I chose the LASEK eye laser surgery option. This was the cheaper of the 2 different operations. However before I had the operation I had a prescription of -3.50 dioptres in one eye and -3.00 dioptres in the other, so I was quite short sighted. On the day of the operation everything was fully explained to me by the surgeon including how long the procedure would take and also all of the benefits of having the surgery. Now after the surgery which took a total of 15 minutes to complete, I can see as clear as a whistle and my vision is back to 20/20. This is the best £1000.00 I have ever spent. I would recommend OPTIMAX to anyone who is considering having treatment. I know you may think the price ...  More...

I had both my eyes treated at the Glasgow clinic (can't remember the surgeons name, sorry). The treatment was very fast, with mild discomfort. I experienced very little pain post-treatment and apart from the antibiotic drops did not require any further 'relief' drops. My sight improvement was very impressive and very quick [I was 6/4 in both eyes, unaided, after 3 weeks]. I am now pursuing a career in the police force. I would recommend LASIK treatment to anybody [my father has now had his eyes treated as a result].  More...

I had Epi-lasik on 4 Nov 2005 at Croydon with Dr Hoe. He was very nice and made me feel relaxed. The staff were lovely and held my hand during the procedure. Shame I cant say the same about the reception staff. My eyes were -4.75 & -5.00. It was quite uncomfortable having it done not nice at all but not painful. It felt alot longer than 15 mins, but then when you counting it always does. Its such a strange feeling when your having it done because they put these drops in your eyes so its all blurry like your under water, so you never can focus on what he is doing. It was no where near as bad as I expected. It goes really blurry when they take the flap off your eye. The laser made me jump a ...  More...

After speaking to the helpdesk to book the consultation, being told I was an "ideal candidate" with my prescription (-3.25 in both eyes), and then paying my £60, I was very optimistic and really looking forward to having the treatment, despite reading the rather painful experiences of others! However, after only 5 minutes with the consultant at the Optimax clinic in Leicester, my enthusiasm disappeared completely. Unfortunately I didn't get the consultant’s name, mainly due to the fact that she was so downright rude! She came out of her room, called my name and as I approached her to say simply "pleased to meet you" she ignored me, turned away muttering something which sounded like h ...  More...

I had gone to Manchester Optimax through convenience as I had relatives nearby, I am 39 years old. Excellent customer care. Staff friendly and helpful. Dr Hynes was wonderful& very honest. Great having the same doctor from consultation to surgery. I had Epi Lasek as Lasik not suitable - only mild discomfort for 24 hours max then fine. could see practically straight away - wonderful !! Can see better than most my friends now! Feel like I have x-ray vision! Should have done it years ago especially with the interest free! My follow up appointments now show me as having 20/20 vision ! A big thank you..  More...

EPI-LASEK I saw Dr Ayoubi at the Ipswich branch on Wed 16th Nov. Very charming and calm surgeon. After the consultation, had EPI-LASEK treatment after 1/2 hour. No pain and the surgeon talked all through the op, very re-assuring. 1st Night, lots of pain and kept up all night. I even tried to sleep upright on the sofa in the living room but still kept on waking up. Painkillers and sleeping pills did not work at all. 2nd Day, eyes watering a little less but the painkillers eventually worked. Listened to a lot of radio, which was probably the reason as to why I went to sleep at 8pm and woke up 8am. A good sleep due to lack of sleep the night before. Left eye functioning a lot better t ...  More...

I am a 60 year old male living near Alton, Hants who has been promising himself laser eye surgey to correct poor(ish) long distance vision (-3.25 thingies in each eye) for years. Finally, with my 60th just behind me and armed with a personal recommendation from a recent acquaintance, I started the ball rolling. I searched the web site, phoned the call centre and got a consultation for the Southampton office on 15 Nov 05. From the supplied literature I was a bit confused as to what I should be aiming for. I really felt that correcting both eyes was a logical route and that Lasik would be the best treatment. Why? To be honest I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, late Tuesday afternoon I met wi ...  More...

I had Lasik in Southampton on 28th October with Mr Ayoubi. My prescription was -6.75 and -7.00 with astigmatism. Mr Ayoubi was brilliant, very professional and confident. The operation didn't hurt a bit and straight afterwards I was delighted that I could see the Exit sign, and people at the other end of the room. By the middle of the following morning though I was quite alarmed that my vision had gone blurry although speaking to some friends who had the same experience reassured me a bit. At my aftercare appointment a week later my eyesight had improved a bit. It is now nearly 2 weeks later and I am pleased to say my eyesight seems to be improving every day. I have been told I have driv ...  More...

I am attending the Glasgow Optimax clinic at the end of November for my consultation with Mr Anwar and then the treatment is scheduled for 17th December, so I have the Christmas break to recover. I am having bi-lateral treatment and my husband has major concerns about the possible complications for having both eyes treated at the same time, the biggest fear being blindness and not having the ability to work again and the fact that insurance companies don't cover Elective Surgery. I am 31 and have worn glasses and contacts for 16 years and would welcome not having to wear glasses again until much later in life. However if after having treatment, I still had to wear glasses even if my pres ...  More...

Hi all. I recently had epi-lasek on both eyes at the Birmingham clinic on my 50th birthday, 15th October 05. Today (29th Oct), I have just returned from my 2nd after-care appointment and my vision is better than 20/20. After listening to advice given to me during my consultation, because of my age, and because of my need to see close up stuff ( do a lot of fishing), I opted for the mono-vision option, where one eye is undercorrected. What fantastic results! I have to say though, the first 24hrs were agony! I found it impossible to sleep even with a couple of strong painkillers and the pills given me to help me sleep! But I persevered with the antibiotic drops and the other dr ...  More...

I made an entry earlier this month but things have gone downhill. I went for another review last week and new prescription is -2.00 in right eye and -1.75 in the left eye. Had to go to my optician who confirmed the above prescription. Got my new glasses today, so much about me thinking that I had gotten rid of my glasses. Nicki, if it's any consolation, after my epi lasek I couldn't drive for over a week so don't worry too much. I spent the time going for walks, resting or going shopping on public transport! I found that gradually my sight improved. I didn't drive til day 8 but it probably wasn't all that brilliant then. I think it was towards the end of week 2 before i felt confident that I could see where I was going. Stick with it, but do contact whichever clinic you went to for advice meanwhile  More...

well, things have gone downhill for me since the last time i made an entry here earlier this month.I went for a review a couple of days ago and was told that my eyesight has now deteriorated to -2.5 in right eye and -1.75 in the left.Imagine the dissapointment! They gave me some eye drops to use for 3 weeks, apparently these are mearnt to stop the deterioration. So i had to take a trip down to my optician who confirmed the above reading and so its back to glasses for me from next week.I wont lie, i am gutted to say the least, i had been telling everyone about the treatment but now some are not so sure after the experience i am now going through. I had my Epi-Lasik treatment back in April 2005, I live in Belgium, and I attended the Birmingham Clinic, which I have to say are very professional, the treatment was totally painless, but during the following 3 days, I did experience some discomfort, when my "bandages" were removed, the pain and discomfort went immediately. My eyesight is perfect, and if you are considering laser treatment by Optimax, I recomend them 100%, to prove this my daughter had her eyes lasered too, and my son is next. A mother would not recomend anything to her children, unless she was totally satisfied, which I am. Thankyou Optimax.  More...

