I went into this Laser eye surgery initially with enthusiasm and then with fear and trepidation and regret. I perhaps would have pulled out of the procedure if I hadnt already paid the £3000+ fee. I had opted for the Lasik Intralase (most expensive, quickest and safest method). I was anxious about some bad reviews I had read and the drastic irreversible description of the procedure in the no-nonsense literature the OE give you to read and make you sign. The procedure itself was not that painful though you should read up about it to prepare yourself. The staff were friendly and professional though I detected a hint of impatience at my hesitation and squeamishness. Immediately afterward I was ...  More...

In April of this year I went up to Bristol from Torquay for my treatment. I had Tom Matterman as my surgeon and I can't praise him enough. I did a lot of research before and after deciding to go ahead. I even watched youtube videos - I wouldn't recommend that, lol. Anyhow, it took just over 10 mins to do both eyes and was a breeze, I was slightly nervous, but having broken down on the way up , got rid of the majority of nerves while waiting for the AA. You are explained everything and the drops are so good you don't feel anything. When you have had the treatment, your eyes feel sensitive to light, so you will need sunglasses. But there is no pain, just a bit of discomfort for a couple o ...  More...

I had my surgery on the 14th Aug at Optical Express, Bluewater. I found the staff really friendly when I arrived and they really do put you at ease. The worst part is having to wait for your turn but you do get to speak to the Consultant before the procedure to answer any questions or concerns you have. I found the actual procedure totally painless and it only takes a few minutes each eye. My special thanks to Mr Osama Giledi the Consultant who really made me feel at ease, he talked me through the whole procedure and the nurse is also by your side for the whole time. After one week I can't believe how good my vision is, I would recommend this to anyone, I wish I'd done it sooner! Thanks ...  More...

I even got a discount which helped no end as the treatment is quite expensive! I did alot of research before deciding on optical express and feel sure i made the right decision. I had the treatment two days ago at the Trafford Centre in Manchester and now I can see perfectly! Many thanks to Andre the surgeon and all the staff there. The staff were very friendly and reassured me as I was looking quite nervous beforehand! No pain/eye dryness involved during the procedure, I was kept well informed during the procedure (like what I would see e.g. "it'll go a bit dark now" ... not all the actual details, that might have freaked me out a bit!) I had to change my 24 hour check up appointment to the Bolton branch because of the snow, this was easy to do and the Bolton staff were just as friendly and helpful. Overall I'd recommend Optical Express to anyone.  More...

Being 62 years old I was originally disappointed to learn, after my original assessment, that I would need reading glasses afterwards - swapping distance glasses for reading ones didn't seem like such a good deal. However, some months later I decided to go ahead - after all, reading glasses are a lot cheaper and wearing glasses indoors less hassle than out and about. My surgery was with Mrs Mcgraw in Southampton. The procedure was painless and straightforward, although somewhat stressful, not least trying to keep ones eyes totally still. The staff were generally helpful although on arrival I was parked in front of a television for half an hour with no further information - not good when you'r ...  More...

I had laser surgery at optical express 2 weeks ago and I am very happy with it. I was very short-sighted, was -10 and -10.5, plus I had astigmatism as well. And now I can see perfect! The surgery didn´t hurt at all and only lasted 15 minutes, although I have to admit it was a bit weird to be wide awake and completely consious of what was going on. Anyway, the impontant part is the results, and I am very glad I don´t need to use glasses or contact lenses any more. I still can´t believe it when I wake up in the mornings and don´t need to look for my glasses any more! It´s amazing!  More...

