Had bilateral Lasik last wednesday with Dr Hynes at the Manchester clinic. My eyes were uncomfortable for about 2 hours afterwards but it was bareable, I now have near on perfect sight. After wearing glasses for the past 16 years, being able to see the alarm clock in a morning is great... no more squinting. I would definately recommend this proceedure, as did many of my friends to me.

Hi. I had bi-lateral Lasik at Manchester yesterday with Dr Hynes. I was not looking forward to the proceedure at all but can say it was worth the 5 or so minutes of discomfort ( so far anyway!). As soon as I sat up I could see relatively clearly but had trouble keeping my eyes open, this passed about 2 hours later. The gritty feeling lasted until about 5pm ( i had the op at 1pm) but I have felt ok since. I keep getting blurring which I believe is normal, however I went back today and they said I have better than 20/20 vision, although I have found my eyes are not used to working together to focus on small text, on reading the info again this is normal and should clear up in the next week or ...

I contacted Optimax for info on the implantable contact lenses and was told (by email, no consultation) that LASIK was best for me. I was asked for my phone number which I emailed to them. I received a call at a bad time and asked them to call back. I then rang them back the next day as they had not called me and was told they would ring me straight back. There has now been no contact from them for over a month.
They may be fantastic at eye surgery, they may not, who knows, but I am afraid I would not entrust my valuable eyesight to people who fail so miserably on the administration side.
Very disappointing.

Had lasek at Birmingham clinic yesterday. All went well. I was in agony yesterday after anaesthetic wore off so stayed in bed all day. Woke up this morning and eyes were very sticky and had problems getting them open to put drops in. After I applied the drops they were fine, no pain and have been able to read newspaper and attempted to watch a bit of tv but had to keep closing my eyes. Eyes are very red at the moment but it's clearing up. I am able to see clearly and am glad I had it done.

Had the operation done, slightly scary but not to bad. Its just a bit weird having a new sensation of people messing around inside your eyes... no pain, eyes were really watery after op. Woke up the next morning and saw the alarm clock without any aids ;-) things are still a bit blury, but not to bad, a fair amount of night vision / halo round lights at the moment, but hopefully this will get better in time. I have a post op 1 week checkup next week in Glasgow. I'm not sure if they've managed to bang the nail on the head yet only time will tell. I had Lasek at Croydon carried out by Dr Hoe who as absolutely excellent and very confidence inspiring. The pain started about 45 mins after surgery and therefore I took the sleeping pills and went straight to bed when I got home. When I woke up after 3 hours the pain had virtually gone and my vision was slightly cloudy but a lot better than I expected. The day after England were playing their first game in Euro 2004 and Optimax said I won't be able to watch TV. But I experienced none of the sensitivity to light and was able to sit and watch the match. Having had the bandage contact lenses out 3 days later my eyes were confirmed as driving standard - although I had taken the week off wor ...

I had epi-lasik on both my eyes at the beginning of Septmeber at Optimax in Manchester. Yes, it was painful and it took a week for me to see properly. I was two days in bed with my eyes closed. Optimax had explained about all these problems that I experienced, so I knew what to expect. I followed all their advice and didn't expect too much too soon. Needless to say, it's now been 3 months and my vision is excellent. I still get dry eyes at night, but that's getting better too. Optimax were very friendly, helpful and professional throughout. Anyway I did it and I can put my hand on my heart and tell you it is the best thing ever. I had my final check up earlier this year and have got better that 20/20. All I can say is it worth every single penny I paid. No pain either, what a result. Worst thing was no make up for 3 weeks after!!! Good luck to anyone considering this operation. Go for it and enjoy better vision. xxx

I had Epi Lasik treatment by Dr Shah at the Manchester clinic on 5th November 2004
I was impressed that Dr Shah thoroughly talked me through the proceedure, explaining what type of sight I could expect to gain, as I had a very small prescription. I was advised to seriously consider my options, I actually got the impression that Dr shah was trying to put me off the treatment, but found this reassuring that Optimax wasn't just after my money - to be honest, I was on such a high about getting my eyes done that day, that I had already decided that I would proceed.
Before the treatment, my main concern was how I would cope with wearing the contact bandage lenses. This was because I h ...

Went to Optimax, Leeds last Saturday 6th November, what a roller coaster of emotions, I was so nervous. We arrived an hour early, saw the street sign 'Headway' and parked on a meter, which was about £2 for five hours, (if I remember correctly, cheap on a Saturday).
We literally walked across the road and found Optimax, so a little further along (west) found the Cafe Nero and it allowed smoking, managed to force a sandwich down and waited.
I had been to the Docs previously to get something to take to calm me down, he gave me Diazepam 2mg 12 tablets, decided not to take one yet, incase they said I couldn't have it done.
Anyway, consultation at 1.30pm, £60 the receptioni ...