Had epi lasek last saturday 15th October, I feel I was given the best case scenario - 5 days on i am struggling to see the PC monitor, and my eyesight is still poor so cannot drive, watch tv or carry on my normal activities, the Consultant advised me most people have eyesight good enough to drive by day 3 when the lenses are taken out, my eysight was worse than immediately after the op. I cannot begin to explain the anguish this has caused me over the last few days, I will post again to let you know how the progress is, but be warned my experience has made me realise how precious your sight is.  More...

Hi, I had epi-lasek (monovision)at southampton with Mr Ayoubi on 1st October. my left eye didn't need undercorrecting so my right eye was fully corrected. Mr Ayoubi is extremely experienced (his profile is on their website). I am a big wimp who hates even getting an eyelash in my eye but Mr Ayoubi puts your mind at rest. He explains what he is doing as he goes along so you know what to expect. the first 12 hours were the worst but not all that bad really. I've had worse trips to the dentist! My right eye is at 20/20 so it's just a case of getting used to the monovision which Russell said could take a bit longer. feel free to pm me.  More...

Hi! I am having a consultation in the Manchester Optimax clinic soon. I have -6.75 in each eye, so this means I am only eligible for Epi-Lasek, is this correct? Is Epi Lasek the one that is supposed to be more painful, but have fewer side effects? (Sorry for being dim, but I am finding this all so confusing, with so much contradictory information!)  More...

I've just had lasik surgery on Oct 6th. The procedure was performed by Dr Esselaar and I had no pain whatsoever throughout the procedure, although it was commented that the astigmatism was so bad in each eye, they were the strangest shape he had ever seen. My prescription was -8 so my eyesight was very poor also. For the first 4 hours after surgery I suffered some discomfort and my vision went from being quite hazy to perfectly clear. On my check up the next day, my vision was at driving standard already. Each day it gets better and better. It's the best thing I have ever done and I would recommend optimax to anyone thinking of having laser eye surgery. All the staff were brilliant.  More...

Had Epi-Lasek done at Croydon clinic with Professor Venter on 08/09/05. My prescription was -6.50 and -6.75 with astigmatism in both eyes. I also have thin corneas so mytomicin-c was used. The procedure was painless just a little bit weird. It was all over in about 15minutes.Its been a month today, last check-up was told that left eye is -0.50 and right eye is -1.75, and that this might improve with time, so I’m praying!!! As I am a nurse I only paid half price £595! Night vision is still a bit poor, awaiting next appointment towards the end of this month. It’s definitely been worth every penny, no more glasses or contacts. If you are thinking about having this treatment, just book yourself ...  More...

I had the Lasik eye treatment 7 weeks ago. I was totally impressed by the operation, it was painless and quick and although I suffered from mild discomfort for a day and a half this was all it was. By the second day I could see well enough to get by, but when I returned to work intensive computer work was a bit difficult for the first week but after that everything was fine. I have had no headaches or other side effects. I am the biggest coward going and everybody is so amazed that I actually went through with it, but I would say it is the best thing I have ever had done. Many thanks for all your help.  More...

I bought the operation as a present for my wife, who is absolutely overjoyed at being able to see when she wakes up without the need to fumble for glasses. She doesn't believe I can ever top this present. I would highly reccomend the treatment for anyone who is eligible!  More...

I would recommend optimax to anyone. I suffered about 12 hours of discomfort(not pain) following epi-lasik surgery. Within 2 weeks I had better vision than when I wore glasses. I can now read every line on the sight test chart. This has really changed my life for only very short and mild discomfort.  More...

I've read a lot of the reviews on here, and looked at several other websites, but I'm looking for a bit of more specific information relating to laser treatment, based on my prescription and lifestyle. If any one can offer advice/personal experiences which may help, please email me. (Please put 'LASIK' in the subject box so it'll be easier to find if it gets filtered out to junk mail!) My main concerns are: 1. My age - I am 21. Is having laser treatment at this age a good or bad idea? 2. I am a student, but I am considering a career in the police once I graduate. 3. I play rugby and am concerned that LASIK (which I think would be my only option (??)) may be a ...  More...

I had my surgery done nearly a week ago now and I still cant get over how well my eyesight is. Sometimes I go to take my glasses off or think I need to take my contacts out but I dont. I am only 21, so I was quite scared about getting it done coz I was young. The surgery is very quick and I will say the only thing that bothered me was the clasp in my eye. However it is worth every penny. Optimax were brilliant they are very thorough and you did not feel like it was a sales pitch. If anyone is thinking of having it done I would definitely say go for it you will not regret it. I went to the optimax in Liverpool and they could not be helpful enough. Good luck.  More...

I had Epi-Lasik done on both eyes last Friday. Four days on from surgery and my right eye is still a tad blurry, but the left eye is healing great. I’m still slightly anxious about my blurry right eye but I’ve been told it’s normal for the eyes to heal differently. My right eye does seem to be getting clearer each day, and I have to keep in mind I’m only on the forth day of recovery. The operation was carried out at the Opitmax clinic in Manchester by a female doctor (I know it sounds ridiculous but I never got her name). She was pleasant but seemed to focus on if I knew entirely what the risks where, that made me a little uneasy. She was pleasant though, although a little quiet througho ...  More...

Had treatment done last October (have only just been told about this review site!). Was very nervous about the whole thing when I recevied an appointment for the test, consultation and treatment on the same day! My eyes were both -2.75. I went ahead with the surgery (Epi-Lasik) at a cost of £990 for both eyes at the Manchester clinic. Result: WOW!! I could see straight away but about 4 hours later my eyes were very swollen and couldnt see for about 18 hours later - not a problem because I got alot of sleep with the help of the sleeping pills!. Had the lenses taken out 3 days later which got rid of the little discomfort I had and the swelling was gone completely by day 5. I had no worr ...  More...

Saw it on ebay, and cos i am sick of having endless problems with my contacts, i thought, what the hell! Spoke to the staff after buying it on ebay and discussed my options. It was at that point i could have easily turned around and said no, but they were so helpful. As they explained my options, it emerged that as i am employed by the NHS i can get it half price! Well, that made my mind up for me!!! Went for my initial consultation, and i couldn't have been more impressed. The clinic was clean, the staff were friendly, they didn't laugh when i asked if i could lose my eyes, they were just wonderful. My surgery is booked for 26th September and i cant wait. Well I've took the plunge and I am booked in optimax manchester Sat 17/09. Opting for Lasek due to fears about actually having my cornea cut. Bought my package off Ebay which takes a bit of getting use to but hey it is the year 2005 and also if it saves me £400 on my last quote what the heck! My perscrition is R/E = -4.00 sph, +2.25 cyl, 100°, L/E = -4.25 sph, +2.00 cyl, 90°, would like to hear from anyone who has had a similar perscription corrected by Lasek. I will post back as soon as my new eyes allow me to.  More...

