They had trouble getting the metal ring in my eyes.......sounds grim but I think I was nervy after a 5 hour wait (they were running very late that day!) I had Lasik surgery at Bluewater on 13/12/2006. My surgeon was Wayne Crewe-Brown, a truly excellent surgeon. I debated for a huge period of time before having the surgery, but decided it was right for me and went for it. Had the consultation at Chelmsford, that was all fine. Having previously spoken to my regular optician, I had decided that there was no benefit to me having Wavefront and decided to go for the standard treatment, which was accepted immediately without any hard sell from my laser counsellor. I am delighted to have had the procedure. I had wanted to have the laser procedure for a number of years but was anxious about someone interfering with my eyes.However I was reassured by the optician and the high tech equipment. I opted for wavefront Lasik and have been really happy with the results - I have 20/15 vision - better than 20/20. The actual operation was quite painful but it was worth it as I could immediately see with great clarity. The service was excellent and the staff very helpful. Clinic Nottingham. Surgery on 19/09/06 Well what can I say? I moaned for the first couple of weeks because I couldn't see properly. It was like blinking over some grit with soap BUT the eyedrops were a blessing. It's now been over 6 weeks since my operation. I went to the Meadowhall branch where they were all absolutely fantastic. The receptionist greeted me immediately and knew who I was without any introduction (impressive!) She looked after me straight away. Had Wavefront Lasik on Saturday 4th Nov. The surgery was painless and the worst bit was the suction ring on the eye. More uncomfortable and a weird sensation than painful. About an hour after the surgery I could hardly open my eyes and they felt quite sore, 2 painklillers and an hours sleep and I was well enough to go for a meal in the hotel. Woke up next day with dry eyes but good vision. Read 2 lines better than 20/20 the next day and have had no problems. Eyes feel tired/strained for first week, but settling down now. I consulted this forum after my initial consultation and after my Intralase Wavefront surgery, which was carried out yesterday, I wanted to add some comments and observations which may be useful to anyone considering this procedure. In all I found the customer relations a little disappointing, for the most part I really felt like part of a conveyor belt. I am very squemish as far as eyes are concerned and was incredibly nervous beforehand. All the way through the customer service I received was great right from the consultation to the after care as well. The surgery went well and all the staff were very friendly. I dealt with Giles(cross street, manchester) for the aftercare and consultation and he is great at what he does. I would recommend eye surgery to anyone considering it. I originally attended optimax glasgow and was told my corneas were too thin and i was only eligible for lasek (the sore one!)I was a bit ambivilent and was sent away to think about it. Iong story..... eventulally didnt go back to optimax but had my consultation in Glasgow optical express. There I was told I was suitable for lasik and that my corneas were "not even close to being too thin" This was encouraging as I had not expected it. From the moment I walked into the Nottingham branch till after my procedure, (Lasik - Intralase) I was looked after by all the team in a tremendously polite, friendly and professional manner that you would find impossible to beat in any establishment. I had Lasik at Newcastle on 7th Nov at a cost of £695 per eye (which is about what I was expecting). My appointment on the day was for 8.30 am, and by 10.00 am I was in the car being driven home. The staff were very good, obviously used to being asked silly questions and dealing with overly nervous patients. As for the procedure itself, having the flap cut was very unpleasant although not painful, but the laser was no problem (despite a smell like hair burning while the 2nd eye was done)and having the flap smoothed down was weirdly soothing. I had my surgery on November 5th and I wish I had it done sooner! Good vision all round and dont have to worry about spex anymore. I nearly didn't have it done as I got put off by various negative comments with regards the prices being quoted, all I will say is read the adverts properly, they all say from £395 PER eye! Had my treatment in Birmingham Optical Express four weeks ago with the standard procedure, and my vision is perfect two lines better than driving standard (20/20). Treatment was very quick (Approximately 3 minutes per eye) And could notice the difference immediately. I experienced no pain whatsoever. And recovery has been fast and without any problems. Its now 48 hours since I had my treatment and apart from some grittiness (which is relieved with the lubricant drops) and still some sensitivity to light, I feel fine. My prescription - was –5.50 in both eyes, no astigmatism. Clinic – Optical Express, Bluewater. Surgeon – Stefan Klopper. I had LASIK Wavefront treatment. I had lasik wavefront on 16th November form Optical Express Manchester. The whole experience was excellent, all the staff were helpful and friendly. The service was efficient. I had excellent vision within 24 hours. I am delighted with the change this has made to my lifestyle already - it is great being able to see!! When I first thought about laser eye surgery I was very apprehensive but I researched Optical Express and eventually came for a consultation. My mind was put at rest during the initial interview and I took the plunge. I opted for the less invasive but initially more uncomfortable Lasek procedure. Great all round.. after 3 weeks I dont use any eye drops and my eyesight is pretty well 40/20 in both eyes. The experience is now way near as bad as everyone says. The operation is done quickly , the only discomfort is the pressure on the eyeball which is not painful, just uncomfortable and only for a minute or two so DONT PANIC!! After the operation you can see straight away although the anti inflammatory drops make your eyesight a little milky and you are a little light sensitive. I was conditionally approved surgery in February of this year, but had to wait till April as my latest prescription was only 10 months old. I went on holiday in April and only came back in May. Well so far so good! After 18 years of wearing hard contact lenses, much soul