Spent ages on the internet looking at the various options and working to a budget due to a young family and finally opted for Optimax due to the good feedback I read. What a service! Excellent from the moment I walked in the door until I was finally discharged. 20/20 vision means a whole new world for me. Little pain just discomfort. It is nerve-wracking but well worth it. Go for it! Affordable professional treatment means anyone can have it done! Many thanks to Mr Ambrose and his team of staff  More...

Hi all, I have put off laser eye surgery, mainly because of the cost. However today I found out that Optimax now take Tesco clubcard vouchers. How bizzare!!! Now £200 of clubcard vouchers (£800 in deals), will cover the cost of epi-lasek. This is the type I am hoping to be allowed. I am -2.75 & -2.25. I all goes well I will book myself in for the 20th January. Hope this info helps someone. Matt  More...

I had Epi-Lasek at Optimax Leicester by Dr Massilimassi (excuse the spelling). After an impatient few months I have never been happier!! I am afraid of needles so imagine my nerves having this type of procedure carried out. I found the op on ebay and was told I would have to have wavefront because I had enlarged pupils and this would help my night time vision the procedure cost in total £1030 - bargain!! I decided to go for it and have both eyes done even though I was aware that I could suffer quite severe pain, and arranged to stay at my mum's. The procedure itself was excellent, the Dr made me feel at ease and very relaxed, I went home and luckily had no pain and slept for three d ...  More...

Had my laser treatment done at Bristol on 29th November, It started at reading. I had my consultation at reading agreed to go ahead with the treatment and after a BIG BUILD UP they then informed me the laser had broken, could not believe it. They were very good and booked me in at Bristol the next day with the same doctor and even offered to pay for my petrol and parking. I must say it was the most weird, bizarre thing I have ever done. I had the standard lasik with no extras and nobody push me in to anything which was good. The whole process took 15 mins from start to finish and its one of the best things i've had done. Once it was done it was like having shampoo in your eyes and the ...  More...

I had Lasik with wavefront and Intralase on 8th November performed by Dr Quazi at the Manchester Clinic and I can honestly say it is the best thing I've ever done. All the staff at the clinic were fabulous, helpful and very patient with me which really helped with my nerves prior to the surgery. I've been looking into having the surgery for around 5 years now and originally went for a consultation back in 2002, but was told I was unsuitable as I suffered from Herpes around my eyes (never on my eyeball) as a child. This was obviously disappointing but I accepted it and carried on with my lenses and glasses. Then at the end of October I received an offer from Optimax whereby they would gi ...  More...

I had my treatment at the new Brighton Clinic just over a week ago. I honestly cannot believe the result, totally amazing. I had my treatment at 5.45 and by 10.30pm I looked up into the night sky and could see perfectly. I can honestly recommend this treatment to anyone. I had Lasik with Ultralase and Wavefront - after all, it is your eyes we are talking about and I decided to go for the best treatment available. I have my next Consultation in a few days time and I already know that I have 20:20 vision. To finish, all I can say is that I really wish I had done this many years ago. For the first time in 35yrs I am glasses / contact lense free.  More...

After having Lasik and wavefront more than 6 weeks ago I have never been so disappointed. I can only say that you should speak to some of the few % of people it doesnt work for. My vision was -5 in both eyes. It is now -2 in one eye and +2 in the other eye. I have had steroid drops for 6 weeks to try and help the light sensitivity, but I am still unable to drive at night due to headlights. Working is very difficult as I use an ultrasound M/C so I am having to have my scans checked by a junior member of staff. My vision is a blur. I have been re assured that things will get better, I really hope so. I wish I had never had it done.  More...

I had been thinking about Laser eye surgery for a number of years and did a lot of research on the internet, before finally taking the plunge on 04.10.07 at Optimax in Manchester with Dr Boezaart. My vision was -3.5 in booth eyes. As I had lost the ability to read when wearing glasses, I decided to have just one eye corrected, as I could still read without glasses due to being shortsighted. I wore just one contact lens for about a year before treatment in order to get used to this Monovision and then had laser surgery on just one eye. I made an appointment for consultation (free during October) and the treatment was scheduled for the afternoon of the same day. Everything went like clockwork ...  More...

I just thought I would tell you about my experience at Optimax Finchley Rd. Was booked in for Lasik (Femtosecond & Wavefront) on 29/8/07 and made the journey to the clinic only to be told that the femto machine wasn't working!! Obviously I was extremely disappointed as I had been preparing myself all morning (hence technology rating only 4)Was re booked in for the next day at 12.30. Arrived at the clinic and was told there may be a small wait till I was seen. I was eventually called in 3 hours later!!!!Surgery went well and Dr Patel was very nice and kept asking how I was throughout. Had a bandage lens put on my right eye which I had removed the next day. As of today (4 days after ...  More...

I just thought I'd let everyone know about the fantasic treatment I had at Optimax, Manchester. I had Lasik with wavefront, and less than 24hrs later have 20/20 vision. Much better the 3.75 with astigmatism 2.25 and 4.25 with astigmatism 1.25, that I had before. I thought all the staff were really professional and friendly and I would highly recommend Optimax to anyone. I had been to Ultralase and Optical Express and was impressed with both, except that they were really expensive and they attach a person to you. This person, I felt, was a glorified salesman and really pushed the payment side of the treatment. Trying to get me to upgrade ect. At times it was a little uncomfortable. This d ...  More...