Very high standard of treatment at the liverpool branch of Optimax. And very competetive as i bought the treatment throu ebay My eyes were -1.75 in both eyes & i opted to have just one eye done, the difference is amazing, no more glasses..... great!!! The guy who i saw has got it spot on my right eye is now 0 prescription. It took my brain about two months to get used to having one eye at -1.75 & one at 0, but i would recommend to anyone that you try monovision first. its worked really well for me!! Paul  More...

Has LASIK at Southampton on 06/09/05 carried out by Dr.McGraw. Absolutely no pain whatsoever, she explained everything that was about to happen and was reasuring at all times. I did not realise it would be so clinical and that they would all be gowned up but made me feel at ease straight away, treatment only took 10 minutes. Opted to have both eyes done at the same time and immediately saw the results once I was sat back in the waiting room. Had worn glasses and used contacts for 40 years combined with a prescription of -6.50 in both eyes so was expectant (and told) that I might need Reading glasses afterwards. Obviously only day 2 at the moment but my vision is fantastic and I am eve ...  More...

I had my laser surgery in February 2005, 2 weeks after I was made redundant and searching for a new job – it was a highly stressful time, but it had been booked for over a month so there was no going back! I got a ‘January Sale’ voucher from Optimax – both eyes done for £700, I had toyed with it for ages, so took advantage of the voucher, as it was cheaper than the Ebay purchase. I went to the Glasgow clinic and had Dr Anwar and for my follow-ups, Myra Crawford. My eyes were: R-3.50 and L-4.00. The surgery itself was fine, a little uncomfortable, and for someone with as strong a stomach as myself, I found it a bit yucky. I would recommend you put some Vicks at your nose, as the s ...  More...

I had my treatment in March of this year after having worn glasses for nearly 20 years from the age of 18. My prescription was -2.75 in each eye which although not very bad was enough that I could not see anything further away than 6 inches without glasses or contacts. Not even being able to see in the mirror to dry my hair in the mornings was getting me down. I had thought about Laser Surgery for many years but was always a bit scared as you really only get the one chance with your eyes but this year as I am getting married in 4 weeks I bit the bullet. I actually found my surgery through e-bay and was then contacted by the Newcastle clinic to arrange my consultation. From start to ...  More...

Had treatment over three months ago at the Southampton clinic, my prescription was R-5.25 L-6.50 was quite nervous on the day of treatment but the staff where reassuring enough. My night vision for first six week was so poor that I could not drive at all. But now it has settled down now still get stars around lights but it does get a bit better every week My vision now is better than it ever was with glasses and during the daylight hours it is a whole new world of vision. I suppose I feel that the day light hour’s vision is so much better because I never wore contact lenses so I was always aware of my glasses frame in edges of the field of my vision In summary I would say if you are co ...  More...

I had LASIK at Aberdeen branch of Advanced Laser Eye Clinic in November 2003. Since then I have experienced many eye troubles. Half of my original prescription has come back, so I must still wear glasses. Contact lenses are out, since my eyes now get painfully dry. As soon as things started to go wrong, the Clinic's attitude to me changed - far from giving me more care, they made me feel like the fault was mine as 'all surgery contains risks' (even though I had not been fully warned of these risks before the surgery) and I got the clear impression that they saw me as a nuisance. I asked them for a payment towards new glasses, they refused to help. And even though the surgery had ...  More...

I attended the Optimax Leeds branch. From start to finish, I was shown first class customer care. The surgeon explained the procedure in simple terms, and alayed any fears that I had. The Lasik procedure was amazingly quick, and totally painless. I experienced a mild discomfort for around two hours afterwards, but no more than if I had been wearing my contact lenses to sleep in. The following morning I had eyesight better than that experienced with my contact lenses. I cannot recommend Optimax too highly.  More...

I had epi-lasik treatment at the Birmingham Optimax clinic two weeks ago. My prescription was -2 and -3.25 and now I have 20:20 vision. There was some discomfort (not enough to stop me sleeping) for the first 24 hours but that was it. My vision has improved daily since. I bought the treatment via Ebay and paid £795 total for both eyes, which I think is excellent value when you think how much I have spent in my life on glasses and contract lenses. I took a week off work to recover but this was mainly because I have to do a lot of driving and needed to be sure I was safe to be on the roads.  More...

Croydon clinic. EPI-LASEK 3 weeks ago. Dr Hoe. I had something like -2.5 in both eyes. consultation same day as surgery. in and out in just over an hour. had a very uncomfortable evening until i eventually conked out thanks to pain killers and sleeping pills. it'd be wise to practice using eye drops before you get it done otherwise you'll be getting used to it at your most vulnerable time. i think i didn't use anesthetic drops correctly or my tears washed them out and that's why they didn't appear to work. next day i woke up fine. pain gone and had a normal weekend - telly etc. when i got protective contacts off a few days later I had better than 20/20. it's even impr ...  More...

I had Epi-lasek on moderately short-sighted eyes. There was 12 hrs of minor discomfort, which is fairly insignificiant when you consider the gains. I have 20/20 vision now and would recommend this treatment to anyone. I went to Optimax Liverpool clinic and the staff there were great and very professional and I would highly recommend them(my Dad and bother are also going there now!). Don't be put off by the fact Optimax is cheaper than other clinics, i personally think that other clinics are just ripping people off. I bought my Laser Eye Surgery on Ebay. The whole process from bidding, to having the treatment done, has only taken 3 weeks. I chose Epi lasek treatment for my short sightedness, and chose Liverpool as my nearest clinic. I had my treatment on 16th August 2005. My settings were:- left eye sph -2.84.Cyl -0.56.Axis 175. right eye sph -3.04.Cyl -0.88.Axis 15. I would like to thank all of the staff and the operating surgeon in Liverpool for their professional manner, and also their friendliness. I am still receiving aftercare appointments, and my eyesight is improving day on day. I have a little blurred vision with my left eye, but I have been advised that this is ...  More...

Had Epi-Lasik at Liverpool on Saturday 13th August 2005. I'm 25 and my vision was -2.25 and -2.50. This was my second consultation as in April I wasn't suitable due to a viral infection, although I wasn't aware that I had one. Had all my tests done again, blood pressure etc and had my consultation with Dr Madusudhan. He had a look and confirmed what my optician had told me, that my infection had cleared up. It was a fantastic feeling, knowing that in a couple of hours I will have surgery to improve my vision with the hope of not having to wear contact lenses again. I went back into reception, massive smile on my face, told my dad that I was having it done and paid my deposi ...  More...

I was unsure whether my eyes were suitable for laser treatment as my one eye was -10.5 and the other -9.75. I went for my consultation and found that as my corneas were exceptionally thick I could have Lasik carried out. Although I do not have perfect vision in both eyes (I am now very slightly long sighted but still able to drive without glasses) I did not expect never to have to wear glasses again. I am 48 years of age so I knew I would need reading glasses - nothing can yet be done about the ageing process. I was just fed up of having to pay over £300 for a decent pair of glasses I have read comments about the possible side effects which Optimax points out prior to treatment but ...  More...