searching, reading and research I have finally decided to take the plunge. Optical Express were fantastic from start to finish. From my research they were in the middle range for price but for something important as this i deemed it necessary not to be a cheapskate! They have a lot of branches that can look after you which makes it very convenient and i had lasik suregy using wavefront technology. Surgery was like going to the dentist and having a tooth removed - glimpses of pain and nail marks in the reclining seat! I had my surgery done on Nov 1st at Bristol. I'm really impressed with the are from start to finish. I had my consultation at the Cardiff clinic, where they were really understanding and nice. They gave me all the info I needed. I thought it over for a few days, and then booked it. In between booking it and the actual surgery i got scared and rang up a few times double checking things, and each time they were really patient and understanding. I used to wear glasses, now I can function without them. Simple. Technology - 5. It worked perfectly. I had my surgery on Friday 3rd November at Bristol. Apart from the clamping which as everyone else has said is a very unusual feeling (not a good one I might add) everything else was brill. I went home and slept for about 4 hours and when I woke up I could see. At my follow up appointment at Cheltneham the next day I was already at driving standard but do not feel confident enough because I am still gettin blurred vision which as told is normal, just hope it clears up. I went to Optical Express in Bham first and was very unnerved by the hard sell, and what I felt was a very unprofessional approach. I had my surgery yesterday at the manchester clinic with Mr Waseem Azir. Although my vision is amazing and im really pleased with the results, all did not go as planned. Firstly once I had booked my surgery the customer service I received from head office and manchester cross street branch was terrible. I had to ring 3 times for my confirmation (which eventually had to be e-mailed the day prior to my surgery). Upon arrival I was also informed that the 10month payment plan had been put through on someone else's address so i faced the prospect of having to ring my bank to move money from my savings to pay for the surgery in full. Bit of a drama getting my cash back, took lots of phone calls, which left me a little concerned about how the overall experience would be. Had the standard one. The clamping and operation hurt. I wasn't expecting that, so I was a little bit shocked at the time. I was also in real pain with the eyes after the operation. I sat in bed the whole day with my eyes shut, listening to the England match. The tears that you cry (not caused by losing to Croatia) exacerbate the feeling of discomfort. However, after an ibuprofen, the discomfort subsided. I was just getting used to being looked after by my mum and enjoying being a beautiful and vulnerable blind boy, when, after about 6 hours, my eyes opened spontaneously. Has anyone else had the same problem as me? I didnt think my eyes were that bad but after a visit to optical express I feel absolutely devastated. Im short sighted with astigmatisim with a prescription of -3.25 r -1.25cyl and -2.00 -1.50cyl. Ive come away after being told that I not only have large pupils(?), thin cornea and night vision problems ( something again I didnt know I had) I like many others have seen the advertising for from £395. per eye. I have realistic expectations and didnt think Id be near that (probably around £700) but I have been quoted £1295.00 per eye!!! (this is the equivalent quote to Moorfields eye hospital!) I had my eyes done yesterday, I must say the the clamping of the eyes open for the procedure hurt a bit but it only felt like the operation took two minutes max. I didn't feel any pain or discomfort on the eyeball whatsoever and only once had a brief and faint smell of burning. While my eyelid felt like lead for the rest of the day the discomfort was minimal, I would liken it to wearing your contact lenses for too long and they are irritating you. I had Lasik Wavefront nearly 4 months ago. My left eye is 20/20 but my right did not go so well and after a referral to the surgeon for 'enhancement' of the right eye I was told I shouldn't bother as it may not end up any better - but possibly worse. I paid extra for wavefront as it was told it would enhance my night driving vision. It didn't. The imbalance between the vision in both eyes means my eyes get very tired and sore by the end of the day because they are competing with other to find a mean average. I had my surgery on Oct 7th and needless to say, I was very apprehensive about letting someone point a laser directly into my eyes having spent many years being told that this practice was not advisable. I can honestly say that at no point during the procedure was there any real pain, it was merely a discomfort. After the procedure, which took about 10 mins for both eyes, my short vision was excellent, although a little cloudy due to the administration of eye drops immediately after the surgery. I was really nervous about having the proceedure but was reassured by the staff at both the stockton and newcastle branches. the surgery was quick. I was in and out in 30 minutes. My eyes felt gritty and itchy afterwards but the next day my eyes were fine. I could see immediately after the surgery, my right eye was a little blurry but again the next day i was fine. Had Wavefront Lasik surgery at the Oxford branch on 6th October. Have to say, was fairly calm before hand due to reading many good reviews across this site, but that still doesn't prepare you for somebody cutting into your eye! It is, however, over very, very quickly. My eyes were very sore afterwards and couldn't bear to open my eyes for the next 4 or 5 hours. After a sleep in the afternoon though I felt a lot better, although still couldn't focus very well on anything. Following day had the first checkup and vision was better than driving standard, but my vision is noticably fluctuating. A little nervous before the operation but was confident of a successful result after reading many testimonials. After a lot of waiting i was finally called in. The only pain was the slight pressure applied to the eyeball, 10 mins later and it was all done. The surgeon told me everything had gone well. Had a check up the next day and had better than 20/20 vision. Its now 4 weeks on and i still have the same vision. Absolutely no regrets about having it done!  More...

