I had LASEK at ULtralase in St. Albans on 29th December for -6.75 perscription in both eyes. I was advised that I could return to my job as a PA (working all day on a computer in an air conditioned office) within 3 days, although did so on 3rd Jan (5 days later) I had really blurred vision and couldn't hardly see my computer screen although as I was under a lot of pressure at work at the time decided to do what I could (oh how I regret that!) I had my lens bandages removed on day 7 (5th Jan) and my vision then was even blurrier! I asked if I could be doing any damage to my eyes by straining them on the computer and they said that I would just make them tired but nothing else and to take regular breaks. As my husband works at the same company I went straight into the office afterwards (which is how I'd been able to get there, as couldn't see to drive), although, after trying to see my computer for an hour or so, I then suffered flashing lights and a sudden onset of floaters (I am only 31 and hadn't ever seen one before), I have now discovered that I have suffered a partial vitreous detchment, which I fully believe was due to me straining my eyes and causing too much presuure and trauma. I realise that common sense should have told me to stay in bed although when advised by Ultralase that I couldn't actually harm my eyes I foolishly believed them! In addition to this I have had suffered 5 months of extremely dry eyes and blurred vision, which Ultralase have kept advising was Blepharitis and to bathe my eyes, which I have been doing, as well as using artificial tear drops every 30 mins and lacrilube at night. I also have haze and have been on FML and then Maxidex for the past 4 months. I recently decided to see David O,Brart at St. Thomas's for a second opinion who advised that the Blepharitis was minimal and that the contact lens being left in for 7 days was far too long and should've been taken out at 3 days. He said my eyes were so dry they were like open wouunds. He promptly patched up my eyes with an antibiotic cream and asked me to come back within 24hrs, which I did, he then gave me punctul plugs (upper and lower) and asked me to refrain from work and patch the eyes alternately for a week and then come back. I am delighted to say that this worked I now have stable tear film, healed corneas and can see much more clearly without burning. He was also worried about my eye pressures as they were on the high side of normal and told me to stop taking the Maxidex straight away, within a week my eye pressures had returned to normal. He advised that the grade 1 haze should go of its own accord within 6-8 months and steroid drops at this stage would not remove the haze and would only potentially cause Glaucoma or Cataracts. David at all times has been brilliant and I only wish I had know about him to have my LASEK with him in the first place. I should now be happy but am left with the aftermath of the vitreous detachment, with floaters and contstant worry about what this has done to my eyes and the future, will the rest detach? Will I get more floaters? I advise anyone not to go to Ultralse and to not return to working wih computers in air conditioning unless they can see.