Hi, well here i am writing to you all on the 4th day after epi-lasek treatment on the 11th. What can i say, well the procedure is not the nicest of things to go through, but neither is having a tooth pulled. It's totally pain free, if a little weird.......Once the anastetic eye drops wore off my eyes became painfull, but it was manageble.....took my sleeping pills and off to bed i went. The next day was like a miricle, i had very good vision and no pain or irritation. Over the next couple of days my vision was just getting better and better. 1 hour to go untill i have my banged lens taken out and my eyes are tested. I know already that they near to if not 20/20, but i'll post back af ...  More...

I have been considering the eye surgery since the early 90's, until my wife saw the offer advertised on ebay of all things, so i thought about it and took the plunge. The consultation was very thorough and intensive. I didn't realise what you can tell from your eyes. The consultation told me that i would get a very good result. All the bad points were clearly pointed out to me and i was under no pressure at any time to have them done. I chose the epi-lasik and to have both eyes done at there and then. The staff and surgeon were very helpful and made you feel relaxed. The operation was amazingly quick, less than 30 seconds per eye and there was an initial sight of perfect vision after ...  More...

Decided to upgrade to Lasik from Epi-Lasik based on positive comments and recovery time in relation to driving etc. Had treatment at Leicester Optimax following the consultation and tests by a South African Doctor called Andre. He was fantastic as were the rest of the Leicester staff. I would agree with the dentist comments that other people have left (burning smell etc)and the general easiness of the operation. My sight is now fantastic 4 months 'in', (now see where my golf ball has landed!!)however the immediate results were very good after about 4 - 5 hours. My own personal account of discomfort - felt like a double eye poke for about three hours after returning home. Started bac ...  More...

Hi, I also need check-ups and was very suprised to find the clinic gone into liquidation. Also, I am no longer getting a response from the 0870 number they advertise - I did get a call back from someone representing the administrators a couple of weeks ago. It is possible to make a claim against your credit card company (if this is how you paid) by getting a copy of the Letter of Liquidation from Company House and forwarding it with all relevant materials to your credit card company- unfortunately Company House have not received this yet! I was also told by whoever is in charge of the liquidation that a new company would be taking over the service and would honour all outsatnding check-ups a ...  More...

I bought laser surgery as a present for my son who has worn glasses since the age of 11 and is now 24. After the initial consultation with Optimax in London, I was told that I have slightly thinner than average corneas. My best option was to have the treatment done at Croydon, where they have a machine that cuts a thinner flap than normal. It took a considerable length of time to get a consultation with the Croydon surgeon -a couple of months, with several phone calls (including some promised call-backs that never happened) and an email to the founder of the company(which seemed to speed things up enormously). I got a slot for a consultation and if I wanted, treatment the same day. From that point on, everything has been amazing - surreal, almost. Professor Venter was calm, professional, ...  More...

I have been wearing glasses since I was 18, and am now 35yrs. Both eyes are -3 with astigmatism. After a few months of research, I decided to go with Optimax, having read the reviews on this site I wanted to ensure that Dr Patel carried out the procedure in London. Having met Dr Patel on the 26th of July for my consultation, I was very, very impressed with his explanations, calmness and successful approach. I had a choice of either Epi-Lasek or Lasik. Having read all the documentation I had received, I decided to go for Lasik, the reasons for this were that the healing process is shorter and you are not required to wear contact lense bandages after. I arrived back at the clinic on Thursday ...  More...

I had epi-lasek on both eyes (-2.00) just over one week ago. The first day was very painful, anisthetic wore off after about 3 hours, eyes were streaming and had to keep them closed. Took recommended advice and took the given painkillers and sleeping tablets and slept for 16 hours. Next couple of days were a lot better, but very light sensitive, also I'm not very tolerant of contact lenses, so the contact lense badages gave me some irriatation. Spent most of the time the next couple of days resting in dark room. Day 3 lenses were taken out and dramatic improvement. Vision really good already, no pain, just slightly light sensitive. One week on excellent. Watching TV fine, driving and a ...  More...

I am very happy with the service and the treatment in Croydon. I had LASIK on my left eye, which had -4.5 astigmatism and was midly shortsighted. I had a lot of reflections and ghosts. Now it's 5 days after treatment and my left eye is now a lot better than my right is. I could already read the 5th line on the chart on the 1-day aftercare. So I can really recommend Optimax. I've been at Croydon, treated by Dr. Venter.  More...

If you're thinking about getting your eyes lasered then stop thinking and just do it! Sure there might be a bit of pain for a few days so just sleep until it's gone. The only problem I had was the fact that my hayfever kicked in the day after surgery. So if you have hayfever keep taking your tablets and check before lasering that it's ok to do so. If it's not then put off the op until winter. I wish I'd done it years ago instead of thinking about it. Highly recommended.  More...

I had both my eyes lasered much more than ten years ago (please let me know!) at the Finchley clinic. The technology then did not permit both to be done at the same time so I had mine done about six months apart. I experienced pain and discomfort for a few days after each operation and it was several weeks before achieving perfect sight but the benefits massively outweigh the inconvenience of contact lenses and spectacles. My sight is still perfect and with the advances in technology, I would thoroughly recommend this procedure to anyone thinking about treatment - get on and do it!  More...

Well, that's it finally decided to take the plunge, after 6-8 months of research. Will be going to the Leeds clinic on the 11th Aug for Topography, consultation and then Bilateral Epi-Lasek. I'm confident that there will be no issues with regards to having this treatment done, as i've had free consultations with other clinics and have been accepted with them. My presciption currently at a stable -2.75 in both with no other issues. So i'm pretty optomistic with regards to the results i'll achieve. I would like to think that 20/20 will be a good result. Keep a look out, I'll post here with updates after the procedure Regards  More...

I had epi-Lasek early April 2005. Before this my prescription was -4.00 in both eyes. I could see that my eyesight had improved drastically straight after the procedure and over the next 7 days everything became much sharper, a pleasure that I had not enjoyed without the aid of glasses/contact lenses in 20 years. Now after 2 aftercare appointments I have been told that my vision is 20/20 and that I am even reading the line below the 20/20 grading! The staff at Optimax Birmingham were excellent before and after surgery and my Eye Surgeon was very friendly, thorough and honest. This was the best decision that I had ever made. I had epi-lasek at the Birmingham clinic just under a week ago (19/6/05). I had prepared myself for the worst, and imagined dreadful pain, both during and afterwards. I can honestly say, it was fine. The actual procedure is over very quickly, and really doesn't hurt...just a slight feeling of pressure. Within half an hour, my eyes were very sore, but nowhere near as bad as I had imagined. My eyelids became quite swollen, and being in a bright room was uncomfortable, so I took two sleeping tablets (provided) and went to bed. By the next morning, most of the swelling had gone down and the soreness had eased. I just felt like I usually do when I've had my contact lenses in too long. ...  More...

