An update on my last report. I had bilateral lasik done at Optical Express in Glasgow. At one week and one month appointment I had better than 20:20 vision. At my three month appointment two weeks ago I am now slightly short sighted. Not so much that I require glasses and the optician said that it would delay my need for reading glasses by a few years from when I might have needed them when my vision was better. I am still very happy with the results and hope my eyesight does not get any worse or I will go back and have it redone.

Have just been for a consulatation today at Newcastle.
They have suggested Lasek surgery with monovision.
I am concerned about recovery time(was hoping for Lasik)as self employed and could not be without work for long. Not sure about monovision and would like to hear from anyone who has had this done.

Has Lasek done 6 days ago at Birmingham branch. Mr George recommended Lasek as I had very thin corneas. Had heard stories of pain following procedure so was very nervous. However, no pain just grittiness and smarting of the eyes for 3 days. Found the smarting got worse after having had the bandage lenses out and could not bear light for about 12 hours after but now am fine. Vision is still a little blurry but fantastic improvement (-4.75 and -5.75 pre op). I still have a little discomfort in one eye - it feels like I have something in it - but on the whole am very pleased. Vision seems to be improving and I realise it is a slower process with Lasek so am hoping for fantastic vision in ...

I had LASIK done on 10th December in the Birmingham Clinic, with Dr George. My prescription was -4.25 in both eyes, which was too high to have mono treatment, and the scariest thing about the whole procedure for me was the fact that I did have both eyes done at the same time. The results so far, after 2 weeks, are amazing. I had better-than-20:20 vision after less than 24 hours, and this is still the case. The procedure was a bit nerve-wrecking, but absolutely painless. And it only takes a few minutes (nothing compared to the 3 hours we all had to wait in the waiting room), and immediately after I could read the time on the clock. Without my glasses, I wouldn't have even seen the wall, l ...

I went for LASIK surgery on the 24th November, and after being pursuaded by the surgeon, had LASEK. BIG MISTAKE!! I told the surgeon that I had just started a new job, and couldn't afford to take any time off - in the end, I had to take a week off. He also scared me with horror stories with LASIK. Everyone in the waiting room with me wanted LASIK, and everyone ended up having LASEK! It's now a month after surgery. I still can't read number plates and road signs, and have awful dry eye. I use a computer, which is blurry, and end up with headaches most days. I've also been told it can take up to 3 months for my vision to be perfect. I wasn't told about any of this before ...

I had LASEK surgery at the end of November in Bristol on boths eyes. My prescription was -1.25 and -2.25 with an astigmatism. My eyes were out of focus with one another and I was short sighted but through sheer laziness, I never took my glasses off and therefore ended up needing them for everything but sleeping! I went for the consultation in Cardiff which was just like a very thorough eye test taking about 1 hour. My eyes were very light sensitive after as they dilated the pupils but not uncomforable. When they said I could have the op I booked straight away and had to pay a £200 deposit. Nothing else needs to be paid until just before the surgery. I was very nervous as the date was ...

I have just finished reading other peoples post op comments and I am suprised at the lack of feed back for people who like me have had Lasek treatment. My first consultation was a year ago at Milton Keynes, they recommended Wavefont Lasek at Shaftsbury Avenue because of my occupation followed by post op treatment at Milton Keynes. I had my right eye done in January and decided to have my left eye done in October. I opted for mono vision at first but it didn't suit my lifestyle. I drive around 30,000 miles a year and take part in a lot of outdoor activities. The main problem I encountered was judging distances close up. If I worked in an office environment I would have stuck with mono. A ...

The proceedure took just a few minutes and was totally painless and dispite my misgivings was not at all scary. By next day had 20/20 vision and was able to drive without glasses for the first time ever! I am thrilled with the results of my treatment and the aftercare is superb. I had LASIK treatment and the operation was over in 20 minutes and by the next dat I could see perfectly.
1 week later and the dryness has stopped completely and I'm back to life as usual.
I have to remind myself that I'm not wearing contact lenses!
Highly recommended!
And the customer service is excellent. Everyone has been very helpful and so nice.
Thanks all.

Decided at surgery a few months ago. Looked at Ultralase and Optical Express. Firstly Ultralase seemed like a production line and wanted £6,000 for both me and my wife. Optical Express were £2,500. While a massive difference price cannot be the only factor. I actually went with Optical Express as I felt less pressure and more confident in their procedures.
Important point. Ultralase are not opticians. They only make money by selling laser surgery and it felt like that. Optical Express are opticians they sell glasses, contact lens and laser eye surgery.