I had Epi-Lasek at Optimax in Peterborough in June, My surgeon was Dr Masilimani. I started with a prescription of L -3.25 R-3.50 with slight astigmatism in the right eye. The whole process was very easy and simple, the clinic was clean and comfortable with nice loos and plenty of magazines to read while you wait. The actual surgery was very quick, the most uncomfortable thing about it was the clamp they put on to hold your eyelid open as this was very tight and felt uncomfortable, the actual surgery is painless and you can see everything happening. I asked the doctor in the consultation if he would explain what was happening during the surgery to put me at ease but when it got round to it ...  More...

Having narrowly avoided being overcharged by Optical Express (quote was £3200), I looked around, and from this website, saw that OPtimax was a better deal. I cancelled OPtical Express and made an appointment with OPtimax. Customer service was much better: e.g. spoke clear English, could spell "Stephen" but also they asked the sort of questions OPtical Express didn't. On the day of the op, I had a variety of tests, including from the surgeon himself. He was a very calm man and good at putting people at ease (Mr Patel). He said I didn't need wavefront (which OPtical express tried to make me buy) saving quite a bit. I felt quite looked after. There had been a technician refilli ...  More...

Can't praise the Glasgow clinic and Dr. Anwar well enough. I am about 7 weeks after Epi-lasek. The first 4 days you want to stay in bed and sleep just take your painkillers every 4 hours. After the lenses are taken our on the 4th day you will see a great improvement everytime you wake up. Driving standard after 7-10 days. I have used Co-codamol and Dromadol for pain which worked great. I chose Epi-lasek because I had the time on my hands and really didn't want the flap on my eye that never heals after Lasik! So I opted for more pain and longer recovery (epi-lasek)as opposed to Quick recovery but permanent flap on your eye and so more risk (Lasik). That's why for those that are be ...  More...

I had Lasik Wavefront Intralase at Newcastle on 24 July 2007. I was -2.00 in each eye beforehand. The biggest surprise I had was when the nurse showed me all the bottles of eye-drops I needed to take - there were more than I was expecting - but actually they're not too bad: The eye-drops I had to use were Exocin (antibiotic) 4 times a day for a week and FML (Flourometholone (Anti-inflammatory)) 6 times a day for a week and then 4 times a day for three weeks. I also got Refresh ‘artificial tears’ to use for dry eyes whenever necessary (always first thing in the morning, but otherwise not very often). All of the drops are clear, watery low-concentration drops - not stinging or sticky - ...  More...

I had lasik treatment to both eyes on Monday 23rd July 2007 (which was only 2 days ago). I underwent the treatment at the Birmingham Clinic, the staff and specialists were fantastic. The surgery itself was painless, a little uncomfortable in preparing the eye but the actual laser treatment was painless. The treatment took 20mins in total. I felt discomfort for a couple of hours when the anesthetic wore off, but by mid to late evening I felt much better. I woke up the next day with no problems, I had near perfect sight in the one eye but the other eye was still a little blur. Upon returning to the clinic for my aftercare check later in the day, the bandage lens were removed and I had e ...  More...

I had epi-lasek in March and can honestly say it is the best thing I have done. I found Optimax to be professional, very honest in terms of possible side effects etc and efficient. My surgeon was Mr Patel, who was wonderful - and was honest regarding the pain I would go through etc. At no point did I feel sold to - which after a 'consultation' at Ultralase, which was actually more like a sales pitch, I found most refreshing. My eyes took about 10 days to fully settle, and what a scary 10 days - I thought it had all gone wrong. I had 1 night of pain, 2 days of extreme discomfort and blurry vision for about 5 days. I was discharded yesterday with 20/20 vision. Yippee! NB: I work for th ...  More...

I had my laser surgery at optimax after reading the reviews on this site. They seemed to be the best value for money based on average cost of surgery and customer ratings. I managed to get double discount, which was also great. I had a letter saying a special offer of £400 an eye (Epi-Lasek) was available with £300 extra per eye for wavefront. I also managed to get an ebay discount added, which brought the total cost to £1120 for Epi-Lasek on both eyes including wavefront. Phenomenal value. I had my consulation and surgery on the same day and the surgery took about 10 mins! There was a delay of about an hour running up to it, however. There was no explanation for it but when I finall ...  More...

I had epi lasek at Optimax Glasgow on Monday, 16th July 2007. The surgery itself took all in less than 5 minutes don't get me wrong its not very pleasant but a means to an end. The doc told me i could use my own paracetamol based medication along with the prescription he gave me i asked if cocodamol was ok he said yes so i had no pain whatsoever i am telling the truth - when the anaesthetic wore off about 4 hours later it was hard to open my eyes so i took my sleeping pill and went to bed! I awoke every 4 hrs (during the night don't get me wrong)took my cocodamol and on the Tuesday i was fine looking after my one year old. I had my eyes done at Finnchley Road by Dr. Patel and he was fantastic. Really good bedside manner. Listened carefully to my concerns and took time to explain his answers. Didnt rush me into a decision. As for the procedure, he talked me the whole way through explaining each step. Great man. I had a bumpy 3 months where my eyes took time to heal after Epi-Lasek but at 3 months I had better than 2020 vision. Optimax themselves were really good. On my worried days I would telephone my concerns and someone always phoned me back and took time reassuring me and listening to me.  More...