Had eye surgery at Croydon after wearing glasses for the past 12 years. I saw an offer from Optimax on ebay and out of curiosity went for it. I paid an amazing £810 for both eyes and the process was so simple and quick. It was difficult for the first 2 days and the vision was getting better for the first week. Now have perfect eye sight, wearing sunglasses when I want to, going swimming etc. Basically doing all the things I couldn't do before. I had Epi-Lasik at the Manchester clinic in June-05. Both my eye's were approx -4.0. All the eyes test etc given before the treatment were quick and easy. I was in the treatment room for less than 10 minutes and that included the time to clamp and prepare both eyes and the laser treatment (about 15 seconds for each eye). There was NO PAIN at all during the treatment. After the treatment I was told that within 30 minutes my eyes would begin to feel heavy (as though I wanted to close them and go to sleep) and so was advised to stay in a dark room. And that’s exactly what happened. I was very fortunate that I DIDN’T HAVE ANY PAIN for the first 48 hours like most people do. Not sure ...  More...

I had Epi Lasik surgery at the Optimax clinic in Bristol. Being in the forces and quite sporty the constant battle trying to keep glasses in good nick and the annoyance of having to take them off for sport (leaving me blind!) was enough for me to take the risk of surgery...and to be honest the worry of "what if I'm left blind?" is not to be underestimated. The booking process and staff at Bristol are excellent and I even shared emails with Russell the boss...now where do you know where the boss has the time or inclination to talk to the customers?? The op took only a few minutes and was totally painless, the recovery period mildly uncomfortable for a couple of days but after that every ...  More...

It's a miracle! I was -6.00 and -6.25 and although my eyes gave the consultants some concern they were absolutely thorough and did their utmost to make this operation possible. After 30 years of being lost without glasses or contacts I am now totally free of them. Vision is now + 0.5 and -0.5. I had Epi-Lasik and although there was some discomfort for the first few days this would still not put me off, such are the wonderful benefits (and I'm a real wimp!). Thank you Optimax. Remember to take your old glasses in and donate them to charity - you won't need them!  More...

I have rated this very poor only because the laser eye clinic in Belfast has gone into liquidation. The eye surgery was fine. Unfortunately I require re-treatment due to my eye sight being particularly poor to start with. As the company has gone bust i have no idea where i stand. If anyone has any info please email me. Thanks john  More...

I had epi lasik done at the Croydon surgery, it took 5 minutes and i can safely say that the results are fantastic. I now have better then 20 20 vision { and i thought you couldnt get better than that }, the staff are very friendly and professional {especially as i turned up late for my second appointment because i hadn't read the time right on the letter} and i can assure you that was before my op.I do strongly advise anyone who wants it done to get it done, sure it hurts a bit but after a few hours you are fine.In fact the only problem that i have had is that i still push phantom glasses up my nose, but i'm sure that habit will fade away soon.  More...

Lasik at Optimax Bristol. Staff excellent and helpful. Had Lasik for Myopia and Astigmatism. Combined minus 5.5D. Early results very good. Op and post op was free apart from a mild grittiness. Keep putting the drops in! Post op follow ups very professionally handled. Only issue is that Astig correction hasn't settled quite as it should have done which proabably means another lasik adjustment to correct (FOC). I will say that this is down to me and my healing not the clinic! Having been though the procedure once I'm happy and confident that the tweak will do the job. I will add further comments here as and when :)  More...

For anyone who is considering laser surgery but is afraid to go ahead let me say if I can do it anyone can! Here is my experience of the procedure. I thought about having laser eye surgery years ago when it first became available but decided to let other people be the guinea pigs and wait until it had been around for a while before taking the plunge. I recently had a bonus at work that I knew was going to be enough to pay for the surgery so plucked up courage and went for it! I visited the Leeds clinic on Thursday May 5th, I was very nervous but was soon put at ease by the lovely staff there. I had a few tests before being told I was able to have the surgery should I choose to do so, there ...  More...

I had lasik treatment at the Leeds clinic on the 19th of May, went back the next day for a check-up and I had 20/20 vision. Slight discomfort on the day of treatment which only lasted a couple of hours and no problems since. The staff were very helpful and courteous. I only have one regret, that I did'nt have it done years ago. Thank-you Optimax superb service!  More...

Hi there.. I have been told that Lasek is the best option for me due to small prescription and width of cornea's, my eyes are -2.75 in both. But with this procedure the Bowman's layer is destroyed. All the research I've done suggest that not alot is know about this part of the eye. Thus if it is destroyed what will the long term effects be ? if we don't know what it's there for then why do we think it's ok for it to be destroyed........?  More...

I recently had epi-lasik at the Southampton branch of Optimax. The service was honest professional. The treatment was quick, but as described, the pain was severe for 48 hours, but the results are fantastic, better than 20/20 after two weeks. I am a paramedic by trade, so my eyesight is important to me. I can recommend treatment to everyone. The freedom from lenses and glasses takes a while to get used to, but well worth it!  More...

My prescription was -5.00 left eye - -4.75 right eye and I had worn specs for over 30 years. Was very nervous as you don't mess with your eyesight but decided to visit Birmingham office and had my consultation with Dr Andre and crew. Every step of the way I was given guidance and more importantly I felt - honest answers. Had Lasik treatment on 6th July and for the first time in my life I could see everything properly. All the way through the procedure every step was advised and I was totally reassured - within 30 minutes my treatment was completed. I had a prescription of -6.25 in both eyes when i decided it was time that i opted for laser surgery. I had worn contact lenses for around 5 years. After research i chose the Optimax Clinic in Ipswich for a consultation. The staff were friendly and i couldnt fault them in their efforts to provide a professional service. They really made me feel at ease. I had Lasik Surgery 2 days after the consultation. It was the best thing i have ever done. Optimax aftercare really leaves a lot of other clinics in the shade. 30th June I went for a consultation with Dr. Hynes at the Manchester clinic. Prescription was R-3.75 cyl-0.5, L-3.00 cyl-0.25. Dr Hynes' advised that my corneas were a little too thin for lasik so I opted for epi-lasek. Dr Hynes answered all my questions and no pressure was applied to have the op. 4th July op day! Appointment was for 9.45 am but surgery was done about 3 hours late. Everyone at the clinic was apologetic and to be fair the receptionist did advise me they were running late and to go out for breakfast. Op went fine - a really strange and interesting experience. There was no pain, just slight discomfort. After it was done Dr Hynes checked my eyes, then it was sunglass ...  More...

I travelled from Jersey to Manchester for PRK treatment to both eyes and was delighted with the results. The first 48 hours after surgery were 'uncomfortable' but not painful (i.e eyes are extremely watery and feel a little gritty and very heavy). After 48 hours everything settled down and a week after surgery I can see better than ever (even better than when I wore specs or contact lenses). The operation itself was pain free and I chatted to the surgeon about our interests during the operation !! I understand anyone having reservations about 'cosmetic surgery' to correct their eyesight but for me it was fantastic and would recommend this to anyone.  More...

