After thinking about surgery for several months I began looking around. Visited the clinics in town and decided to visit St James hospital before making a final decision. After meeting the consultant Mr James Ball who gave me great confidence after fully explaining the the procedure and informing me the laser used can treat eye with higher problems than most used in standard eye clinic. I decided to go ahead. Things could not have gone better all the staff were really helpful and put me at ease as I was understandably nervous . Everything went very well and Until my 2nd eye refused to open and Mr Ball has to work hard to open the eye he did a fantastic job to open my eye and was able to complete the operation 6 weeks later I can not believe the difference in my sight and would recommend the treatment and especially St James hospital laser clinic but then it is one of the main teaching hospitals as has some of the best consultants working there so any one thinking about eye surgery should (must) have a consultation at this clinic. So a big thank you to Mr Ball and all the wonderful staff.

I can highly recommend Mr Morrell. I am so pleased with the results of the surgery. The advice, treatment and after-care have been excellent. The surgery was slightly uncomfortable, but my eyes settled very quickly afterwards and within hours I was able to see. I have worn glasses since the age of eight and am amazed at the impact on my life of not using them any more. Mr Morrell is very approachable and answered all of my questions and his optician is the friendliest optician I have ever visited. All of my appointments have been positive experiences. I was never kept waiting and made to feel very welcome. I cannot praise the whole of the treatment process and my experience at St James highly enough.

A brilliant procedure, I wish I had had it done years ago. The operation and everything afterwards all went wonderfully well. All the staff are very helpful and at the time of the operation the surgeon was so very skilful and reassuring. I would recommend it to anyone.

I can't speak highly enough about Mr Ball and his team. Patient, skilled and professional; their whole approach makes you feel you are in the hands of people you can trust. I had worn glasses since the age of seven and now have perfect eye-sight. The skill and service at St James Laser Vision is first class and I would recommend them to anyone.

I'm really pleased I chose St James surgery and Mr Ball. There's no hard sell, there's excellent customer care, excellent follow-up care - and most importantly excellent and precise surgery. I can't praise the place enough - I've got great eyesight now, and I'm personally very glad I took the decision. It's definitely one of the best things I've spent money on.

In early December 2008, my optician mentioned in passing that there was a laser eye clinic that was part of St. James's Hospital which is run by NHS consultant opthalmologists. Something that has always put me off laser eye surgery before was the "stack 'em high, sell 'em cheap" type offerings from the main stream providers. They just never gave me the confidence to proceed. I booked in for a consultation in early January and was impressed with the professionalism of all the staff and especially the surgeon, Mr Morrell. In my opinion, the fact that the two surgeons who operate there are British NHS consultant opthalmologists and the clinic is part of St. James's is worth it's weight in gold. The following week I had LASEK surgery because I never liked the idea of having my cornea cut. My eye sight is now better than it was with glasses. I was -3.5 in both eyes before and now I feel like I have bionic eyes! It truly is a liberating and life changing experience. I can't recommend Mr Morrell and his team highly enough. If you want the best treatment and the best aftercare then call St. James's Laser Vision for a consultation.

I can't recommend St. James's Laser Vision & Mr Morrell highly enough! Having laser surgery has changed my life...for the better. I was very short sighted & have worn glasses since early school days. My prescription was over -7 in both eyes. I found Mr Morrell highly professional & an expert in his field. He was very patient at answering my numerous questions & put me at ease, inspiring total confidence. I had visited a few clinics but decided to go with St James's due to the fact that money was not the overriding factor as seemed to be elsewhere, the after-care was so much better & the surgeon, Mr Morrell was so good. He explained my best option would be Lasek & gave me full reasons why. I had the surgery August 2008 & yes the first week was uncomfortable but no where near the discomfort I had thought. A word of caution, if you have a young baby/toddler I would recommend getting family or friends to help you for the first week. I did get dry eyes for a short time after the surgery but the after-care is fantastic - beware at other places your after-care is not always with the surgeon who performed the surgery but can be with any optician, not a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon! It is now 8 months since I had my eyes done & I don't need glasses at all. I can ride, swim, read, drive etc. & the real bonus is I will probably not need reading glasses for another 10 years! I would like to give a big thank you to Mr Morrell & all the staff at St James's Laser Vision, including Karen who was so friendly & approachable. I have no hesitation recommending them.

Treatment went well, I had a quite high prescription (borderline for successful results apparently, -7.0 in one eye -6.5 in the other, both with some astigmatism). Mr Ball was very competent and reassuring throughout the procedure, and seems a down to earth bloke which helps reassure you! Only slight shock for me was that the “slight pressure” you feel when they cut the flap in your eye is a bit of a toe curler, I’d compare it to someone pulling the hairs on your arms. Vision is now better than it ever was wearing contacts, and improving still (treatment was a couple of months ago). Its £3000 regardless of what treatment they use – they just use the best for you – and if you need a top up treatment, that’s included in the 3k as is all the aftercare (which is for a year). Only minor problem was that I had trouble getting through to them as the phone number on the website was incorrect – I think this has been fixed now – so if you’ve tried them and couldn’t get through – try again!!

Having eye surgery has quite literally changed my life. Having worn glasses and then contact lenses for 30 years I took the plunge and went for eye surgery following recommendations from friends about St James Clinic. Despite being very squeamish about eyes I was desperate as I quite an active life. I own a horse, looking after him and riding on a daily basis. In windy weather dirt would blow into my eyes, rendering me painfully blind if I was wearing my contact lenses. If I worn my glasses I struggled to see in the rain and also risked the horse potentially knocking them off. Being able to see properly means whatever the weather I can get on with what I am doing. It has also saved time in messing about putting lenses in, trying to find my glasses and swopping between the two. I no longer get dry eyes at night from wearing lenses all day and don't suffer the inconvenience of a lost lens. I also don't rub my eyes as much so the skin around them will not get stretched and age as quickly as if I were still wearing lenses. It is fantastic being able to see!

I would recommend anyone who is wanting to have treatment to go to St.James Hospital to see Mr. Morrell. I had Lasik and Lasek wavefront at 2 different places in Leeds. Both commercial big names in Laser eye surgery in the UK. Unfortunately my eyes have needed further correction and I have now had treatment at St. James Hospital in Leeds. The difference in treatment has been incredible. 1. First of all if you go to see Mr. Morrell you will see him for a consultation. If you go to a commercial laser eye treatment centre you won't see a surgeon until about 10 minutes before your operation. This first appointment is very important as It is so important to discuss your options and suitability with the surgeon beforehand. 2.The second most important thing is the Laser used. St James have just purchased the most up to date Laser and this is why my results are so much better. Mr Morrell operates on the most difficult to treat patients and is an expert in eye surgery of all kinds not just laser surgery. 3. The risks associated with surgery are less with an expert like Mr Morrell because he sees you after surgery to be absolutely sure everything is alright. This is not the case in a commercial centre. Once you have paid and had the operation you will not see the surgeon again. 4. If you need re treatment like me, you will only get this done in a commercial centre free for a limited time. At St. James Hospital re treatment is not charged for. 5. Don't believe the costs of £395 per eye from the commercial centres this is a con. If you look at the average costs most people will pay £1,500 per eye. St James also offer interest free credit. 6. Last but not least. Having laser eye surgery is fantastically liberating and I am so glad I have had it done. I just wish I had gone to St. James first.
