Dr Islam at Optimax was great and it helped my confidence to know that she had had bilateral epilasek and had performed unilateral epilasek on her husband but Optical Express were better organised with a calmer atmosphere and the testing of my eyes was much more thorough. I underwent LASEK surgery on 4 November 2004 with Optical Express at their Newcastle clinic. My wife had undergone LASIK surgery 2 years earlier at the same clinic and has perfect eyesight after years of wearing spectacles. I had Lasik surgery done in Belfast on both my eyes 2 days ago and the result is amazing, this was the first day they started doing this in Belfast and all the staff were very friendly. I was slightly nervous while waiting my turn but once I stepped into the surgery room it all disappeared as everyone was so nice, the nurses introduced themselves and I had already met the surgeon as he has a last look at your eyesight and explains the procedure before you go in to have it done. I had Lasek at the Manchester clinic on the 26th November. My earlier initial consultation, I found to be very thorough and the staff at the Sheffield Meadowhall branch were happy to answer all my questions and were very reassuring. The surgery itself I found a little uncomomfortable, actually I was scared to death! I had been told I would have a sedative but apparantly they don't do that anymore. It was painless at least. It was the best money my husband as paid for me to have Lasik surgery, the staff were brilliant, Mr George the consultant was excelland and the surgery I did not feel a thing, but the next three days were very painful and you needed to keep your eyes closed, after when the lenses were removed I was pain free, then within 10days I had good vision, six weeks later I have more than 20/20 vision and cannot beleive that I can now go swimming without being worried about my lenses popping out. I had done a bit of research into the various types of surgery, but when i had had the initial consultation Lasik was the best one for me. A few days before surgery i was understandably apprehensive. Its my eyes! I need them! But it didnt deter me. My early expectations were for driving standard vision. I had the op on Friday 3/12/04 and was treated very professionally. I had lasik 3 weeks ago with a prescription of -7.50 and -5.00. My vision is better than 20/20 and even a day after surgery I could see very clearly. I was amazed how quick the actual surgery was. It wasn't painful, just uncomfortable but it was over so soon I hardly noticed it. I would recommend the procedure to anyone who can have it done. Had my LASIK in Glasgow on Saturday, 20th November with Dr S Boytha, I was going to go for surgery 2 years ago but wimped out!!I'm so happy I decided this time round just to go for it. The rsults are fantastic, I had 20/20 vision NEXT DAY and could see straight after surgery, whicj in its self was painfree and the staff were great at putting you at ease! 48hrs after surgery with Dr George and his fantastic team in Birmingham I feel like I want to tell the world how wonderful LASIK surgery is! Like you I read all these reports before treatment so you 'sort of know' whats going to happen. It is still a bit scary on the day. I had my Lasik done just less than 3 months ago at the Glasgow clinic, it has been wonderful, I would urge anyone who is considering it to go for it. I had very bad short sight, with my right eye having quite a bad astigmatism. I had been refused treatment (on the day) by another clinic and thought I wasn't able to have any surgery done, however I went to the Eye Clinic (where I have had my glasses and contact lenses from for years!) and they gave me the go ahead! Having worn specs for the best part of 30 years, I was really looking forward to having this treatment and I was not disapointed! I am delighted with the results and can't praise the staff at the Glasgow Clinic enough. The whole proceedure took less than 5 mins but it has changed my life forever. I had lasek surgery at the milton keynes branch on wednesday the 27th oct by Dr Jain. It was a very nerve wracking experience, but the surgery itself its painfree. but i must say that a day or 2 afterwards my eyes became very sore and light sensitive so beware!! you are much better off just closing your eyes, trust me! after the contact lenses get taken out you can practically see 10 times better, but takes a few more days to stabilise. my eyes are now very close to 20/20 vision and am very happy with the results. thank you optical express for making me see out of my own eyes and not designer ones!  More...