I had EPI LASEK treatment at the Finchley Road clinic in May 2003, performed by Dr Islam. I was pretty short sighted (-5.00 in one eye and -5.25 in the other) with very high levels of astigmatism as well. I found the recovery to be a lot less painful than I had expected given some of the comments I'd read on this website from people who'd had the treatment. Within a week I was driving and the light sensitivity was pretty much gone. At my six month check up it became apparent that, although the treatment had been successful in correcting the short sight, my astigmatism had returned. I was informed that this was due to haze having formed during the healing process and was advised to gi ...  More...

Had lasek surgery on both eyes at Finchley Rd Optimax some 3-4 years ago, can't remember exactly when. Going in I was minus 11, with astigmatism, so pretty bad. Op took less than ten minutes, no pain, just a vague stinging like you get when there's a bit of soap in your eye. Didn't bother using the paracetamol tabs they gave me. Have needed nothing since, eyesight is fab, some light scatter from headlamps but nothing intolerable, low light vision is not super but it wasn't before. The pros outweigh the cons by about 9999 to 1. Lasek is without question the most worthwhile thing I have ever done for myself.  More...

Had epi-Lasek for short sight (-4.00 with astigmatism) approx 4 weeks ago. Went in for consultation, had the surgery at about 11.30am. Eyes were very very very (etc) light sensitive for the rest of the day. By the next morning, sensitivity had faded, and only very mild discomfort. I knew someone had been playing around with my eyes, but there was no great pain. By the Saturday, when I had the bandage lenses removed, I was legal to drive. I must say, the 'grittiness' caused by haviing the lenses removed was more uncomfortable than the actual surgery. Still didn't need to use the painkillers though. A week after that, vision was near perfect. To the point where I could ...  More...

Had Lasik approx 4 weeks ago at the Liverpool clinic.. i dont need to go on about how life changing it is because we all know that life without the "ball and chain" of glasses will be better (at least much more convienient).. So i will enclose the text of an email that i sent to friends a few days after the op.. Excuse the colourful language, have the op and you will agree with every word :-) PS im now 20/20 and looking forward to going swimming (you have to wait four weeks) this wednesday :-) ************ Hey all Eye zapping was a success. There was a few points I would like to comment about though. Point 1 - painless operation my ass !! Those clamps and suction things were ...  More...

I had my eyes done at the Manchester Clinic in 1995. It was a very new procedure and I was a little nervous, but I needn't have been. I have had no problems at all in the ten years since they were done.My daughter has recently been to the same clinic and she is really pleased with the result.  More...

This clinic is now in liquidation, I was due an appointment today at 10am but when I turned up, there was a notice on the door informing me that the clinic was closed and to check back for further details. I'm a bit concerned as I'm not quite finished with my check ups, only having had my treatment a little over 2 weeks ago! No letter, no phone call, not good!  More...

Well its over and done with now I am 10 days down the line and what can I say apart from "miracle". I went for my treatment at 3.00 on the Friday afternoon, after eye tests, consent forms etc I was taken at 4.00 and by 4.30 it was done. The procedure was a little unconfortable but hey we face this EVERY time we go to the dentist. By 9pm that night the light sensitivity had worn off and my eyes were a little "nippy" however I was able to see. I went back to the clinic the following morning at 9.30 and Dr Anwar confirmed that I had 20/20 vision. It was still a little blurred but he did say it would get better. I was back on Saturday for my week check up and he confirmed that I am actually ...  More...

I am considering surgery after a consulation at the Glasgow clinic. I am pretty borderline for Lasik due to the thinness of my corneas, but the consultant felt epi-Lasek would have too great a chance of haze due to a high prescription (-6.25) in one eye. I'm worried that it may not be the best kind of treatment for me since there would be no room left for a re-treatment in that eye, plus it gets pretty close to the safety limit of remaining cornea in both eyes. Has anyone else had epi-Lasek or Lasek with such high myopia?  More...

Went for my consultation to the Glasgow Clinic Last Friday 3rd June. The staff were very efficient and I had numerous tests done on my eyes before being introduced to the consultant. Dr Anwar El Haq. This is a true gentleman he really put me at my ease and covered everything with regards to why he was doing various tests, what to expect and problems (if any) which may occur. I am going back to the Clinic tomorrow to have Bi-Lateral Lasek Surgery, My vision is -6.00 in one and -6.25 in the other. Right now I am feeling very nervous, but looking forward to hopefully having 20/20 vision. I will let you all know how I get on. Fingers Crossed.  More...

Clinic - Bristol Date of treatment - early March 05' I first started needing to use corrective methods for my vision in the spring of 2004 – I was only suffering from mild short sightedness as a result of using VDU's/straining eyes in lecture theatres at Uni etc. I found that I did not like my appearance with glasses, which I also found heavy, despite paying above the odds for a pair of lightweight, frameless specs. I also struggled with the recommended soft monthly contact lenses. This is not directed against the optician who recommended them, but simply that I didn’t have the patience or time to use them as advised. Result of the contact lenses was a series of eye infections du ...  More...

I've always been conidered to have had severe short sightedness. I always got depressed when my prescription would yet again change in every check up. I always wanted to try laser treatment but put off by my prescription, being over -7.00. I decided after my 30th birthday it was now or never and booked an appointment. I discovered optimax on the internet and so they had excellent feedback. I was told I could have the lasik treatment which I did in march this year. I expected to still need some prescription glasses, and have further treatment. The day of treatment started like this; I got to the clinic at 9.45 am I was brought into the treatment room at 11.30am, the actual procedur ...  More...

I had bi-lateral lasik a month ago at the Ipswich branch. I couldn't see many people on the forum who had had lasik or gone to Ipswich, so it was quite an eye opener (sorry!). I had no problems during or after surgery - it was all as per other people's comments. I made sure I breathed through my mouth the whole time so as not to experience "THE SMELL"! and it worked! Bad comments: they should have a spearate room for those who have just been treated as there is nothing worse for nerves than having a loud woman coming back after surgery shouting out all about the procedure, when all you want is some calming music before you go in! Also, the staff were all over the place. I know ...  More...

I had epi-lasik on both eyes on sat 30th april 2005. Treatment was absolutely pain free, but OMG! once the anaesthetic drops had worn off the pain was unbearable! I couldn't open my eyes until sunday lunchtime (24 hours after treatment) and only then for 10-15 mins. Went back to bed, managed 2 hours on couch sunday evening, but my left eye hurt like hell, and starting to puff up. Monday - again spent most of day in bed, right eye great, but left eye feels like it has 100 pins stuck in it. The only relief i get is when i'm asleep. Tuesday 72 hours after treatment - returned to Optimax newcastle to have my bandage contacts removed. Instant relief!!!! I was told that I'd had a react ...  More...

What can I say ??? Superb !!! I had bi-lateral epi-LASEK in Manchester just 3 days ago, and am already better than driving standard. I saw Stephen Doyle, and am so happy that I eventually decided to go ahead with the surgery. On the day itself, the operation is not painful, just a really "weird" experience - The crackle, the smell and that's it, all done. Dr Doyle even corrected a slight astigmatism in one eye that I wasn't even aware of. Once the anaesthetic drops wore off - Discomfort is NOT the word for it !!!!! I couldn't open my eyes without them streaming, and I had to wait for my lift for 45 minutes. I just kep t my eyes firmly closed and went straight ...  More...

