Mr. George is an experienced Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in laser eye surgery and has performed more than 13,000 procedures including LASIK and LASEK. He is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and is a fully trained Ophthalmologist who has undergone additional specialist training in refractive surgery.
He is an Ophthalmic Surgeon for Optical Express who has gained vast experience in a wide range of specialities and is an active member of various affiliated bodies and societies such as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the British Medical Association. Twice every year, Mr. George attends International Medical Advisory Board (IMAB) Conferences and is annually assessed by this board.
The panel consists of several of the world’s most eminent Refractive Surgeons including Mr. Steven Schallhorn, former Head of Ophthalmology for the US Navy, Dr. Jan Venter, a world leading Ophthalmic Surgeon, and Mr. Jeffery Machat, co-founder of TLC Vision, one of the largest laser vision correction providers in the world.
Mr. George began his distinguished career when he obtained his medical degree in 1975 from Aligarh University in India and was certified in Ophthalmology in 1984 from Bombay University in India after obtaining his Masters and Diploma qualifications. In 1985, he obtained further qualifications from the National Board of Examinations in Ophthalmology from New Delhi, India and went on to acquire the FRCS (Ed) qualification and the FRCOphth in 1989 and 1990, respectively.
He completed his refractive surgery training from 1994 to 1995 as a Fellow at the Centre for Sight at Georgetown University in Washington DC and was also involved in the investigational Phase 3 FDA trials of PTK and PRK. Mr. George is certified on the VISX S3 and S4IR laser platforms as well as the Moria M2 Microkeratomes.
In addition to his vast experience carrying out laser vision correction procedures, Mr. George is also highly experienced in intraocular surgery and corneal procedures to treat refractive errors such as limbal relaxing incisions, compression suturing, arcuate keratotomy, clear lens and cataract extraction surgery and Phakic IOL surgery.
Mr. George has many years of experience at the level of a Consultant Ophthalmologist in several countries including the UK and many of his patients have been colleagues, fellow Doctors, Solicitors and fellow professionals. He has been a supervisor of Ophthalmic Trainees for the National Board of Examinations in India and has also been involved in training Optometrists delivering CET lectures all over the UK.
Throughout his career, he has furthered his primary interest in the anterior segment diseases of the eye and refractive surgery and has been involved in corneal transplantation work and trauma repair.
Mr. George has delivered lectures, written papers and conducts regular audits of the results of his activities, surgeries and patient satisfaction surveys, highlighting his commitment to his field and his dedication to outstanding clinical outcomes.

I had my intralase wavefront laski treatment at Optical Express in the Merry Hill Centre on 09/05/2013 and it was the best decision ever. It has been only few days now and I would say my vision is 18/20 but it is improving with every single day. Surgery was pain free - the only bad moment was about 30 minutes after the treatment when my eyes were very wet so I could not open them. After 4 hours of sleep everything was absolutely perfect and I could see a lot more than before. Mr Alex George is a really good surgeon. His behavior was professional and friendly. He is not kind of person to make jokes with or talk about anything else than the treatment.Overall I am really happy.

I had laser eye surgery at Optical Express in the Birmingham Clinic in May 2011. It is the best investment I ever made. It has now been a month and I have 20/20 vision in both my eyes. My left eye took about a month to heal and now it has 20/20 vision just like my right eye.The surgery was completely painless, it was over in ten minutes, although my vision was hazy I could see better than what could with my glasses. After a good night's sleep the next day I had clear vision.I had no problems during and after surgery and I would recommend Optical Express to anyone thinking of going for laser eye surgery.My only regret is that I should have done it ages ago. I had lasik wavefront at by Mr George on 16 Dec 10. He is a very professional man. Not much on chit chat but he made me feel comfortable and explained everything both before surgery and also as he went through each stage.I had better than 20/20 vision the next day and now, just a few weeks later, my vision is even better and I have no complications (it took about a week for my eyes to feel 'normal' and completely comfortable again).Thank you Mr George.

Was treated by Mr Alex George on 7th December 2010 at the Bristol Cabot Circus clinic. Unfortunately, there was a mixup with the trains and Mr George was about an hour late (luckily I just went and did some window shopping). However, he was extremely professional and very efficient. Also a nurse called Carol, who works on his personal travelling team, was really friendly and comforting. Mr George kept me informed throughout the procedure which went quickly and was a success! Went back the next day for the 24 hour check up and they found a very small piece of fibre trapped between the flap in my left eye. Thankfully, Mr George was operating at the clinic and made time to see me. It was taken out without any fuss and feels much better. Vision is still a bit soft focus despite having 20/20 vision.
