4. The Verdict

laser eye surgery review verdict

I am really happy with the results. Apart from the machine not working and the long wait, the staff at this Optimax were really nice, friendly and helpful, as was Dr Patel. I would recommend this Optimax. – Tina Gibson

(3.9 out of 5)

Optimax has an average overall rating due to hit-and-miss patient care, based on nearly 9,000 independent reviews on Lasik Eyes since 2002.

Most patients we spoke to were happy with the service. However, the long waiting times and poor communication mean this clinic misses the top spots on the list of the best laser eye surgery clinics in the UK. Still, Optimax makes it into these top lists:

lens replacement went well. Following that I needed remediation treatment on one eye – lazer treatment. I was asked back a total of 8 times to review my eyes but was not explained anything about what or why I should have dry eyes. treat ment for that was hardly explained and I returned many ties without any further treatment scheduled, nor with any explanation of how they would proceed. after a year almost to the day I was given lazer remediation treatment. On the day all the proper tests were carried out before the treatment. However I overheard that my data had crashed to computer which instructed the lazer what to do. Finally after 3 and a half hours someone came to me and said they had solved their”little ” problem and work would now commence. I was really scared by the time I sat in the chair for my eye to be lazered (!) and had to say to the doctor that I just had to trust his expertise that he would not proceed if anything was wrong.
Terrible after care service and lack of information. I wrote complaining to them on March1st (I think) and still have had only an acknowledgement, but no reply to my complaiint. Outrageous! Would not reccommend to anyone.

I just wanted to add my comments to this site. I had Lasek on both eyes at the same time at the Croydon site with Dr Hoe on the 30th Sept. Six weeks on and I am so so so so pleased with my eyes. On the day of the surgery I was ok and had spoken to Steve who is on this website at the Croydon office as he had a check that day. I was really positive about the out come as Dr Hoe was lovely during the consultation. It was me who messed up with my nerves going to pot when I had my first eye lasered. I kept moving and the laser stopped about five times. When I had the other eye done I was more relaxed and the laser only stopped once. It was all completely painless. Like everyone writes, you can see whats going on but no pain is felt at all. I had two days with my eyes closed with lots of friends popping round to talk to me which was great! When I went back to have my contact lenses taken out I knew that the first eye I had done was not good - all I could see was a cloud the other eye was perfect. She assumed me it was still healing where my vision is. When I went back for my second check up three weeks later my eye had improved so much. It was still not as good as the other one but not by much. I had a slight haze when looking at print. She assured me that my eyes are still improving. Now six weeks on the haze has gone and I am so happy with how good my sight is - when reading things with friends my eye sight is better than theirs which is amazing. Im so glad I went a head and had it done. I went to optimax as a work colleague had hers done with them too. Thank you optimax I am 100% happy with how you have improved my eye sight.

Anyone any comments on Dr Patel in Finchley Road? Also, can anyone advise about having same-day treatment on both eyes. I suspect i'll need LASEK. I was going to have one eye done at a time, but with my perscription i can see problems being able to get on until i have the other eye done. I am having my consultation on the 22nd October and am also looking to take advantage of the 2 for 1 offer.

Well I've been in for my checkup today and as expected I was 20/20 in both eyes. The only side effect I've had is a slight haze, but hopefully that will clear in the next couple of weeks. Unlike some other posts, I'm glad I waited until now to have the operation. I always got on well with contact lenses and I suspect the advances of technolgy and experience have been significant with the laser eye surgery over the past few years. This made me very comfortable with the entire procedure and the expected results. The only other point I'd like to mention is the choice between Lasik and PRK. I was suitable for either treatment, but opted for Lasik due to the faster recovery. People in a similar situation need to carefully weigh the pros and cons between the two procedures and make an informed choice. I'll post again after my next check up, but ifn people are suitable for laser eye surgery I would certainly recommend it.

Well I had lasik treatment about 4 hours ago from Doctor Hynes at the Manchester clinic. My prescription was -4.5 in both eyes. The procedure itself was much as I expected. It was slightly uncomfortable but certainly not painful in any way shape or form. The smell of burning flesh isn't especially unpleasant and you get a fantastic light show. Once the anaesthetic drops wear off it's a bit painful for a couple of hours, but everything seems fine now and I CAN SEE CLEARLY !! I'll post again after the aftercare appointmnets, but I'm confident that I may even be 20/20 by tomrorrow. Another patient in Manchester today had travelled from Milton Keynes specifically to see Doctor Hynes and I would certainly recommend him to anyone else considering treatment.

Wilma, I had blurred vision in one eye for a couple of weeks and it settled down fine. I had my eyes done a month ago at Advance Visioncare and find they are still changing a little each day, though my sight is excellent. They say your vision can take up to three months to finally settle. But I'd ask your clinic and make an appointment if you're worried.

Treated in Manchester by Lasek. Just had a check up after 4 weeks because my left eye was still short sighted (my right eye is 20/20). Good news - I can now read the 4th line on the chart with my left eye (only 2nd line 3 weeks ago). I've been put on steriod drops for 6 weeks which could improve my eyesight even more. I have to go back in 4 weeks so I'll just wait and see how everything goes. As it stands, I'm over the moon with my eyesight now and quite happy if things stay the same. It's amazing how many people I've met are now thinking about laser eye surgery because of my experience.
