I went to the Belfast clinic. Pre op tests showed I was suitable despite telling them I suffered from dry eyes. I stupidly assumed they knew what they were talking about and went ahead with the surgery June 2007. My visual acuity during the day is now 6/6, but I've ended up with severe dry eye and horrific night time aberrations that include halos, glare and starbursts. My visual acuity also reduces to -1.00 at night time because my pupils dilate outside the zone that was enhanced (the size of my pupils should have been accounted for in the pre op checks!) And then the kick came when I was down...the so called "after care" was appalling. The opticians were totally incompetent and very reluctant to refer me back to the surgeon (it was as if they didn't want to disturb him). One asked if I'd tried blinking more and drinking water to help the dry eye, another informed me everyone has trouble seeing in the dark! When I did finally get referred back to the surgeon, it was a different one called Dimitri Kazakos, who told me I was unsuitable for an enhancement and prescribed me Alphagan eye drops to reduce the size of my pupil at night time. He told me to put the drops in when returning for the next appointment, but clearly forgot he told me to do this as he had the audacity to ask me if I was using "recreational drugs" as my pupils were so small! Nearly 6 years on and I still suffer with severe dry eye, night time aberrations and loss of visual acuity, with no light at the end of the tunnel (if I could see the light it would probably have a halo round it!) I can not express enough what a detrimental effect this surgery can have on your life if it goes wrong, especially if you go to the wrong clinic!

I cannot rate the skill of this surgeon highly enough. The surgery was painless and Tom Matterman at Bristol very professional and skilled. You only get one set of eyes so I was very nervous of what was about to happen. I had no need to worry and now have better than 20/20 vision! The difference in just being able to wear sunglasses and walk in the rain without steaming up is fantastic! I have since recommended many friends to Mr Matterman and they have all expressed the same opinion. If anyone would like further information or a money off voucher to help toward the cost of this life changing procedure please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be pleased to talk you through my experience. My email address is Kind regards Paul

I had my Surgery done on the 11th June, I was -3.75 and -4.00 and now have better than 20/20 vision. I am so pleased. Tom Materman puts your eyes first! I had my op cancelled because of dry eyes and he wouldn't preform the surgery until he was happy with them, which I am so thankful for, as he said you only get one pair of eyes and they are very important. The team were brilliant too, talking me through every step of the way. I would recommend Tom and his team to anyone -Thank you.

I had surgery on the 28th April and my surgeon was Tom Materman, who was very pleasant and precise throughout the surgery. Mr Materman explained every move while he conducting the procedure which only took less than 10 minutes from start to finish. I felt no pain or discomfort. Mr Materman and his team were very professional throughout, I felt at ease as soon as I attended the clinic. before surgery my prescriptions was -1.5 but 24 hours after the surgery I have 20/20 vision. My eyes are a little blurry up close and I have a halo with lights at the moment but this is to be expected and it is getting better every day. Thank you Mr Materman and your team.

I had wavefront intralase lasik treatment in Bristol. Tom Matermann performed my treatment and was extremely professional and knew what he was doing which put me at ease straight away. Tom was able to talk me through the whole procedure which took under 10 minutes. I had my treatment less than 24 hours ago and discomfort only lasted for a couple of hours afterwards. I was -2.75 and -3.00 and at my post check-up today was told i have 20/20 vision which will vary obviously as it heals as it is only early days but I am extremely happy I have had it done.Huge thanks to Tom and all the staff at Optical Express, Bristol.

Absolutely fantastic man. He was excellent in explaining the full procedurprior to the operation and throughout he always asked if I was alright. I would certainly recommend both Optical Express and Tom Materman to anyone who wants to be able to see properly without glasses.I wished I had had this done years ago - I had the operation on the 22nd of January and have not looked back at all. The most amazing thing is waking up in the morning and being able to see without having to reach for my glasses.

Mr Materman is absolutely wonderful! He has a very calm and reassuring manner. I had standard lasik with intralase on both eyes. I was extremely anxious and shaky before and during procedure but he and his surgical team were very supportive and kept me informed at every stage of the procedure. I felt well looked after throughout and although the procedure is uncomfortable (but painless), its so quick and the results are absolutely amazing! . I had the treatment at 5pm Wednesday 16th Dec and at my post op appointment at 11am the next morning, my vision was better than 20/20 and my eyes felt fine. This has changed my lfe and I can't thank Mr Materman enough!