I had Lasek with wavefront technology at Leeds office on Saturday 23rd June. Eye sight was -2.50 in both eyes. Surgeon Dr Samuel who explained everything and made sure I had done my research. Operation was not pleasant, surreal having eyes scrapped and vision blurring then returning. It did not hurt you just have to ignore the fact someone is scarping your eye. Then the smell of burning 'hair' from the laser as your eyes get zapped! Managed to get home, but I could not find a room dark enough for the next 2 days. After 2 days I could open my eyes a little to see roughly where I was going. Only pain was on days three when the eye drops were put in and it was agony for ...  More...

I would highly recommend Optimax in Glasgow. Has Lasik on 9th July 2007 and touch wood everything has been fine. I had an eye test 24hrs after surgery and went from -6.50 in both eyes to -0.25 already, that was a week ago, and i am looking forward to hopefully and even better result at next weeks aftercare appointment. Dr Anwar was very helpfully (and slightly crazy, in a good way!). Made you feel at ease and really understood the stress you feel. Thank you a hundred times over for the new eyes!  More...

Just an update, three weeks on and i still have no clear vision, my surgeon has been very positive but its really hard, driving, reading, working it affecting all those things, hes asked me to leave it a couple of months to see if it settles, so my summer holidays will be a blur, if no better he will reverse the process, but by laser, not a happy bunny at present.  More...

Had Lasik with intralase & wavefront on 4th of July at Croydon Optimax. Perscription -4.25 &-4.75. Painless experience but I have developed inflammation under the flaps which I was not warned about because it is apparently rare with my mediocre perscription. Pretty blurry and driving difficult with some achyness & soreness apparently due to eye strain. Has anyone else experienced this, as im told it is temporary. Any info greatly received!  More...

I had lasik surgery in September 2006 in aberdeen. There was no pain during or after the surgery and my eyes healed very quickly and I now have 20/20 vision. It might be because Iam only in my 20's that it worked so well, but I would recommend this to everyone who is thinking about having this done.  More...

Epi-lasek + wavefront on 27 June 2007 at Bristol Optimax. Surgeon: Dr Slazus. Prescription: -2.25 in right eye; -2.00 in left. Thorough consultation, no hard-sell. The surgery itself was not painful just uncomfortable and the laser noise plus burning smell is off-putting. Quite painful when the anaesthetic wore off - first night was bad, but then lessened. Very cloudy vision the following few days. Have just been for second checkup and am long-sighted in both eyes. Apparently this is 'normal' at this stage. Don't feel I could drive safely at the moment as the difference in vision between both eyes distorts everything. Also, wasn't expecting near vision to be terrible. It&# ...  More...

I had the implant in my right eye July 2003 and my left Spetember 2003. Both procedures were done by Prof/Dr Ventor (where is he now? also Debbie from the Finchley clinic) who was brilliant as was all the aftercare check-ups. I had one small problem, about three/four weeks after the procedure on my right eye it started weeping, thought i had an infection. I telephoned the Croydon clinic and explained what was wrong, i was advised that they would get in touch with Prof/Dr Ventor (who was in South Africa at the time doing a lecture) and call me back which they did within the hour. I went to the Croydon clinic the next day to pick up some different eye drops and had an appointment with Prof ...  More...

I had my treatment (Intralase Lasik with Wavefront) on Friday 22nd June at the Birmingham Surgery. My Doctor (Dr Masilamani) was very helpful, talking me through the procedures and which would be best suited to me. Once we had agreed upon the procedure which was best suited I was shown a short video of the procedure, I was also given the opportunity to ask questions. I arranged to have the treatment on the same afternoon. The only slightly negative thing I would say about Optimax is be prepared to be in the clinic a long time. My appointment for surgery was delayed by nearly two hours, in my case this worked in my favour as it helped to calm my nerves a little but I can understand ho ...  More...

I had the Epi-lasek surgery due to taking part in contact sport. Dr Malissanami (Birmingham) did mine and I found him very honest about everything from the very start, if a little laid back! In my opinion the reason this clinic has a lower average rating than the other market leaders in because they are the only one to offer Epi- lasek cheaper than Lasek. Obviously Lasek is more painful so people give lower scores in view of that. I won't lie about the recovery - its not so much the intensity of the pain as the fact that it won't go away, and none of the medication seems to help that much. You WILL need someone to look after you for the first 24 hours to cook your food and put your d ...  More...

I had lasik done a couple of months ago and whole-heartedly recomment dr osman at optimax aberdeen clinic. I went for their limited half price special offer. They were very upfront with me and honest and I felt confident in putting all my trust in their capable hands. Everything was laid back, done at my own pace and very informative. I was impressed with the reassurance and suitability of treatment. I felt very comfortable when I was advised that they had turned people away because they were unsuitable. "Girls have begged dr osman to do the surgery and cried when he said no" I knew of the risks, dry eyes, surgical complications but when I thought about it; going on a plane has it's risk ...  More...

