4. The Verdict

laser eye surgery review verdict

I am really happy with the results. Apart from the machine not working and the long wait, the staff at this Optimax were really nice, friendly and helpful, as was Dr Patel. I would recommend this Optimax. – Tina Gibson

(3.9 out of 5)

Optimax has an average overall rating due to hit-and-miss patient care, based on nearly 9,000 independent reviews on Lasik Eyes since 2002.

Most patients we spoke to were happy with the service. However, the long waiting times and poor communication mean this clinic misses the top spots on the list of the best laser eye surgery clinics in the UK. Still, Optimax makes it into these top lists:

lens replacement went well. Following that I needed remediation treatment on one eye – lazer treatment. I was asked back a total of 8 times to review my eyes but was not explained anything about what or why I should have dry eyes. treat ment for that was hardly explained and I returned many ties without any further treatment scheduled, nor with any explanation of how they would proceed. after a year almost to the day I was given lazer remediation treatment. On the day all the proper tests were carried out before the treatment. However I overheard that my data had crashed to computer which instructed the lazer what to do. Finally after 3 and a half hours someone came to me and said they had solved their”little ” problem and work would now commence. I was really scared by the time I sat in the chair for my eye to be lazered (!) and had to say to the doctor that I just had to trust his expertise that he would not proceed if anything was wrong.
Terrible after care service and lack of information. I wrote complaining to them on March1st (I think) and still have had only an acknowledgement, but no reply to my complaiint. Outrageous! Would not reccommend to anyone.

ADVICE NEEDED!!!! I am a student taking up the offer of 2-4-1 LASIK treatment with my TWIN sister! We have our consultation and treatment appointment booked with Optimax in Birmingham. The reason it is so cheap is because they want to make it affordable to everyone (im quoting/paraphrasing) Can anyone tell me about Dr Hill? His biography is quite extensive although obviously I would love some reassurance :) We're both 22 and -6 to -7 Hollie

Hi, Re: Dr Islam – Optimax - London Clinic I was just wondering if anyone out there has had any experiences of Dr Islam in the London office. I am due to undergo Lasek treatment on the 4th December and am getting very, very nervous and would appreciate some honest, independent feedback. Thanks - Enda Norton

I had LASEK treatment in June 2003 at the Southampton Branch of Optimax with Dr Ayoubi initially I got to a stage of having 20/20 vision in my left eye but within about 6 weeks I have a misting created by scar tissue which has caused everything to be very blurry. I've been given drops to try and clear up the misting which I need to take for 6 weeks but apparently in some patients can last for up to 3 years. Fingers crossed everything will be ok but as yet has no real improvement. My right eye is now good enough to meet driving standards. Steve.

Hello sir I m going to tell you my whole history from my childhood (actually unfortunately I have got an accident in my child hood which resulted in damage of my eye) which is prepared by the local doctor which is in medical language BY: Dr. Nadeem Riaz I saw the patient with the compliment of decrease in vision left eye more than the right eye. He gives history of blunt ocular trauma to his left eye at the age of 5 years and was operated twice on that eye.on examination his best corrected vision in right eye is 618 and left eye Hand movement appreciation only. I O P in each is normal and eyes are essentially quit. Fundus examination shows bilateral posterior staphylomata with left opticatrophy. Peripheral retina appears stable. He is high myope and his refraction is R E: --18.00/-1.00at20 LE: --16.00D.S Now when u are familiar with my problem then I would like to know the situation of my this problem I don’t want to use glasses or contact lenses any more so kindly reply me with its best solution I will be very thankful to you

My friend and I are due to have bilateral lasik next month, and we are both starting to panic! We are booked into the Ipswich branch with Dr Fraschetti, I believe he used to work at the Bristol office. Does anyone have any experience of this surgeon/clinic, we are starting to wonder whether it would be better for us to have one eye done at a time. If we do have each eye done seperately, how soon can we have the other done and is it really worth us doing it this way. Please advise as we are already getting nervous and we have got three weeks to go yet!!

Had Lasik at the Edinburgh clinic last week. I initially went to the Glasgow clinic but they do not offer the advanced Wafefront laser technology so I travelled to Edinburgh for the treatment. I found the Edinburgh lot less friendly than the Glasgow clinic, they seemed more keen to get me to hand over my deposit than to explain the procedure or side effects. There was no oppurtunity to see the consultant before the procedure, you only see him five minutes before you actually undergo the op. He didn't introduce himself and seemed pretty brusque. I week after the op I have excellent vision in my right eye, but my vision in my left eye is just above driving standard (6/9); disappointing as my eyesight with glasses was actually better than normal (6/5) in that eye before the op. On the other hand, it is such a change to be able to see clearly and not be dependent on spectacles. Also I have not had any of the side effects like haloes or night blindness that sometimes occur; just the inevitable dry eyes, which I hope will improve over the next few months. Overall I would rate them 4/5, poor customer service but they do use the latest technology and their results are good; also they are among the cheapest clinics offering the latest (and best) wavefront technology, only charging between 750 and 900 per eye, wheras clinic like Boots which have older outdated lasers charge upto £1500 per eye just because of their name. One important point to note - unlike most other reputable clinics, they do not offer free re-treatments, so if they under or over-correct you, you will have to shell out another £300 per eye to get it put right. Pretty steep, considering the original operation was only £750 per eye.

I had lasek done on both eyes in manchester a week and a half ago with Dr Shay. The results are great. I am from Ireland and made the appt over the phone. They did give me some wrong information - told me i could travel home on the same day wheras the dr said i should stay at least 1 night. I was also unable to get the bandage contact lenses because they gave me wrong info on an optician here in Ireland (told me that she could take the lenses out but she could not). So i went without and it was very uncomfortable for the first two days. After all that i still think it was well worth it and anyone considering it should go for it......no more glasses.....yippee!!!!!!!

Had my 2 week check up on Friday and everything is fine. I had bi-lateral Lasik treatment to correct -4.5 in both eyes. Even though Doctor Hynes wasn't scheduled to see me one of his patients was late so he did the checkup. My eyesight is better than 20/20 for both eyes. I'm still not out of the habit of reaching for glasses in the morning and heading to the bathroom to take my lenses out at night though.I'll post again after the final checkup in December.

I'm booked in for a consultation on Thursday 23/10 at Southampton with Dr Ayoubi and (if all okay) LASEK (possibly bi-lateral) same day. My prescription is: Right: -2.25, 0.25, 125deg Left: -1.75, 0.25, 105deg I've read all there is to read on the internet, and considered it long and hard, finally coming to the decision that the time is right. I first enquired with Optimax in Bristol ten years ago, but was put off by the fact that it was a relatively new procedure. I'm right on the verge of not needing to wear glasses during the day, but sometimes find normal tasks difficult without them. Problem is I can't stand contact lenses and hate wearing glasses. I want to see peoperly again, something I haven't done since I was 14 (17 years ago). Will post again post-op to let you all know how it went. Wish me luck !