Had Lasik with Wavefront in Glasgow on 25 August. Anticipation is far worse than the actual surgery. Was put at ease in Glasgow by the Laser Clinic staff straight away. Was told that to correct my long vision I would need reading glasses, which I accepted, however, six weeks on and my short (working) distance is still causing problems (images not clear and words with ghostly outlines). Told at check up still had dry patches on eyes and should get better. Has anyone had any similar symptoms and if so, what was the outcome.  More...

I had Lasek Wavefront treatment at Southampton (West Quay) Optical Express on 14th August 2006 to correct my short sightedness, the treatment came to just under £2000. I wasn't suitable for Lasik surgery because my cornea tissue was too thin, I was told at the initial Consultation recovery for Lasek was slightly more painful and lasted longer but I still went ahead regardless. The surgery was painless & only lasted 15 minutes, I had some pain that evening & further discomfort for three days until the bandage lenses were removed but I would definitely recommend the surgery to anyone as my eyesight is now fantastic & I have better than 20/20 vision in both eyes – no more contacts & ...  More...

The surgery itself was fine, very quick and relatively painless. The clamping was the only really uncomfortable part. After surgey, eyes were very uncomfortable, gritty and light sensitive. Very good service, staff are very considerate and knowledgeable. Surgery lasted a matter of minutes and was completely pain free. put up with the irritation after the aenesthetic wears off for a few hours and sleep as it is like a new lease of life when you wake up. Wow. I had my survey at the Bluewater store in March 2006. I sometimes still go to push my glasses up my nose but other than that I do not miss them at all. The services provided at the store were very fast and effective. I do however feel that the customer service provided there could have been a little better. A small price to pay for 20/20 vision in both eyes. The surgery itself was very fast. I was very nervous to say the least, after all you are putting your eyesight into the hands of a machine and a human. Please do not let this put you off. The best decision I ever nade. The difference is amazing. I would reccommend it to anyone considering it. There is nothing to worry about, it was painless and was over in less than 5 mins. Straight after the sdurgery I could see almost as clear as I could with my contacts, the only difference was my vision was slightly misty, which cleared up after a couple of hours... Its the simple things you notice, like being able to pluck your eyesbrows and actually be able to see the hair. The surgery was with out adoubt the best money I have ever spent. Today was my 4 month follow-up appointment. In general, very good results (20/10 vision!) however my eyes are still quite dry. had Lasek Wavefront surgery on the 29th April at the Birmingham clinic. So just over four months today… and what a journey it has been. First of all, I was expecting Lasik but because of my thin cornea and because of the fact I play ice hockey (Lasek is better for people who play contact sports), it was strongly suggested to have Lasek instead, which I accepted . I am having wavefront lasik for my +5 / +5.5 prescription in newcstle next week (£2590) not cheap, somebody tell me I am going to have great eyesight and finally say goodbye to contacts forever. Congratulations to all those who post their comments after 24 hours to say their eyesight is perfect - so did I. However, I had surgery in April and am booked in to have my left eye "done" again as the surgery caused astigmatism in both eyes which makes everything blurred. They reckon my right eye is not so bad but I think it will still need doing again so will wait and see how the left one goes. It's cost me a fortune in bus & train fares getting from Huddersfield to Leeds on a very regular basis for checkups prior to re-surgery. Having laser surgy was the best decision I have ever made, it has changed my life. At oxford optical express the staff are so friendly and caring, they make you feel really comfortable and calm about every aspect of the surgy. My surgeon - Stefan Klopper was great, he spoke calmly and made me feel relax about what was happening. I am nearly two months on now from my last comments. Have to say that it is lovely not wearing glasses or lenses. However, I have still variable vision. Some days its quite bad by evening with lots of blurring, although the eyedrops help. other days is perfect. I do worry about whether it will settle into the good or the bad version over time. They said I had longer to heal because I had to go back one week after surgery as I had 'creases' in both the flaps they had cut (Lasik). Do be aware that this is a possibility.