I had Lasik and wavefront in both eyes in Aberdeen on 30th May. I was -3.00 and -3.25 with astigmatism. My left eye is not quite 20/20 but my right is. I have been told it takes a few months to settle down, but combined they are 20/20. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Dr Osman was very informative. The procedure was pain free. The procedure is just slighlty uncomfortable but so quick. The eye clamps are the strangest things. No pain afterwards. Was out and about the next day for flight back to London. My recommendation, if you are suitable then have it done. I am typing at the moment without glasses. It is brilliant to be able to drive without glasses or to be able to look in to a co ...  More...

Thanks to eBay - had my surgery 11th May at Croydon clinic, which I would highly recommend. Had to have epi-Lasik & wavefront which was more painful than expected (had to take week off work to recover) but vision is now brilliant. Left eye 20/20 - Right eye still a bit "hazy" but getting better every day! Would highly recommend Optimax and Croydon clinic.  More...

I too had my surgery at Bristol on Friday 13th April and went for my check up yesterday. I was -8 in both eyes pre op so effectively I was blind however yesterday I was told I now have 20/20 vision whch was great to hear. I had trouble with my left eye not healing as fast as my right but after 3 weeks everything was fine. To be told I had 20/20 was the icing on the cake! I would recommend this to anyone but remind them they will need to be patient with regards to the results.  More...

I had Lasik with femto and wavefront, on April 19th. 6 weeks later, things are going well, however my left eye vision is not quite the same as my right - bit like there is a thin layer of film over it. If I could peel it off, all would be great. In bright light conditions, its all good, but in low light, or darknes, it is all still quite blurry. Also no sign of the halos and starburst around car or street lights subsiding yet. Would really like to hear from anyone else who is as frustrated as I am. On the whole I'm very happy, I guess I'm just a little impatient ! LOL  More...

Had Lasik Wavefront on Friday 13th April (yes I know!) at Bristol with Dr Saeed. Consultation went well Dr Saeed is very pleasant and went through the produce with me and confirmed what treatment he thought best, he didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need and answered all my questions and reassured me. I previously went for a consultation at Optical Express and this was a totally different story, didn’t see the doctor who would perform the operation and the chap I did see was very hard sell and made me feel very uneasy about the whole thing. Had the operation at 7.15pm on the same day as the consultation was supposed to be three hours earlier but things were running late (this is ...  More...

Dr Masilamani, my surgeon was fabulous, he put me at ease straight away and made me laugh in the consultation! Unfortunately the receptionist was extremely insensitive when an issue arose on the day and if it hadn't been for the fact that I liked the doctor so much, I probably wouldn't have gone ahead with it because of her. In response to the migraine query, I suffer from focal aura migraines and have had lasik surgery (about 1 month ago now) with no ill effects. I have taken sumitriptan before although I have never found it to be too effective. At no point was I asked about migraines, although I was asked about medication. As I take the sumitriptan quite imfequesntly I didn't mention it. I think that might have been fool hardy. I think this is one of the situations where if you're thinking about getting surgery, you should go for the consult and ask the doctor.  More...

I had Lasik at London Optimax clinic about 3 years ago. i got a 2 for 1 deal which is why it only cost me £750 (1500 between the 2 of us). I am looking at the forum at the moment as my son is coming up to 18 and is desperate to get rid of his glasses. I noticed on here that quite a few people on here are scared that because Optimax seem to have lots of offers all the time that you get lower quality treatment. All i can say is that I, (and the other 2-4-1), were extremely impressed with everything about our surgery , after care etc etc, and my eyes have been great ever since, and about 1 hours discomfort the day of the op. when i got home. The greatest testamant that i could give them is th ...  More...

Had my Consultation at the Glasgow clinic yesterday 16th May with Dr Anwar who is absolutely superb. My prescription is -9.25 and -8.50 with astigmatism but it turns out that my Cornea is too thin (513 and 515)this making the procedure too risky so I will not be able to have 20/20 vision but my prescription will be improved by 6D on the 5th of June with Epi Lasek which sounds great to me. It also turns out that Dr Anwar treated my grandmother in 1996 for 2 years on the NHS due to various vision problems and both my Grandmother and Mother have nothing but praise for the man and they say I am in very very good hands with a Dr who has treated over 8000 eyes. Very friendly staff who take time ...  More...

Had Lasik Wavefront at Optimax, Aberdeen 3 weeks ago. Even though clinic is not the most modern, the staff were excellent. Dr Osman was very professional and reassured me throughout the procedure. My sight is very good although my left eye is still a bit unsettled but Dr Osman assures me this will settle. I so wish I'd taken the plunge years ago!  More...

I booked in to the Reading Clinic due to Southampton not being available on the dates I could take off work. Had the initial check up in the morning and was booked in for 15.45. Due to a computer problem I finally went in at 18.00hrs, but having waited for several years before plucking up the courage to get it done this wasn't really an issue. Was prepared for the clamps, suction cups and burning smell after reading comments posted on this forum. Was a bit strange having swabs going over my eye but not being able to feel it. Dr Ayoubi was superb, he could have made an additional £600 - £800 out of me but his suggestions where spot on. Went for Lasik with no thrills and it is amazin ...  More...

