I’m very happy with my laser treatment. There’s nothing to worry about – there’s no pain, and I would recommend it to anybody. The aftercare at Optical Express is also very good. I just wish i had done it years ago. – Philip Lavelle
Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Fun fact: Optical Express is the only vision correction provider to invest in the iFS150 intraLASE in each of its clinics – the same technology that led to NASA backing laser eye surgery for astronauts in 2007.
Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.
With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.
Optical Express has 128 clinics in the UK alone – far more than any other eye surgery provider. Its locations include London, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dublin, with many more situated in all corners of the country.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.
I can highly recommend Optical Express. They are very professional, and the procedure was pain free. The best thing now is I can see very well without glasses – and it was only done 3 weeks ago. – Elaine Gibson

Visited the Hull clinic in August to discuss Laser Treatment and was told I’d be a perfect candidate for Lens Replacement. After tests and a consultation, Multifocal implants were recommended and surgery was booked to take place in Manchester the following month. As I needed to be at the clinic at 7:30am and then revisit the following morning for a check up, I booked 2 nights in a hotel. On the day of surgery, after similar tests, the clinician decided I was not suitable for Multifocal lens replacement and recommended Mono Focal lenses instead, after she explained her reasons, I agreed to go ahead but Optical Express refused to carry out the operation as I hadn’t had enough time to consider the change of advice. I returned to Hull where the first clinician insisted she was right all along and couldn’t understand why Manchester had disagreed with her. At this point, I lost faith and decided to cancel altogether. Optical Express agreed to a full refund but I was told this would still take 28 WORKING days to process. They made it clear they wouldn’t cover any of my expenses as it was written in their terms and conditions that operations can be cancelled for various reasons. My operation should have been 19th September, Optical Express claimed to have refunded me by 6th November but as of 16th December, I haven’t received a penny of the £6090 I paid in good faith on 10th August. I have raised a dispute with my Bank and they are now investigating. I feel Optical Express put profit way above customer service and have sales teams driven by commission rather than caring health professionals who should care for their clients.
My experience at Optical Express was the best.1st class from start to finish, with no problems what so ever. I have told my friends about this and they have also had the treatment with 100% success. If you want your life changed have this surgery it is the best thing you can do.
I had the Lasek surgery in July, in the Belfast clinic and would highly recommend it to anyone. All the staff at the clinic were so professional and made me feel very at ease. If you are thinking about it please do go for a consultation as it will change your life and you will wish you had it done years ago.
I had surgery on the 27th September 05. I was quite scared about the whole procedue, however, my fears were soon relieved as the staff at the Glasgow clinic were wonderful from the consultation stage through to the post op' appointments. My vision is better than 20/20 vision and I can see for 'miles'. The procedure was a little uncomfortable and I was unable to open my yes for a few hours. I had my surgery at 1.30pm and by 5pm I could read the small coloured print on teletext, I haven't been able to do that for over 14 years. I can't stop raving about the laser surgery and wholly recommend the Glasgow surgery and its staff. Thank you Optical Express Renfield Street Glasgow.
The best decision in recent years was to undergo laser treatment. I am very pleased with my new "freedom". Would thoroughly recommend the procedure and was very impressed with all staff at Optical Express Belfast.
I went to Nottingham for my consultation and found them very professional. They explained everything. I had the surgery (Lasek) done at Birmingham 5 weeks ago and i am very pleased with the results, thankyou to Dr George. The best £1400 i have ever spent. The one thing people were complaining about was the 3 hours waiting but i cannot see why, as you are told that you will be there about that long. Going back to Nottingham in 2 weeks for a check up and i have found the aftercare is very good (Ravi ?). If you are thinking of having it done go for it, the 2 days of red painful eyes is worth it in the end. Mark.
i had my eyes done on 4th march at manchester the service was excellent.in and out within two hours. but still had everything explained in full again, with checks on the machines to see if anything had changed.i have been back twice on the arranged appointments,(cant fault them there either. two wishes in life have come true, been to australia in 03, now had my eyesight fixed, and can read without glasses as well.thanks optical express and all their staff. p.s. go on dont be frightened it's the best thing you could do.
Bluewater Store: First class treatment, first class results, lovely friendly staff. I was very nervous on the day of treatment, but would do it again tomorrow- no pain at all!! thank you everyone!
Surgery 18th July 2006 Manchester Just to keep you guys informed, went yesterday for my check-up, only to be told that I have got 20:20 vision and I am higher than driving standard. Absolutely fantastic. DON;T HESTITATE JUST GO FOR IT.
Well worth doing, it has made a huge difference. Reccommed it!
Clinic Nottingham. Surgery on 19/09/06 Well what can I say? I moaned for the first couple of weeks because I couldn't see properly. It was like blinking over some grit with soap BUT the eyedrops were a blessing. It's now been over 6 weeks since my operation. I was expecting the wow factor on the day of the op but just had to be patient but now all I can say is that its absolutley fantastic. You've got to have it done WOW!! I had Lasek Wavefront (but I was a bit girlie!) A big, big thank you to everyone.