Learnt to drive over a year ago but never went out at night as I didn't dare, starburst obscure too much. I started off approx -4 in both eyes and pupils measured at 5.5mm. On day of op for second eye pupil was remeasured at 6.5mm, Keith Williams decided to operate with a 5.5mm optical zone and a transition out to 6.9mm, saying it would be fine. It wasn't. However after 25 years of thick, heavy glasses I decided to go ahead with the surgery as even the possibility of wearing lighter, prettier glasses was an attractive option. At the age of 31 and feeling so happy with myself on the inside I decided it was time to be happy with my appearance.

Can I re-enforce to anyone who has to get lasek you will need a whole week to recover. 2 days of virtually no vision and a further 2 days of "scrathy eyes". I had lasik surgery at Optical Express in Southampton's West Quay yesterday (August 25). I have just been for my check-up and everything is fine. My surgeon was Mr Wayne Crewe Brown and I was short-sighted with a prescription of roughly -3.5 in both eyes. I also had fairly bad astigmatism. I was extremely nervous on the day of the operation and briefly thought about making a run for it, but I'm so glad I didn't. The operation itself is much easier than going to the dentist. It is totally painless and very quick. I had been especially nervous of the part of the operation where the flap is created, but this part was over before I could process what was happening to me. I had Lasik surgery on 10 August in Bristol. Everything has been carried out so professionally. The staff are both friendly and helpful. I have had no problems whatsoever. Definately no pain during or after the treatment. Very slight discomfort that's all. I could see clearly straight after surgery and haven't looked back since!! I was also needing reading glasses with my contact lenses but at present I don;t need them either. My only regret is that I didn't have it done years ago. Go on go for it!

I had LASIK correction performed by Mr Crewe-Brown at the Shaftesbury Ave clinic on 18 August and I am amazed at the results. I was -6.25 in both eyes and the following day I had 20:20 vision. The procedure itself was not the most pleasant thing ever but the surgeon and nursing team and were very friendly and put me at ease. I had very little discomfort - about 20 minutes of watery eyes - which stopped after the surgeon put drops in my eyes before I left the clinic. Since then I have had no problems and my eyes are only dry when I wake up in the morning. I paid £695 per eye but I think this is relatively cheap considering the benefits I will enjoy, and is also cheaper than the other quotes I ...

I had lasek done a week ago in Manchester. It was lasek on the advice on the surgeon because I had a fairly simple prescription and it sounds slightly less scary! It has all gone very well. My sight is already excellent, every bit as good as it was with lenses. 5 stars for the surgeon (Mr Aziz) and the opthalmologist. One star is lost because the other staff in Manchester were variable - some good, some didn't return calls, etc, and one was downright objectionable. The other star is lost due to the price advertising. They advertise "from £395", but my surgeon wouldn't normally treat anyone with a small enough prescription to qualify for this price! £595 per eye is a competitive price ...

The experience of the surgery itself is not much fun - they clip your eye open and shine bright lights in it - definitely not for the claustophobic - but there is no pain and the results are pretty much instantaneous.
In terms of outcome the surgery has been excellent - absolutely perfect vision - up from medium short sight and astigmatism. One slight side-effect is that lights at night "halo" slightly - which makes night driving difficult.
Optical Express staff were fantastic throughout - and the aftercare has been superb.
On balance, I would recommend it to anyone

I have to be honest and say that the procudure was not pleasant with some very uncomfortable sensations.

My Surgeon Mr K M Khan, can only be praised for his excellent ophthalmic abilities as can that off the entire staff. I now have 20/20 vision and could not recommend this procedure enough. If in doubt go and have a consultation!

Had Lasik surgery at Glasgow clinic and consultation/aftercare at Edinburgh clinic. The staff were friendly and very professional. The procedure was quick and painless, slight discomfort afterwards as my eyes felt very gritty and watery for a few hours. My vision is now better than 20:20. I would recommend optical express to anyone considering laser vision treatment. I would like to thank Dr Boytha and all the staff at Glasgow and Edinburgh laser clinics.

Prior to having the Bilateral Wavefront Lasik surgery in April 2004 I had worn glasses for about 8 years. Initially I had needed glasses for night driving and for definition in reading a screen at a presentation or movie, for example, but it developed to a point where I needed them all the time (albeit my prescription was relatively minor at -1.50/-1.75 (right) and -0.75/-1.50 (left). I am very physically active (golf, skiing, fitness) and found the hassle of glasses a major factor. I first became interested in eye surgery when I heard that Tiger Woods (Ranked No.1 professional golfer) had it done. I decided that for to him have the surgery, from a risk perspective involved hundreds of milli ...

I would highly recommend to anyone to have this done, after wearing glasses for two thirds of my life this has been a life changing expreience! Thanks to all involved at the Manchester and Leeds branches.

I had Wavefront surgery performed by Dr Eve on April 21. The surgery itself was superb and the aftercare excellent. Unfortunately the patient counsellor I had my consultation with gave some bad advice and on the day of the surgery the medical team advised against performing regular LASIK surgery due to the size of my pupils. I had to pay an extra £800 on the day to cover the cost of the more expensive Wavefront procedure. While I understand the reasons for this, my surgery was booked 3 months in advance.. surely I could've been contacted before then?
Aside from this I have been very impressed with the team at Optical Express.