***4 WEEK UPDATE*** Almost a month on and my sight is superb. No dry eyes or halo's at night. I was treated by Mr Tom Matterman at Bristol Cribbs Causeway. I cannot rate this surgeon highly enough. You only get one set of eyes and boy was I apprehensive about having treatment. This surgery is life changing. For the first time in my life I can walk in the rain without steaming up!! Go for it. If anyone is feeling nervous or unsure before booking a consultation please contact me and I will be happy to talk through my experience and answer any questions. Six Month Update!!! Almost six months in and I cannot believe how great my sight is. Any initial worries were completely unfounded and my sight is second to none. I cannot rate the treatment or the Bristol clinic highly enough. The surgery was painless and my surgeon Mr. Tom Matterman at Bristol very professional and skilled. You only get one set of eyes. I was very nervous of what was about to happen. I had no need to worry and now have better than 20/20 vision! The difference in just being able to wear sunglasses and walk in the rain without steaming up is fantastic! I had surgery carried out in April 2008 on both eyes by Optical Express in Inverness. Following surgery my right eye cornea displaced, so I contacted Optical Express and arranged an appointment. My plane was delayed and I was told I could not be seen, and would need to make another appointment. By the time I was seen for corrective treatment my cornea had been displaced for a week. Following this I was experiencing severe ghosting in my right eye. I reported this in August 2008 and an Optical Express optometrist recommended me for surgeon review for an enhancement procedure in my left eye. The surgeon review declared there was nothing to treat in either eye. In frustration I turned to the N ...  More...

I have now been discharged as a patient just 4.5 months after having surgery. My consultant does not want to see me again unless there are any problems which he does not envisage. This has been such a life changing experience for me as I have had to wear glasses for the last 25 years every day. Now that is a thing of the past even though I still get 'ghost glasses syndrome' now and again!! The staff in the Inverness branch were superb I could not fault their dedication to the job. From my initial consolation to see if I was suitable for the procedure, to last check up, they were so welcoming and friendly.Prior to making inquiries I was not aware that you could have lazer eye surgery done in I ...  More...

I had Lasik eye treatment, then told I could have another type of treatment, but they would be unable to carry out the new process until another date, which I felt was another type of hard selling to get more money out of me. Then bells started ringing were they just after my money. Thats when the whole process became a nightmare for me.When I asked why the last minute change i was told this would be down to the surgeon, and they could not comment.  More...

I attended Bristol Clinic on Wednesday 28th April. We drove up from Plymouth and had arrived at 2.pm I was told that I could be there as long as 3 hours. However as it was I was seen very quickly, they double check my eyes before surgery I completed my consent form, then met Mr Tom Materman my surgeon and discussed any questions I might have had, but to be trufthful I read the information so many times i just wanted the proceedure done. I waited outside for about 10-15 minutes, then I was called in for surgery. I was explained and shown exactly what would happen through the procedure before Mr Materman came in. Once he attended the procedure was as exactly as I have been informed a few ...  More...

I had my surgery at Optical Express in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol. I felt welcome and calm all the way through the prelimanary tests and the surgery I had on the day of the treatment. I cannot fault the care and reassurance I was given by all the staff at Optical Express. The procedure itself was completely painless with no discomfort at all. The only point I would like to make is:- I live 2 hours away from Optical Express in Cribbs Causeway, and on the rather sunny drive home, the anesthetic eventually wore off and my eyes began to sting like I was peeling onions.... This was very uncomfortable for a total of about 3.5 hours, even 2 pairs of sunglasses did not help. Once I had laid down in a ...  More...

Initial consultation took place in Inverness and it was eventually decided that my prescription was too high for laser surgery, left eye -8.45 and right eye -11.00. Taking into account my age (65) it was decided that refractive lens exchange would be the best option and a consultation appointment was made at Princes Street in Edinburgh. I saw Dr Mantry and explained that I needed to be able to drive at night, I also spend a couple of hours a day at the computer and I am an avid reader! For many years, my short sight has been slightly under-corrected on the right eye to enable me to read without varifocals, so we agreed on fixed focus lenses with the right eye being slightly under correcte ...  More...