I am giving this 5 stars as the result and the aftercare has been wonderful, but I have to say I would give only 2 stars for customer care prior to the surgery. My story is this: I had consultation with Dr Patel @ Finchley Road back in August, for proposed bilateral LASIK surgery. Found the initial customer service at the clinic very average and the topography consultation very quick with nothing explained. The actual consultation with Dr Patel consisted of a thorough eye test. He didn't chat much and didn't make any eye contact which left me feeling like it was an impersonal service, just another conveyor belt treatment. Also, he gave me some advice in response to a question a ...

I had laser eye surgery yesterday at Optimax in Newcastle. I have to say the whole experience was excellent. After the treatment I had a real burning sensation which lasted about four hours. I can only compare it to a similar feeling of tear gas or pepper spray - although I had never had that either. Today I feel fantastic and I would say my eyes are about 95% correct with a little gritty feeling occasionally only in one eye. They said this could last weeks so I am very grateful. Like many, my experience with Optimax / LASEK was an excellent one. The consultation was informative, and everything was professional. As I had read about other people’s experiences, I was prepared for the procedure. I’m not going to go into the details about the procedure, as others have described it better, but for your information I chose to have both eyes done at once. In the week that followed, my left eye was slightly overcorrected, and my right was 20/20.
About two weeks following my aftercare treatment I not ...

I too had Lasik at Aberdeen on the 26th March and found the surgeon very uncommunicative. The girls very nice and answered all questions but I got the feeling that the surgeon really wanted me in and operated on straight away. The actual op itself was not too bad, the blind bit is a bit disconcerting and then being told to look at the light to find there was an orange one and a red one, well I felt like I had to ask questions all the time to get the answers when I was hoping that a the surgeon would volunteer information. After getting both eyes done and sitting in the recovery room there was no miraculous 20/20 vsion , but fog. I could read the number plate of a car at 10 feet so that was o ...

Had bi-leteral epi-lasek at Bristol (Dr. Mundasad) on 25th March. My prescription was -3.25 with 1.00 astigmatism in each eye.
It is now 10 days later and I am delighted with the result. Sight (not re-tested yet) is as good if not better than previously with contacts. Eyes tire and become abit sore and 'scratchy' by end of day but this is slowly improving.
Consultation was not at all pushy. Warned that because of my age (48) I would need reading glasses afterwards.
In fact at the moment my near vision is fine so might get away without! Advised to have bandage lenses because in the Doctors experience it cut down the risk of 'haze'.
Procedure went fine - abit scarey ...

I had bilateral LASIK at the Aberdeen branch of Advanced Laser Eye Clinic last month by Dr Kalognomas. I can not recommend the clinic highly enough - I would award 6 stars if I could! I had a really high perscription (-8.5) before treatment, but can now easily see the bottom line of the chart - 20/20!!!!!! I can now drive, play golf and swim without the need for glasses and lenses. I was really concerned about the complications of treatment, however the clinic staff and the doctor were more than happy to discuss all my un-necessary worries.

what can i say, i am amazed, in fact totally amazed, got lasik on 19th march 2004 at Glasgow optimax by Dr Anwar, b4 lasik i had approx prescription of -6 left eye -5 right and bad stigmatism both eyes. After the surgery i could not open my eyes, nothing to do with pain but the fact that the tears blinded me when i tried to open my eyes, this scared me a little cos the guy next to me after surgery had lasik b4 me and was sitting with his eyes open. I honestly found it hard to open my eyes for first couple of days, there was very little pain involved just uncomfortable was the problem. Went to my checkup the next day and was totally delighted to be told i had 2020 vision. I was told b4 op tha ...

I had LASEK/Epiflap performed on me at the Finchley Road branch by Dr. Almasri on the 14th January 2004 - and here's my little story.
My old prescription was -4 and -4.5 with about 1.5D of astigmatism in each eye - enough to mean the floor was a useless blur and losing my glasses rendered me mostly helpless. I'm 27 now and had been wearing them since about age 10 and contact lenses for the last few years. The contacts became less and less comfortable and eventually I was back on glasses - then I broke them last year and decided the time had come to do something about this.
I went to a free consultation at Accuvision first, where it was confirmed that I had few 'higher order ...

It's been exactly a year since I had lasik at the Finchley Road Clinic with Dr Patel. Best decision and money very well spent. It has completely changed my life. My prescription before surgery was -0.4 in both eyes. I had the suegery done separately for each eye.Healing process went very well, no complications. Night vision OK.

Hello all - I am due to attend Finchley Road clinic in a few weeks time for epi lasek treatment. I have been told that my consultation & treatment (if I feel brave enough to continue!)will be carried out by Dr Islam.
My prescription os approx -3.75 in both eyes. Can anybody give me any help / experiences with the clinic / consultant? After reading / researching various websites I seem to be changing my mind day to day!!
Any information would be most gratefully received!!