I had Epi-Lasik at the Glasgow clinic 5 days ago and am delighted so far with the results. I had been considering getting laser treatment for the last 4 years and finally decided to do it. I previously had a consultation with Optical Express but was not impressed at all and was quoted almost £3,000. I felt Optical Express was all about making money. I did not feel like that about Optimax at all. I was treated by Dr Anwar who I was really impressed with. As he is not an employee of Optimax he is not interested in the money side of things, he recommends the best procedure for your eyes. I was not suitable for Lasik as my corneas were too thin and Dr Anwar did not think I would benefit f ...  More...

I had epi-lasek on March 28th at the Finchley Road, London branch. I bought it on e-bay which saves a load of money and gives you exactly the same service. My prescription was -2.0 in both eyes. The clinic is fairly basic. They don't spend a stack on furniture, paint or decent coffee that's for sure! It kind of has the feel of being the easyjet of eye surgery. They do a few eye tests first and these were fine up until the optometrist, who was a pleasant enough guy but often didn't seem to know what he was talking about and was bluffing some of the answers to my questions (including contradicting some of the stats in their own brochure). If I had had to make a decision whether to ...  More...

following my message of 5th April it is now one month on and I have near perfect vision!! I opted to have mono vision which takes longer to adjust and I was very worried the first two weeks but everything Dr Ayoubi promised has happened so I would def recommend Optimax and Dr Ayoubi! Having laser treatment is a bigger decision than I first realised and is an emotional journey as well as a physical one so make sure you have someone with you for the first few days and don't panic if your sight is blurry for at least a week after Epi-Lasik.  More...

I did a lot of research before going for surgery but I had Epi-Lasek with Wavefront on Friday 13th April at Bristol Optimax and I'm very pleased. Yes, I did have to wait around a lot on the day, but I was told that this is because it takes longer for them to deal with patients who can't have the surgery (they want to know exactly why they can't have it, etc.) I couldn't have Lasik because my corneas were too thin but, although I had wanted Epi-Lasik anyway, because it is a safer op, I was unprepared for the severity of the pain for the first 3 days. I literally couldn't leave a darkened room, with sunglasses on, for the first 24 hours and went through 24 extra streng ...  More...

I had LASIK carried out at the Optimax clinic in Glasgow last Monday (30th April) by Dr Anwar. My prescription was -3.75 and -5 with slight astigmatism in both eyes. I checked this forum before I went and was slightly worried by the lack of info on the Glasgow clinic. I went ahead anyway (maybe not too sensible!) and it was all fine. The worst thing about the whole thing was the wait. I had my consultation at 9am and then the surgery at about 3pm which meant a lot of time to worry in between. When it came to it Dr Anwar and the assistants made me feel at ease. He talked all the way through and explained exactly what was going on. It took about 20 mins I think, which passed really qui ...  More...

After thinking about laser eye surgery since I knew of its existance, I saw the ebay offer and decided to go for it..... I saw Dr Boezaart at the Manchester clinic yesterday and am typing this review with almost perfect vision!! I went for Lasik (as I was too scared to try the epi-lasek!!). I listened to the optometrist talking about wavefront and femto but decided just to go for standard lasik as its at least £600 cheaper! I had my consultation and treatment on the same day and, when it came round to my turn - I was petrified and was thinking if I should tell the nice receptionist that ive made a mistake and cant go through with it. I stuck to it and spoke to Dr Boezaart (I ha ...  More...

Pre-op prescription: -0.7 Left, -0.8 Right, with astigmatism in both eyes. I had bi-lateral femtosecond Lasik Wavefront, on Thurs 19 Apr at Optimax Southampton, with Dr Ayoubi. Having suffered from ridiculously short sight for more years than I can remember, losing my glasses in a freak wave while in Spain last year gave me the motivation to get my eyes zapped. I had the treatment done last Thursday and have since had a good chuckle remembering the process after reading various posts on here before hand (the dreaded eye clamps, the burning smell .. sound familiar ?). The following 4 hours after surgery were extremely uncomfortable - felt like I had been jabbed in the eyes with raw ch ...  More...

I had Lasik surgery with Wavefront in both eyes on Friday 13th April at Bristol clinic. I put off the treatment for years but eventually there was 10 days between the initial call and the surgery. I would recommend this treatment to anyone, especially those who are really short sighted. I was -8 in both eyes so I really couldnt live without my contacts. The staff at Bristol were outstanding, although 2 had been borrowed from Brighton for the day. The surgeon I had was Dr Saeed who put me at ease straight away and kept talking to me throughout the treatment. If I had 1 complaint it would be the time keeping. I had read a lot of comments about it and I was no exception. I was due in first at ...  More...

I went for a consulation at Optimaxs Finchley Road, London clinic and I was quite impressed. I felt no sales pressure and they seemed very thorough (even meeting a surgeon allegedly). However, they did not recommend me for treatment due to large pupils combined with a poor prescription. I appreciated their honesty. I have since had the procedure done with another company which does ask the question as to whether optimax's surgeons/equipment are as good as other clinics, or whether it is just that other clinics arent as careful/conservative as optimax? However, I was assured by 3 other clinics that I was a suitable candidate and so have gone ahead.  More...