I had Wavefront guided lasik 1 week ago (21-4-2005) at Shaftsbury Ave, London.
All the staff there were excellent, I had the proceedure performed at 12 midday and was able to leave at 2pm with all of my eye drops etc. The proceedure was painless, nothing more than some odd sensations followed by a gritty feeling for about 4 hours.
1 week on my vision is better than 20:20 I am absolutely thrilled by the transformation. If anyone is unsure about getting this done I would just say "Go for it" well worth the 1 day it takes. My night vision has some halos around lights but these are dissappearing by the day.

My treatment took place at the Birmingham Clinic, but all my check-ups and main support has been undertaken at the Nottingham Branch. I feel that I have to say that this has been an amazing experience, not much short of a mini miracle for me. I have worn glass`s since my early teens, and now, with very little discomfort after the operation, I find that I can see far better than I could have hoped for, and currently dont even need the reading glass`s ( at 47 yrs old thats not bad going !). I have been well looked after, especially by Judith who put my mind at rest initially and has supported me throroughly through the procces, and most particularly, by Pretti, a lovely woman who has inspired ...

Deliberation, dissection and discussion later, finally I mustered up the courage to have laser eye surgery. Initially, I ventured down to Ultralase, only to discover that they were unable to accommodate my needs as my prescription was too high and their equipment was unable to provide the microsurgery I required. Disillusioned, I walked away and was contemplating abandoning the whole idea, but decided a second opinion was in order.
LaserVision were able to perform the necessary surgery with new technology they had just acquired and my vision is now at perfection. What more could you ask for? Friendly, professional, advanced and highly recommended.

There are some niggling inconveniences in life that can be overcome with some money and a little faith. As a spectacle, and latterly contact lens wearer for 25 years or so, Lasik eye surgery is one of these things.
I felt that as the technology was basically proved over the last 10-12 years and the price was dropping as numbers picked up, this year was the time to investigate laser eye surgery. I sent off for details of the clinics offering the procedure in the Glasgow area and having read as much as I could on the subject, made an appointment at the Optical Express clinic in Renfield St. Glasgow.
The consultation is much like a contact lens eye test with a few more tests thrown in for ...

I went in for my 24 hour check-up and my eyesight was better than 20/20, although I had a small deposit of lipid (oil from eyelashes) under my right flap. I was nervous before the treatment, especially as the patient before me had just had some sort of fi in the waitng room and the nurses seemed a little at a loss as to what to do. However things went really well and by 8pm that evening I was happily watching TV. I've had no problems at all and no discomfort. I have just had my 1 month check and have more than 20/20 vision. Unless you are extremly desperate and have plenty of time & money to waste, don't bother. After 3 cancelled consulations, different verdicts of the conditions of my eyes depending on who you spoke to, then being told one day it could be done (of course once my deposit had been paid) and then a voice mail advising me that it couldn't - the day before surgery!
I feel I wasted a lot of time, telephone calls and not to mention the wasted holiday taken from work for nothing. For your info I am still waiting for my money back.
Went to Accuvision - 2 days later eyes were done.

I found the staff extremely supportive and informative. Every thing was explained in great detail. The only bad point is how long I was kept in the waiting room, didn't help the nerves much! Eyes taken about 5 days to settle. On the whole very impressed.

This is an update of a comment I wrote 6.8.04 after having found I couldn't have laser surgery since my left cornea showed a slight weak point. This was most likely due to overuse of lenses and I was told to go without them for a few more weeks and then try again. As I live abroad, a few weeks ended up being a few months and I decided to fly over for a long weekend and have enough time for lasik and a check-up the day after before returning to Norway. This was on the 13th Dec. the last day the Manchester clinic had planned to have operations before Christmas (and I would then have a check-up during the Christmas holidays). I was greeted like a long-lost friend which was very positive - t ...

I have Lasek surgery on the 21st January 2005. I arrived at the Manchester clinic at 2.15pm on the 21st and only had to wait a couple of minutes before I was seen. I had to have my eyes checked by the surgeon (Mr Khan) and then i was ready for my Surgery. It was a little stramge at first but the staff made me feel at ease and even held my hand as i was terrified. The surgery took about 14 minutes with the laser on each eye for just over a minute. The procedure was not painful although felt very strange. I could see a little clearer afterwards but was told that might sight would get better in the following days. I felt tired when i got home and went straight to bed. The morning after ...