I had a consultation with Dr Patel on 14/4/05 after researching this subject, and to my disappointment found very little comment from people with long sight who had received surgery. Dr Patel appeared quite quiet at first, but he was more than willing to answer my many questions. He infomed me that I had researched very well and that I was suitable for Lasik and as a result I went ahead with it the next day. I am quite squeamish and was even uncomfortable about putting contact lenses in my eyes, but even though I was a little nervous found that there were no surpises in store. Dr Patel talked me through the procedure. I can say there was no pain whatsoever, and afterwards waited in the r ...  More...

I had both eyes Laseked on the same day two years ago. About half an hour later my eyes started watering and they ran and ran for hours. Went to bed and slept for hours. When I got up the next day I could watch TV but it took almost a week before I could read again (with the aid of a magnifier). Now I still need reading glasses (my extreme old age, you know) but have discovered many wonders of being specless 1. Your eyeballs don't steam up when you open the oven door. 2. I can see when I walk in the rain. 3. I can wear real sunglasses at last. 4. I can put on makeup without being 2 inches from the mirror. I had epi-lasek treatment at Optimax in Finchley Road on 22/03/05. My appointment was at 9.30am and I was seen within 10 minutes of arriving. I was nervous but there was no need to be. The treatment was uncomfortable, as each eye was clamped open for aprrox. 10 minutes, but it was less painful than I had expected and my surgeon talked me through every stage, which was very reassuring. After the treatment was completed, I was given my medication and advice for the next few days. I made on appointment to have my bandage lenses removed 4 days later and felt OK to travel home. At this point the anaesthetic had not worn off and I felt fine. As I left the clinic and walked to the car I was ama ...  More...

I had lasik 4 days ago at the Ipswich Optimax. My vision was great straight afterwards and up to now no changes! I do have unsightly red spots on the whites of my eyes, but know that these will diminish. I also feel like I've had contact lenses in too long when my eyes get tired - but it's not even a week after my op, so I know I should still rest my eyes! Going back to work tomorrow, and am looking forward to seeing whether people realise I don't wear glasses any more!  More...

I had epi lasek on the 24th Feb 05. I was -4.25 and -4.00 with .75 astigmatism in one eye. At the 4 week point I had a check up (in the afternoon) and both eyes were -.75 and if I squinted I was just within the driving limit. I also had clouding and the Dr perscribed steroid eyedrops. What I cannot understand is; after a good nights sleep in the morning my vision appears to be 20/20, and sharp as a button, but this quickly deteriorates (within an hour) to barely driving standard. I expected this to improve over time and with the eye drops. It is now coming up to 7 weeks post op point, and I have seen no real improvement. I understand that it takes the eyes nearly six months to settle, but I ...  More...

I have learned that this is not unusual & should settle in a short while. Again, definitely the best money I have spent without a doubt!  More...

Had Epi-Lasek at Birmingham clinic on 14th February 2005 (Dr Islam). Booked in at 11:15, had lots of tests and consultation with Dr Islam. I was told that surgery would take place at approx. 2pm that day. The surgery itself was painless, but I must say the weirdest experience of my life!, most bizzare the way the surface of the eye is 'pushed' to one side and to hear the laser 'crackle'!! - after the first eye, I tried not to smell the second eye! After the procedure, a clear bandage contact lense was placed on eye. I was given a 'goodie bag' with contained antibiotic eye drops, sleeping tablets and strong pain killers and was told by Dr Islam that the pain shoul ...  More...

Had bilat epi-lasek 23rd March at southampton (Dr Islam) for Left -3.5, right -3.25 Hurt like absolute hell for 48 hours! Painful when eyes closed but couldn't open them Now day 8, right eye perfect, left eye ghost like images, blurry still. Have been told not to worry (how did you guess) but I'm a little concerned. Optimax cheap but pretty poor admin and general organisional skills. However I will await the result of my eyesight before giving a rating. Back on Monday 4th April for follow-up  More...

Hi I am due to visit the Southampton clinic on thursday for the consultation and surgery. I am really nervious and not quite sure whether I should go for the Lasik or Epi-Lasik surgery. I am supposed to be going to a concert on the friday night - am I being too optimistic about how quickly I will be able to see. Any hints/advice would be greatly appreciated.  More...

I had epi-lasek on my right eye at the Leeds clinic on 7/3/05. Mr Samuel did the surgery. Am due to have surgery on my left eye on 11/3/05. I was unable to have Lasik due to thin corneas. My prescription was R-5.50-1.75+172, L-4.25-1.75 +172. On removal of bandage lens I was told that sight in my right eye was just under driving requirements but that this would probably improve over the next few days. My sight has certainly improved but lacks sharpness. I wondered if this is likely to improve or if an enhancement may be necessary? Or am I expecting miracles?  More...

Had Bi-lateral Epi Lasek on Thursday 17th at Southampton, performed by Dr Ayoubi. Arrived at Optimax 10 mins early for my appointment & was seen immediately for my topography. Was slightly late going in for my consultation but again, no problems (was very worried beforehand that I would be turned down at the last minute). Popped out to West Quay for some lunch & arrived back at 1.50 for treatment. I won't go into detail about the procedure as it's already been done many times in this forum. Anyway, Dr Ayoubi explained everything in detail as he was doing it (including counting down to the laser starting.. it's like something out of James Bond!). I wasn't in the treatment room ...  More...

For the past 40 years since I was 19 I have been short-sighted and always wore spectacles for distance vision. Over the years this myopic condition had slightly got worse, but it was relative. Where does long-sight finish and short-sight begin? At first I could watch television without glasses and only needed them for driving or outdoor pursuits, but gradually the ‘distance’ became shorter and shorter. Until recently I needed them all the time except for anything that was less than 3 feet away. I have never used contact lenses only spectacles and I made enquiries about laser eye treatment. It proved to be expensive and at that time beyond my means, until talking to friends who all ha ...  More...

I was told that Optimax Ipswich don't use bandage lenses. Can anyone comment on this? I must admit that I haven't been inspired with confidence by my phone calls to the enquiry line so far. They don't seem to give consistent answers and no-one calls back when this has been promised.  More...

Tuesday 8th March I went in for Epi Lasek surgery at the Finchley clinic in London. Although I felt there was always room for improvement with the admin side of things on the day of my consultation, my opinion was certainly changed on the day on my op. Betheena, (think thats how she spells her name) Julia (who made me feel at ease as she had her eyes done the previous week) and Dr Patel who looked after me superbly, were professional beyond the call of duty and I was so please I was in their hands. The op itself was painless but I cant emphasise enough the pain that kicks in once the anaesthetic wears off. It was nasty! Still the next morning, after dosing myself up with their painkillers ...  More...