I had Lasik with Wavefront on Tuesday (17th April 2007) and was surprised how easy it was. Optimax Ipswich staff were welcoming and friendly. Dr Almasri was very good. My vision after 24 hours was great. I do think that in this case you get what you pay for - Lasik may be more expensive but you don't need the painkillers!  More...

In response to the query posted by Judith on 14/4 I had the same surgery as you on 8th December 2006 in Leeds. My prescription was -7.5 with astigmatism in both eyes. Basically I was as blind as a bat!! All I can say to you is this - it's the best money I've ever spent! The surgery was a breeze, everything went brilliantly. Please don't be nervous about it. My eyesight was at driving standard the morning after (less than 24 hours later) and has continued to improve ever since. It's truly amazing. I hope this helps you. When I posted my original query on here no-one responded and I was quite disappointed by that so hopefully this will help to put your mind at rest ...  More...

It's now been over a month and a half since I had Wavefront Lasik surgery carried out by Dr Madhusudhan at Optimax Liverpool. I was suitable for both types of surgery but I'd already decided on the Lasik option, less pain, quicker recovery, it was only the thought of cutting a flap which was freaking me out. The surgeon recommended Wavefront and explained that it would benefit my night vision. After reading numerous reviews of Dr Madhu telling people it wouldn't benefit them it was good to know that he wasn't just after extra cash :) The Surgery was quick and fairly painless. In total it probably only took 20mins. Dr Madhu doesn't have much of a bedside manner but ...  More...

I had lasik treatment for long sight just over a month ago at Leeds (Dr. Samuel) - prescription +2.00 +1.25. Unfortunately I think I may have been over-corrected and am now short sighted. I can see close up and read very well but everything in the distance is still blurry. Unfortunately I wasn't driving standard until a friend gave me some of her glasses so I can now drive. I am worried that my distance vision will not come back - I was told I would still need reading glasses (which I was fine about) but I didn't want to have to wear them every day for driving, distance, etc. Has anyone else been treated for long sight and had a similar experience to mine?  More...

I had Lasik last October. My contact lens prescription used to be -3.5. Cannot compliment optimax enough - the ONLY problem I had was immediately after the surgery, I was sent back to 'recover' in the waiting room. I'd certainly recommend Optimax to anyone considering laser eye surgery. If you do go for it, I managed to make a significant saving by buying through ebay to the amusement of many of my friends!  More...

Day 8 - I can see although very close to Driving Standard I'm waiting till next aftercare appointment before I drive. It is imperative that you use the antibiotic eye drops and to stop dry eyes the refresh drops regularly. The biggest problem is dry eyes at night keep them lubricated. I asked for a brochure on-line and I had it within two days (positive point). It stated that you have to pay for the consultancy (£60.00), but it is done with a surgeon so I though it was worth having it (positive point). Then I received am email offering me 1/2 price for consultation and up to £310 for lasik if I booked consultation before the end of the month. I though that it was really commercial but I went ahead and booked an appointment (mitigated opinion) I live in Edinburgh, so the nearest clinic in Glasgow. Also, I can have free check-up at the Glasgow clinic or go to an independent optometrist in Edinburgh who will charge me around £20.00.Quite a bit annoying... (Bad point) ...  More...

Obviously this has left me rather upset as i can see better than i have in years but not enough to drive without glasses. I have been told to wait for improvements but in the meantime what do i do about driving?? Also it wasnt until i made my appointment that i discovered it cheaper on ebay. I was dissapointed about this because you have to be unknown to optimax so my treatment has cost £2980 and so far been unsuccesful and many others have paid a lot less with perfect results. Surgery date 14/02/07.prescription -2.50 both eyes with asigmatism. Treatment: Lasik with femtosecond at Birmingham. I have been considering treatment for a couple of years. The crunch came when I dropped my brand new £100+ glasses on the floor and they chipped - I booked the treatment the next day! I got a negotiated teacher's discount of 30%. On the day both the surgeon (Dr Qazi)and optician were both very patient as they talked me through the treatment. It was useful to have my husband be allowed to come into the consultant room as I was too nervous to take all of the information in myself! The girls in reception could have been a little more friendly and helpful as I felt like ...  More...

I don't usually contribute to forums but having read Emma's "truth about laser eye surgery" posted on 15 March I felt that I had to tell my "truth" as well. I went to Optimax in Belfast for a consultation on Thursday 11 January 2007 at 11.00am. I had already been to Optical Express and had been told that I wasn't suitable for Lasik (corneas too thin) but that I should have have Epi-Lasek treatment with Wavefront, at a total cost of £2,300. Having done my research before going to Optimax, for a second opinion, I was more than happy to agree (if suitable and if I was content to proceed) to have the laser surgery done at 2.00pm on the day of my consultation. It was reassuring tha ...  More...