I had lasik surgery 2.2.05, within 20 mins. i could read the eye chart without any problems. The staff at optical express are excellent, knowledgeable and without doubt first class. Slept well and awoke for the first time in 15 years being able to see t.v. without glasses. The surgery was painless and i have had no problems since. no discomfort or any pain. My sight is so very important and to walk down the street seeing without glasses is like a small miracle. I have told my friends all about the treatment, 2 of them are now going to have it done. There are minor risks but nothing like the scare stories the media tell us about. If you are thinking about it, just talk to the people who know. ...

I had bilateral lasik surgery at the Glasgow Clinic on Friday 28th January. I was quite nervous beforehand, but the team at the clinic put me at ease and made me feel very comfortable. The surgery itself was painless and over within 10 minutes and I was reading the clock in the surgery (before, I would have struggled to even see the clock!)Afterwards, my eyes were a little uncomfortable and as recommended, I kept them closed for a few hours. On opening them, any discomfort was gone and my vision was as good, if not better than with my contact lenses. My check up on Saturday morning confirmed that my vision was much better than that required for driving - and hopefully, should continue to ...

I had Lasik surgery at Southampton on Friday 21st January 2005. My surgeon was Mr Aziz and he was very reassuring and put me at ease. I cannot fault the aftercare, Jo Truscott is very thorough and will answer all your questions until you are happy. The surgery team were fantastic. The day after surgery I noticed the difference straight away. I can now enjoy life without glasses. Thank you to everyone at Optical Express - Southampton.

The staff was excelent, very professional and informative. The surgeon took the time to explain the whole process before going ahead with the operation. It was all over in five minutes, I did not feel anything not even the slightest discomfort. I should have had it done years ago. Within twenty minutes I could see very well, well done Optical Express for changing my life for the better.

I had mono vision Lasek surgery. Although a little worried at first with only having one eye done, my vision is now better than 20:20. I have had no problems at all with the surgery or the aftercare.

I had stress-free, pain-free (almost enjoyable) Lasik treatment at Newcastle yesterday at 4pm. At 4:30pm, I could already see reasonably well (I had been about -5.00 in both eyes). I went home, closed my eyes for 2-3 hours, listened to music and drank wine, with no need for pain killers. I went to bed early, slept well and woke with better than 20:20 vision! Today I've been out and about enjoying my new freedom from glasses.
One slight concern: at the first consultation it was suggested (almost recommended) that I consider mono-vision, to avoid the need for reading glasses. I was tempted, but did some research of my own. As a keen racket sport player, I might have regretted the decision ...

I had bilateral wavefront lasek on 16/12/04. My prescription was -5.25r & -5.00L. One month on & my eye sight is 20/20+. My consultation was at The Strand Clinic, the staff were very helpful & my examination was very thorough. However due to an admin error they cost me two work days. They had booked me in for Lasik instead of Lasek after I had booked time off from work.
The operation was at the Shaftbury clinic by Dr Luca Ilari. He & his team were extremely professional & explained every thing in detail pre & post surgery. 5*'s to Dr Ilari & his surgical team.

I had bilateral Lasik treatment at the Birmingham centre. The following day I had 20/20 vision. The procedure was completely painless and the staff were very professional.
I am now one month post op and my sight is actually better than 20/20.
All my consultations have been implemented in Nottingham and the staff are always helpful and professional.
I cannot believe the change in my vision, and would recommend this treatment to anyone.

I had my eyes lasered by Mr Jain last November at the Milton Keynes branch. After the usual tests, I met Mr Jain who talked me through the procedure, and gave me a tablet to help me relax. I was then taken through for the surgery. Everyone was very kind, and I was in the chair for a maximum of 15 minutes. The procedure was completely painless, and someone held my hand the whole time. You do feel some pressure on the eye, but that is the only slight discomfort. Afterwards, I was given my drops and a follow up appointment. My eyes were streaming when I came out, and dripping onto my lap in the car! Went straight home, had something to eat and went to bed. Woke up about 4pm and eyes sl ...

I went for my treatment at the Glasgow clinic yesterday and I am amazed at how good my eye sight is already. In fact having had treatment at 1230 and three hours sleep in the afternoon (you need it!) by 8 pm I could see better than I could with glasses. Unbelievable! The surgery is not painful just uncomfortable and afterwards I can only describe the feeling as similar to peeling onions - watering eyes which sting a bit. But once you have slept the afternoon away no problems. I highly recommend Dr Bothya and her team - highly professional and very caring. If you have reservations then my suggestion is to go for it - you won't regret it.

Many thanks indeed to the Bristol team, especially Lisa Murrish, Carmel Andrew and Surgeon Mr Fenton, for their truly outstanding level of care and standard of service.
Following Lasik treatment on December 9th, my vision is wonderfully improved.
Absolutely everything I needed to know was explained in advance, the teams reassurance caused me to suffer no fear whatever and the surgery procedure was completely painless.
I have no hesitation in recommending this treatment to anyone seeking the restoration of the wonderful gift of sight. Thank you all, very much.
Chris Willey, Taunton.