I had worn glasses for 45 years and suffered very bad astigmatism. I heard from a colleague about Optimax in Glasgow and visited firstly for information and advice. I found all of the staff to be very helpful, knowledgeable and above all honest. I was given all the information verbally and in written format and asked to go away, read the info and then decide what I wanted to do. I then booked a consultation which again met all my requirements, all my questions were answered fully and I chose to have Lasik treatment which was carried out in August 2004. I am delighted with the results and cannot believe what a difference it has made to my life. I would recommend Optimax to anyon ...  More...

I had LASEK treatment at the Leeds Optimax 5 weeks ago, Dr. Salmuel performed the operation. I opted to have each eye done separately, with a 3 week gap between the operations. I was nervous as hell and arrived at the surgery quite early. After I filled in a consent form I was told to take a seat where I waited for about 30 mins. I spoke to Dr. Salmuel before the operation and asked some questions about the procedure itself. Questions I should have asked during the consultation to be fair. After which I continued to wait… My name was called out and I was asked to put some plastic things over my feet and a hair net on. I proceeded to the operating theatre where I laid on a bed a ...  More...

I am due to have bi-lateral Epi Lasek on the 17th at Southampton. I must say that this forum has put my mind at rest to a certain degree as I have days when I think I'm doing the wrong thing by having this done. However, reading the majority of peoples comments so far, it looks like all I have to worry about is the service received by optimax, rather than the treatment/aftercare itself. Their quality of communication seems to vary from my experience so far. Sometimes I get a response to e-mails straight away. Other times nothing at all. I am currently in the "extremely nervous" stage & the lack of communication does nothing to ease any fears, or answer any questions I may have. Anyway, I ...  More...

I had bi-lateral epi lasek surgery on the 24th Feb 05 at the Bristol Branch performed by Dr Islam. The previous comments with regards to recovery and pain are all true. I am extremely pleased with the results and am being realistic with the recovery time. I had my bandage lens taken out on the following Monday and my eyesight has been improving on a daily basis. However, I am now becoming slightly concerned with a minor problem that I have, and after going through ALL previous postings I cannot find anyone with a similar problem. I have, in each eye, what I can only describe as a small fatty lump (it does have a medical name but this eludes me), which apparently is not uncommon or unusual. ...  More...

I used Optimax in Croydon over two years ago for my LASIK surgery. I had to have a retreatment in 3 months, but now have near perfect vision. The staff we all brilliant and I cannot fault anything. I did my research beforehand, so felt reasonably confident before going. Obviously it is a risky procedure and I had my doubts, but now that it is done I have no regrets. My husband has now had his eyes done at Optimax in Manchester, and so far is very happy. I only wish this treatment was available when I was 20 rather than 40! It would have made those years so much easier!!! I would recommend Optimax to anyone, but would always say to do your research on the net about the procedure, rese ...  More...

Hi, I travelled to the Leeds Clinic on Sat 19th feb to have epi-lasek on both eyes. I have to say the staff were excellent with me, and Dr Samuel made me feel really at ease. I wasn't too worried about the operation itself, i was more concerned with the pain I expected to kick in afterwards. Anyway I was given a bag of pain killers and ointments. The op was done at 2.30 and there was no discomfort at all. About 30 mins later we had just got back to the car park and i could feel my eyes getting heavier and then they just clamped shut, it didn't hurt too much, just a mild stinging sensation. i went home to bed and didn't open my eyes until sunday evening, apart from when my hu ...  More...

I decided to give these guys a miss after receiving such a poor service before I even had a consultation. I rang and enquired about a consultation and they said that they were having an open in the next week and why didn't I go to that? I advised them that as I work in Hull and the closest clinic to me was Leeds, I would be driving in rush hour traffic which would take me over an hour to get there. Don't worry I was told, they open till 6 and there is no need to book an appoinmtent. I left work at 3.30 and by the time I had got there, parked up and found the place it was 5.03pm. They were shut. I couldn't beleive that after speaking to someone that week and being advised the ...  More...

I had Lasik at the London clinic last week, 9th Feb. All I can say is that it takes a lot to impress me, but oh boy am I impressed!! I knew that it may not be possible to treat my eyes due to my prescription - long sight (+3.5) & astigmatism & a lazy eye. From the moment we entered the clinic we noticed the calm atmosphere. No-one was rushing round in a flap, everyone was so friendly & polite, and there was very little waiting around. Organisation was fantastic. Dr. Patel is such a wonderful man, he took all the time in the world to explain everything & make sure we really understood it all. What impressed us was when he said that he only treats patients that he knows will get a positive res ...  More...

What sold Optimax to me was an encounter with a woman at the clinic while waiting for my initial assessment. She was bringing her daughter for the treatment having had it herself 5 months earlier. I am 100% happy with my treatment. My eyes are much healthier from not using contact lenses and I don't suffer from eye strain, as I did when wearing glasses. Optimax Ipswich staff are excellent - professional, decent and trustworthy.  More...

I had epi-lasek at Liverpool clinic last Friday evening 4 February, prescription -3.75 and -4. The surgery itself wasn't painful although I have to say I wasn't fully prepared for the burning smell. I couldn't believe it when I walked out of the treatment room and could see without my glasses!! I spent that evening and the next two days like a gremlin avoiding bright lights. I wouldn't say my eyes were sore just very watery and it was difficult to open them to put the drops in. I returned on Monday to have the bandage lenses removed, this was a litle uncomfortable-I was 80-85% healed. I have been back to Optimax today (11.2.05). My right eye feels perfect but my left is ...  More...

I am the manager of the Aberdeen branch of the Advanced Laser Eye Clinic, I will be monitoring this site more frequently, so if you have any direct questions about laser eye surgery I will be more than happy to answer them. Julie - LASEK has excellent results, although the healing period is slightly longer than that of LASIK, it is a highly effective procedure. Many of our patients who are unsuitable for LASIK opt to have LASEK (where appropriate) and are delighted with the results, although I am aware that most of the postings on this site are from LASIK patients. You can contact me direct on the above email address if you would like to discuss this further, or would like to see some commen ...  More...

I had Lasik surgery on both eyes on the 22nd January 2005 and am very pleased with the results. One thing that I was unhappy with was the service/reception team at the Croydon surgery. There were a couple of times when the surgeons assistants, wearing scrubs, would exit the fire door next to reception, leave it ajar, and stand there smoking. You could smell the smoke! They would then re-enter the reception put their cigs away and then head straight for the surgery room. They did not appear to wash their hands or freshen up! The reception staff made occasional slip ups with mentioning private client details with a clear voice that could be heard across the reception area. My surgeon was g ...  More...

I had Epi-Lasek done to both eyes on 21/12/04 by Dr G Mathen at Manchester Surgery. The procedure itself was painless, I thought that I may start panicking but I was totally relaxed throughout, in fact having your teeth cleaned at the dentist is a lot worser. My Husband came in with me (not usual procedure) but was unable to hold my hand so instead watched by eyes on a TV monitor. After the procedure I could read about 5 lines down on the eye chart (before I could not see any). I felt fine afterwards but about half an hour afterwards my eyes felt really heavy and I had to close them then they began constantly streaming. The pain was not too bad more of a stinging sensation. I went straight t ...  More...