Right eye -2.25, Left eye -1.50 with astigmatism. Received Lasik treatment from Dr Hynes on 21.03.07 at Manchester clinic. Found the treatment to be uncomfortable but not painful and I did come out of the treatment room feeling slightly shakey. Slept for three hours when I got home and did everything I was told to do, no tv etc. Nextday I could see everything and I mean "everything", no pain just amazement. Dr Hynes is a good doctor and I chose this clinic for his and Dr Doyles skills. I certainly have no regrets. My vision 3 days after op is better than 20.20. I have been wearing contact lenses/glasses for 20 years, and was short sighted -3.75 and -4.50, so I couldn't see without one or the other. After looking into lazer eye surgery, and after doing lots of research, I decided to have Lasik with wavefront and Femtosecond.I booked the surgery for the 1st December 2006 at the finchley Rd Clinic - London, with Dr Patel. Yes, I was very nervous about the whole thing, but was re-assured by a lady in the toilets who said you will never regret it. The only downside of day was the waiting time, that perticular day the clinic had experienced software problems, which caused all the appointments to run late, 1.5hrs to be precise. When I was finally ...  More...

There were a few delays on the day, I was booked in for 14:30 but my surgery didn't start until 15:45. I was called into the treatment room and lay in the dentist style chair between the two laser machines (the Femtosecond and the lasik laser... the gap between the two isn't very wide so mind your head). The numbing drops were put in my eyes and the eye-lid clip (which stop you blinking) was fitted, then the suction ring was applied to my left eye - ...  More...

I had a consultation at Finchley Rd, London this weekend and was told to re-do a test AFTER my eyes had been numbed and dilated. I'm worried this may have affected my results and could possible do harm when I have my actual treatment done this coming Friday. The test I re-did was the one where you looked at a balloon and then red circles flashed in both eyes. Does anyone know if this is normal (to have a test done after your eyes are numbed & dilated) or if it could have had an adverse effect on the results?  More...

The truth about laser eye surgery. Day 1, weds 7th march. I arrived at optimax in ipswich at just gone 10am, a little early for my appointment, but better to be early than late. I was seen pretty quickly which I was really pleased about, i was rather nervous so I wanted to get this over and done with. After the lady took a few pictures of the inside of my eye I was ushered back into to waiting room where I would "shortly have some more tests done" 1 and half hours later I was called for the next tests where I was told I would be suitable for epi-lasek and advised to have wavefront too. "great", I thought, and couldn't wait till 4pm to get them done. So, 4 pm came and went and I f ...  More...

I had Femto Wavefront LASIK yesterday with Dr. Patel at the London clinic. I was -7.25 in both eyes +.50 astigmatism. I have left a message in the General and Surgeon forums too, but in short, this was the best £2400 I have ever spent! The clinic staff were great, Dr. Patel a pleasure to talk to, the surgery was completely pain-free (if a little uncomfortable)and 4 hours later I watched the telly, answered emails and returned back to normal life! Today, less than 24 hours post-op, my vision is completely clear and all I am wishing for is that I had it done earlier!! I did do a lot of research beforehand, and this site was invaluable in helping me make up my mind. I had a consultati ...  More...

I had LASIK surgery to both eyes almost eaxactly a year ago at the Southampton Clinic by Dr Ayoubi. Went for my final check up last week, then discharged. Very pleased with the results, (see previous postings) I have better than 20:20 having been -6 and -5.5 with some astigmatism. It has made my everyday life a lot easier no "faffing about" with contacts and switching from presciption glasses to sunglasses. I am a keen birder using binoculars/ telescopes and microscopes at work, my "new eyes" have been a great asset for my hobby and made work easier. Best £1400 I ever spent. Dr Ayoubi was excellent, the reception staff/nurses less so, but the surgen is the most important person in the cl ...  More...

Optimax, Birmingham I have to warn anyone that is considering having laser eye surgery not to go into the process lightly! I really didn't think about what having laser surgery would involve until the day I turned up at the clinic, I really wish I had considered it more than I did. Before I had laser eye surgery my prescription was -4.5 and -4.75 and I also had astigmatism. I researched laser eye surgery on the internet and decided that as Optimax seemed to be the cheapest, I would go with them-not the best way to decide the fate of your eyesight. I made the appointment for about 6 weeks time and then didn’t really think about it. A few days before the treatment I had to r ...  More...

To be honest I would not recommend Optimax Bristol. My experience has been less than enjoyable and the complications, pain, administrative problems and time spent off work mean that I wish I had stuck to glasses / lenses. Whilst the results have been pretty good (-3.5 and -3 astigmatism) down to nearly 20:20 - the journey, starting in September last year, has not been an enjoyable one. I could easily list 25+ problems (some ongoing) that I have suffered and I get the feeling that the place is falling to pieces with surgeons/staff leaving. I could go on for hours but don't wish to send everyone to sleep. For a place performing such important work you would expect more professionalism, bet ...  More...

Had my Laser Eye Surgery done by Dr Malcolm S Samuel Epi Lasek with wavefront treatement at end of October 2006 at Leeds Clinic. I researched not that thoroughly but wanted to do it for a long time, information on day was quite sparce but as I knew everything it was cool. Asked a few question about the OP, Does it hurt? How long will it take? What’s the aftercare? Etc all were answered. The Doc recommended Wavefront for night-time driving, great will do. I must point out I have a big phobia about anything going near my eyes (i.e. can’t touch my eye, cant wear contact lenses at ALL!) Went through procedure, crapped it a lot but came out like a Butterfly. Pain not all that bad, just sti ...  More...

