I had contemplated laser surgery for some years but only made the decision to go ahed when my prescription changed, requiring me to wear reading glasses. After spending time researching laser eye treatment, I finally went ahead and had the procedure. My eyes were -1.5 with astigmatisim. I decided on the UltraLASEKplus option at the Hammersmith clinic, with the surgery being carried out by Vinod Gupta. Like many people I was nervous on the day, but there was no need to worry. The operation was painless, the only uncomfortable part is a little bit of pressure on the eyes, but this only lasts for a few seconds. Just had my 3 month appointment, managed the bottom line which is one line below 20/20. my prescription at present is +0.50, hopefully that will settle further from it's initial ( before Laser ) -4.25 left -1.25 right. Now that should give you a clue that i had my right eye lasered in 1991 using the PRK technique> This time i had UltraLASEK plus, it's so similar, they almost got it right in 91, but now the epithelium is saved instead of being thrown away , that way you dont get the hazing and other problems now..... I had my final consultation at St Albans Ultralase clinic on 22/11/05 following treatment on 29/5/04. I had lasek, as I have thin corneas. I now have "better than perfect vision" which is brilliant and have not suffered the problems that I was told I would get, with being 45 when I had the treatment, of needing reading glasses - I can read fine, unless eyes are very tired or very tiny print. I have not had much of the dry eye which was also indicated as highly probable. I do have a little bit of night halo blurring, but it is not too much of a problem, not as bad as with glasses unless very bright lights. I am really scare! I went for a consultation today at Ultralase Clinic in St Albans. I have a lazy eye, but the surgeon says it is OK to have the surgery. When I ask about the risk, he told me that there have been cases reported of not getting the results expected or getting worse than before surgery. As soon as I came back home, went to Ultralase's website and there are lots of people in the forum that have serious problems with their eyes after treatment. I was treated 2 weeks ago by Ultralase in Leeds for what I considered to be quite a mild myopic prescription. However, the outstanding result has made me realise that I was totally reliant on my glasses without realising it. Driving, TV and distance reading are now effortless - better even than with glasses. My corneas were on the boundaries of being too thin for Lasik so I was recommended Lasek which I was very nervous about. Had UltraLasekPlus on wed 21st sept 2005 at Chester. had both eye's treated,vision left eye is exellent a little blurd in the right eye, main irritation is the bandage contact lenses, cant wait to get the right one out , hopefully on monday. The excellent service was apparent from the start when I called the Contact Centre. The staff were friendly and helpful, something which continued throughout the course of my consultations, treatment and aftercare. As far as the treatment is concerned, there was a little pain and discomfort for the first few days, however all was well by the third day. I had surgery at the Chester clinic on the 26th August. Overall I was disappointed with the level of service that I received. The actual procedure went ok and I am left with very good vision in my right eye but not so good vision in my left eye. I feel that this may be down to the fact that the surgeon changed my treatment at the last minute in my left eye from UltraLasik Plus to Ultralasik. I was also told that I could not have an enhancement if need be as my corneas were too thin, completely contradicting the information I was given at the consultation. At the first consultation I was told that I needed LASEK treatment which would initially be more painful but with less chance of problems. When I decided to go ahead I was a bit worried in case any problems occured however all went well on the treatment day. For 44 years I have been as blind as a bat, without glasses. The Ultralase clinic has literally given me my sight back at the age of 54.