I had laser eye surgery perfomred on Thursday 26 of Feburary. The operation itself wasn't as bad My perscription was -3.50 and -4.00. I noticed after the surgery i could see an improvement in my eyes and was delighted. I am 19 and was so scared of something going wrong.
I had very big pupils and have noticed the halos and glare at night. It something i can put up with as i have been told it will go away.
I was told at the clinic the day after that I have dry eye but keep using luberication and it will go away.
My biggest disappointment is that i'm have noticed that it is hard to read things up-close and the clinic told me that they over-corrected me. They said that th ...

I had bilateral epi-flap surgery 5 weeks ago at optimax manchester, the surgeon was Dr Steven Doyle. My prescription was -8.5 in both eyes currently my eyesight is 6/5 (better than 20/20 vison). I have a check up in two months time, hopefully things will stay this way. As for the surgeon Steven Doyle I highly recommend him, explained everything thoroughly and was very happy to answer any questions. Ultimately the decision to proceed with surgery is a personal one but for me it was money well spent, I would definatley recommend it.

I am pleased to report that I had epi-flap at Birmingham performed by Dr Gopee on 21st Feb, prescription -2.75 left and -2.50 right, no astigmatism. Immediately following treatment, I left the laser room elated and three days on, consider the £850, the best money ever spent. I sincerely wish I had plucked up courage years ago.

I wore glasses and contacts but couldn't keep contacts in for more than about 6 hours before they felt uncomfortable. The procedure was painless and straightforward, afterwards I was in severe pain for about 3 hours, after that I felt uncomfortable for the rest of the day and then the next day I felt a lot better. I have experienced none of the complications that I read about (I was worried about dry eyes due to problems with contacts but have not had to use any drops). If you follow this website you've read description of surgery few hundred times already, so I'm not going to get into details.

I had epi-lasek treatment at Optimax in Leeds a week last Friday (6th Feb). The doctor was Dr Samuels. My prescription was about -4.50 short sighted. The treatment went fine, although the pain kicked in on the journey home as the anaesthetic eye drops wore off. I would recommend taking some pain killers while you are in the clinic, after the operation has taken place. I also found that I was really snotty for the first hour or so with a runny nose which appears to be an initial side effect straight after the op.
Once I got home I took the painkillers and sleeping tablets and fell asleep about 20 minutes later. The pain is like a strong ...

I underwent laser surgery to correct mild short sightedness in December 2000. This was at Optimax in Finchley Road. I was initially delighted with the results and had trouble free vision for about two years. However, I gradually started to notice a deterioration in my sight. Eventually, I went for an eye test, only to find that my left eye had reverted back to being -1 and my right eye to -0.5. That is a low level of myopia but still I had to purchase some glasses as the problem seemed to be getting worse.
I contacted the clinic, who simply said they could not do anything as I had signed a disclaimer form, in which they state that they cannot guarantee continued good vision. Of course ...

I am booked in at optimax on saturday 21st feb to have (all being well) epi lasek. My surgen is Dr Samuels. I havent read any testimonials on him. I would be very interested on any comments anyone would have.
My main concern is wearing the bandage lenses afterwards. My eyes dont tolerate contacts very well. It is written that the lenses reduce the after pain considerably. Has anyone had epi lasik done without the lenses? My husband is taking a few days off work to look after me so not seeing for a bit longer is not the problem it is the pain. Please Please send me any info you have. I will post again post op!

I would be rather cautious about using Optimax. I had a consultation with them in London (Dr Patel) last month. I was delighted to be told that I was an 'ideal candidate' for LASIK. However, taking advice from many of the posters on this and other sites, I sought second and third opinions. I have subsequently had (much more thorough) consultations with Boots and Ultralase who both told me in no uncertain terms that I was a poor candidate for LASIK, due to lack of corneal thickness. Both told me that they would refuse to carry out LASIK on me, and advised me that PRK or LASEK may be suitable, but that as they do not offer it I would have to look elsewhere. The Boots guy actually told me I'd b ...

Heya,
There's a posting in Optimax's forum saying:
"During the conversation, I was led to believe that I will have to provide my own eyesight test for them to work off, whereas I was expecting that Optimax would do an eye test during the consultation, which would then be used to calibrate the Laser."
Which is complete nonsense and would misguide people... they just want an old test to check things havn't changed since.
Just thought you'd like to know etc,

I had a very high prescription of -10 in both eyes, however by the day following surgery my eyes were already driving standard. Hopefullly they should improve even more over the next month. My main side effect has been the brightness of lights in the dark, with a "halo" being emitted from them. I expected this to some degree though, since my pupils were very large (about 8.5mm). It doesn't prevent me from driving at night though, which was my main concern, and hopefully this will also improve with time. The pre-surgery consultation was apparently to check if my eyes could biologically be able to withstand the surgery (i.e corneal thickness etc) not specifically to do an eye test. I was a candidate for LASEK or LASIK, but chose LASEK due to the lesser risk. The treatment itself is painless and over in a matter of minutes. I guess the smell of the cornea burning or the crackling sound of the machine could be a little disconcerting, but overall there is nothing to worry about. Once finished, you can happily get up & walk out, elated in that you notice an instant significant improvement.