I had lasik surgery done by Dr Doyle on 28 September 2006. From the first time I met him at my consultation I felt a ease with him. He explained everything fully (even though a lot of it was a bit technical and went over my head)!! On the day of the surgery I was very nervous (so nervous that I had two double vodkas before I went in)! The actual operation was not enjoyable, it didnt hurt, it was just very bizzare. As soon as the op was over I knew I could see, which to me was a miracle as my prescription was -8.50 and -7.50 so to be able to see was very emotional. I went for my final check up on 9 December and was discharged with 110% vision in my right eye and driving standard in the left ...  More...

I had Lasik performed on Friday 26th January at the Optimax Southampton clinic. I have been short sighted for 15 years and now wore contact lenses all the time. My prescription was right eye was -6.50 with an astigmatism of -0.25 and my left -6.25. It wasnt until six months ago when i washed my contact lenses down the sink that i realised how blind i was and something needed to be done! I purchased my treatment via E-bay for £1185 for both eyes using the Lasik procedure. Needless to say i was a bundle of nerves for a week prior to the operation and having my doubts. I had Epi-Lasek with Wavefront at the Finchley Rd clinic with Dr Patel on 1st Dec 2006. I was expecting to have Lasik so I was surprised and pleased when the dr recommended the cheaper one for me. The treatment was almost painless, but uncomfortable. It took me a little over half an hour to get home, by which time the anaesthetic was wearing off and I was in some degree of pain in my left eye. An hour later I was in agony. My left eye swelled up, was bright red, weeping constantly, and was so painful I had to sit in the dark with every light in the house off, no TV, blackout curtains drawn, AND sunglasses on, and it was still too bright. I had to take the sleeping tablet they gave me on ...  More...

I had bi-lateral epi-lasek treatment at Birmingham Optimax in March 2006. I was about -1.75 in each eye with a bad astigmatism. I was seen and treated by Andre Obersholster. Andre was helpful and honest during the consultation, agreeing that he was able to achieve 20/20 vision with epi-lasek rather than lasik. Treatment wasn’t as bad as expected, except he didn’t put enough anaesthetic in the first eye so I felt them scraping off the surface. The second eye was fine because I’d piped up and asked for more as it hurt. An unpleasant operation, but it was only 15 minutes start to finish. Very satisfying to smell your eyes burning. It felt like getting good value for money… The three ...  More...

I had epi lasek on 10th jan and it was the best thing i've ever done!! The clinic were great as was Dr Materman. Procedure was COMPLETELY PAINLESS and quick, not as bad as the dentist. First 24 hours after were fine, just mild gritty sensation then between 24 and 48 hours my eyes were unfortable and had some difficulty opening them. I spent most of this time asleep or listening to radio or audio books. After the pain went each day my sight has been getting better and better!! everyday i wake up and open my eyes and can't believe what i can see! i did a lot of research and was very nervous about having it done but it is amazing ( and as i'm only 2 weeks after my treatment i've ...  More...

I had fetmo lasik at the Bristol clinic yesterday with Dr Materton Apart from a few minor problems I am now over the moon! The staff at Bristol were very courteous but some of them seemed to be very new. I suppose everyone has to start somewhere! I was booked in after the normal consultation in the morning for 2.30pm for bi-lateral treatment. Dr Materton is spot on and I would recommend him to anybody. He even saved me money by not recommending that I had wavefront done! I eventually got in the treatment room at 4.05 pm. The clinic had been struck down with a computer problem and the printer cartridge ran out and so they couldn't print any lables! My prescription was -3.75 an ...  More...

Epi-lasek at Bristol on 22nd November, procedure was painless much easier than expected.(Prescription was -2.75 + astigmatism in both eyes) Had fairly severe pain from the bandage lenses and was glad to have them removed on the 25th. Nearly touched the ceiling with pain when I awoke in that night, as my right eye had stuck to my eyelid. Should have been offered eye gel to prevent this. Just visited clinic for first check up and am slightly long sighted with astigmatism but told this is normal and can take upto three months for best vision. Slower recovery than expected but no regrets.  More...

It's now 18 months since I received corrective eye surgery, and can honestly say that it is one of the most gratifying things I have ever done. From the first consultancy to the completion of the work I was looked after extremely professionally and was made to feel at ease throughout. My eyesight is absolutely superb and is better than 2020. I can't praise the staff at Optimax in Croydon highly enough. Paul Childs, Rainham Kent  More...

had epi-lasek at the liverpool clinic on 21 oct 06 and it is the best thing i have ever done. First 24 hours were not painful for me. i would say more uncomfortable and definately like peeling lots of onions as previous people have described. The next couple of days eyes were sensitive to light but by weds much better. I returned to work after one week but really should have taken another week off as my job involves alot of computer work. The worse thing i found was the endless amount of drops you have to use - a pain but you get used to it. Epi-lasek is slow in getting perfect vision. it took 6 weeks for my eyes to totally feel 100% but be patient you will get there. 10 weeks on my eyes are ...  More...