My experience with Optical Express was very mixed. My surgeon Susanna Boytha was incredibly good and put me at ease from start to finish and this was helped by the fantastic nurse who calmed me down and held my hand throughout the whole procedure. The next day I was able to see perfectly and found out my vision was already better than 20/20 at my check up! Sadly, the surgeoun and her team were completely let down by the customer service I recieved. Every single time I went to the clinic they had no idea who I was or what I was in for, I did not recieive a single thing in the post, including a receipt even though I phoned numerous times to check they had my address right. I had my consultations in Torquay where staff were able to check my suitability and talk me through all of the surgery before I went ahead with it. After deciding it was what I wanted, they booked me in for the Bristol clinic and my surgeon was Tom Mattermann who is very proffesional and well educated on the subject, putting me at ease straight away. All the staff at Bristol were extremely friendly and helped put mine (and my Mum's) mind at rest before the surgery. After over 20 years of glasses and contacts I had my eyes lazered in Bristol at Cabot Circus on the 13th March. We traveled up by train fron Exeter and stayed at the Future Inn opposite. Everyone was very friendly and made me feel comfortable. My surgeon was Waseem Aziz. He and his team were very profesional. The actual treatmeant lasted all of ten minutes and it was done! The local anaesthetic wears off very quickly tho and it is just as they describe it....sand in your eyes. This was VERY uncomfortable for a couple of hours and was at least five hours before I could really open my eyes poperly so its a good idea to have someone with you. That said my vision was already amazing and that nig ...  More...

Excellent customer service - I was terrified of the treatment however after wearing glasses and contacts for 30 years decided to take the plunge. I am so glad I did, the surgery was painless just a bit of discomfort for a few hours afterwards with watery, gritty eyes which once cleared I was amazed at how quickly the result of the surgery was. From the initial consultation to the surgery and follow up appointments all I can say is I was made to feel totally relaxed and not a number on a list, the service I have been given in my estimation is fantastic, any questions I had were answered simply and uncomplicated so I knew exactly what to expect. I had a very good experience with Optical Express in Bristol. The surgeon was Tom Matterman who I found to be friendly and the nurses were also very good at letting you know what was happening and keeping you calm.  More...

I had my treatment at Cribbs Causeway on 12/01/2010 and my surgeon was Mr Tom Materman. The procedure itself was painless, it was uncomfortable for a couple of hours after - streaming eyes. I kept my eyes closed all the way home and was very light sensitive. The best way to describe it is it felt like I had just peeled a very strong onion. The next day my vision was excellent. The only discomfort I have had since the procedure has been dry eyes at night. The hardest part of this procedure has been trying to get my head around the whole thing, after all these years of struggling with contacts and glasses (prescription -8.75), spending less than an hour in Optical Express all of that has ...  More...

Fantastic results, the surgeon Tom Mateman was really good and explained every thing. My eye sight is now above the 20/20 bench mark and was within 18 hours of having it done. My eyes were only uncomfortable on the day and after that the discomfort really was minimal I would recommend this to every one!  More...

I have Wavefront Intralsae Lasic with the Optical Express Southampton clinic in December 2009 following consultation at the Horsham branch in the middle of the year. I initially had consultations with Optical Express and Ultralase to make a comparison between the two companies. I did find optical express a little bit more salesy and thought that the Ultralase set up in Guildford looked more professional as it was in a separate building rather than a shoppiong centre. After lots of reading reviews and research i decided that there was no benefit in paying £1200 more for what seemed the same treatment at Ultralase - they did hard sell their lifetime care plan which when you read into it do ...  More...

The procedure itself was pretty scary I thought, but I had worked myself up a bit. The staff at Southampton branch were all brilliant, very professional. The 15 mins after the procedure were fine, the 1/2 hour journey home was fine (sunglasses, eyes closed), but the following 6 hours were horrible. Any light at all was excruciating and even lights off, curtains closed, sunglasses on and eyes closed didn't help. Advice I'd read to sleep it off was impossible, I didn't know what to do with myself. My mouth was incredibly dry (due to the anaesthetic drops maybe?) so I was constantly drinking water for the 6 hours and the numerous trips upstairs to the bathroom on hands and knees with eyes ...  More...

Had consultation and surgery at Inverness clinic. Very friendly and honest. I was at the top of the scale that they could do so I had to be referred to a consultant before I could be recommended. I was able to have the surgery done a few months later as I had been wearing hard contact lenses for years and had to give my eyes a rest. The lasek procedure is simple but you do feel ill the next day. However, the Inverness clinic were fantastic when I called up to say I was feeling ill and I went in for a check up straight away and left very reassured that all was well. With Lasek you cannot see clearly straight away and it took me about a month before I was happy with my vision so be patien ...  More...
