me feel entirely at ease and maybe the Valium helped a bit as well! After the surgery, I slept for a few hours and removed the patch to find that my vision had definitely improved. My eye did hurt but the painkillers I was given did the trick although the eye was very tender and sore for several days afterwards, it wasn't enough to require additional painkillers. A week later, I can put on eyeshadow without it hurting and I can tell the vision in my eye is getting stronger every day. The downsides for me are that I can't exercise properly for a few months and I wish I didn't have to put my eye through the recovery period again with the second operation that's required. But these are short term inconveniences and I am happy with my decision to do the surgery.

As you read this and all the other testimonials, I probably can 2nd guess many of the thoughts and emotions going through your mind There all written from the other side of the fence. You can't hide the fact, it is a big decision. I researched it, asked questions, spoke to people and decided to do it. Two weeks on after 40+ years of wearing glasses (fairly high prescription). It's been an amazing experience so far, using the protective glasses made everything still feel the same, except I had to remind myself there's no prescription in them. Be comfortable with your own decision, you may find that it opens up a whole new world for you. All this was with a customer service provided by staff that personifies excellence, I couldn't fault it.

Having worn contact lenses and glasses for 17 years, I decided two years ago to have Lasik treatment. I researched the leading companies extensively; and decided to go with Ultralase. Moorfields was an interest, but their Waiting List was far too long. Other companies' rates seemed to be too cheap. The overall service offered by Ultralase was fantastic; from initial check up to the treatment itself and after care. My treatment was even delayed a month so that Ultralase could be 100% sure that my eyes were ready for the treatment (as I had been wearing hard lenses for 17 years ). Since my treatment, I have recommended Ultralase to more than 10 other people; and will continue to do so. 100% satisfaction.
