    • Wavefront IntraLasik with Intralase
I had worn glasses since age 12 and was short-sighted to about -2.5. Since having the Wavefront Intralasik treatment I now have better than 20/20 vision - alomst 16/20. I was warned that because of my age (43) I might need reading glasses straight away, but so far I haven't needed them and can read, use the computer etc - even thread a needle (just about!). So I am entirely free of glasses/contact lenses which is brilliant!

I had my surgery done at the Cambridge branch of Optical Express.

The day of surgery went very smoothly. I had been told to expect to be at the clinic for several hours, but in fact I was in and out in just over an hour! The procedure was extremely quick - there was no pain at any stage - no injections - just drops to anaesthetise the eyes. The longest part of the procedure was cutting the flap in the cornea. I opted to pay extra to have this done by the ultralase machine, rather than the surgeon. After creating the flaps in both eyes, he then carried out the laser correction. It all seemed quite quick and I believe I was in an out in under 10 minutes. You lie back in a chair and have to keep focussing on a light. It's is a bit disconcerting as at one point during the procedure, your vision goes a bit black and you can only dimly see the light - but you are talked though it all and told what to expect, and it only lasts a moment.

After I left the surgery - wearing my sunglasses in December(!) - I went straight home. Initially I felt fine - my eyes were a bit heavy. I began to feel worse once the anaesthetic wore off a couple of hours later. The worst it ever got though was a gritty, watery feeling. I took two paracetomol and went to bed - wearing the eye-mask I had been given. After two hours sleep, my eyes felt moreorless o.k. again.

Six weeks later all is fine - no problems at all. My vision is great - I just wish I'd had it done sooner!