Did not even make it to the consultation as the company couldn't get their act together. I made an appt on 1.11.2004 for following 08.11.2004 (as had to have had contact lenses out for seven days). With less than 24 hours notice on 07.11.04 the clinic rang up to say that the appt could go ahead but one of the staff who was scheduled to be there was not going to be available. I had my treatment at Manchester on Friday 3rd September this year. I had already had my assessment completed in Bristol in July and found out that I had 'large pupils' so had to go to Manchester for the procedure! Having consulted this site I was expecting a sedative of some kind on the day, but no apparently I had to experience it stone cold sober!! Maybe I didn't look nervous enough. I had Lasik on the 28th October at Milton Keynes. Having been for tests with Boots and booked treatment which was then cancelled, rebooked, cancelled I was worried about being let down by another company, but Optical Express were fantastic. From start to finish nothing was too much trouble. They explained everything at the initial consultation and again on the day. I had my laser surgery two days ago on Wed 20th October under Mr Giledi and it is amazing! I have to admit to being a bit of a scaredy-cat and a panic-monster usually, but having logged onto this website and read all of the good reviews I finally found the courage to book myself in and have the treatment. My initial consultation was at the East Cheap branch where the staff were very helpful and I then had my surgery at the Shaftesbury Avenue clinic and the nurses there were wonderful and made me feel very relaxed. I had my eyes lasered on Friday (15th) afternoon at the Southampton clinic with Mr Jain. The surgery itself is painless, although you can feel what's going on so I would advise you to say yes to the Valium you're offered before surgery (I also took painkillers)! I was a little nervous before going into the op room, however when it came to sitting in the chair I was terrified! I had my eyes lasered yesterday at the Southampton clinic, after 20 years of wearing glasses and lenses to correct my short sightness and astigmatism. Today, I can see clearly, with the only after effect being slightly 'gritty' feeling eyes. The actual procedure feels odd, but is far less distressing than having a filling done at the dentist! Its the best thing I have done - I turned 40 this year and decided this was my present - better than any diamonds! I had my treatment in June 2004. My prescription was -3.75 and now my sight is better than 20/20. I had my 3 month check-up yesterday and everything is perfect! I no longer need to go back for check-ups (apart from from the regular yearly ones) and I can play around in the swimming pool and not worry about lenses popping out. Had worn glasses and sometimes contact lenses for 15 years - was totally fed up with them. Went to Optical Express in Milton Keynes for a consultation to see if I would be suitable for laser correction. The optician I saw was very helpful, explaining each test he did and what each result meant. For example he explained the different complications that could arise if my cornea was too thin or if my pupils were too large etc - I was "average" on everything, making me a good candidate. I had worn glasses for 12years and my prescrirtion had reached -2.75. In October 2003 I had both eyes corrected by Lasik at the Manchester clinic. There was a little pain and discomfort for a few days but the improvement in my vision was apparent immediately. I have now got better than 20/20 vision and am delighted I went ahead with the procedure. I had lasek treatment in June 2004, I am over 40 and was told to expect to wear reading glasses after the procedure. I did not want to do this and nearly did not go ahead until the option of having one eye only treated was suggested. I did have my right (dominant) eye treated and now have 20/20 vision for long distance and my left eye I use for reading without glasses. It was like wearing one contact lense at first until your brain adjusts to it. I now have the best of both distance vision and I can read without glasses. Had Lasik at the Glasgow clinic on 28th September 2004 (Dr Susanna Boytha), my consultation was the week before and I wanted it done quickly. My prescription was -5 in both eyes and I have worn glasses for 20 yrs. Like most comments the treatment is completely painfree, more of an unusual sensation with slight discomfort. I was in at 9am and in bed sleeping at noon and after 3 hrs sleep (took some painkillers) woke up feeling great and seeing reasonably well (slightly hazy). I'd worn glasses since ge 11 (37 now, prescription -3). Had Lasik in the Glasgow clinic (Dr Jain)on 24th Sept following first assessment in Edinburgh couple of weeks ago. No pain, mild discomfort during procedure but overall no more unpleasant than a dental checkup. Dr Jain was reassuringly formal prior to op with rest of the staff very supportive. Post op felt woozy from 'relaxant' drug and eyes felt like they had old contact lenses in, but the drops helped remove that feeling of discomfort. I am nearly 24 and had LASIK at Glasgow yesterday by Dr Jain. Got out of surgery around 5.10pm and today I am seeing almost perfectly! My eyesight was very bad (-10.75 and -7.5 and astigmatism in one eye) so I was borderline for having the procedure. I really hadn't expected to see this well so soon after surgery. 10 days after having Lasek at Manchester, I am absolutely delighted with the results. The procedure itself is painless, quick and not particularly uncomfortable. Recuperation was also pretty swift - the day after the procedure was spent indoors with the curtains shut and it was sometimes difficult to open my eyes. The following day was much better, just light sensitve in bright sunlight, and things were even better a day later. Vision is already better than when I used to wear my contact lenses and expected to improve further over the next couple of weeks. I had Lazek surgery to just one eye in October 2003 at the age of 46. Slightly short sighted, I had been struggling for some time with the battle between reading and distance vision, and the constant annoyance of having to take my glasses off to read. I felt it would be beneficial to me to try monovision (dominant eye for distance vision and non-dominant eye for close vision). I had my LASIK on the 8th Sept. Everyone was friendly.. I won't lie, it wasn't a pleasant experience, but for the 2 minutes of unpleasantness it was well worth it, and not painful.. just uncomfortable and very strange! So far so good. I have had no pain or discomfort, not even dry eye since the day of the op, and was back at work on the third day. My only negative comment was that the surgeon tried to persuade me i didn't need a tablet to calm me down as i "seemed ok".. I insisited as i was really quite nervous on the inside! 4 months after Lasik, with left eye short sighted to counteract need for reading glasses (monovision). I happily recommend this treatment, and Optical Express in Newcastle. I was unsure about monovision and was given a supply of contact lenses to try out the effect. You do get some odd situations, as things are blurred if only the left eye can see them, such as actors on a stage if there is a person with a big head in front of you. I had the LASKEK procedure performed with my prescription being -5 & -5.25. initially I was concerned about having LASKEK rather than LASIK as I did not find much information about peoples experiences on the internet. I could not have LASIK as the thickness of my cornea was not suitable. I had lasik treatment in the Reading Branch on Friday 13th August. I have to say I was very impressed with the staff and the surgeons, they put us all completely at ease and made a potentially scarey situation much easier to handle. i have recentley had lazer treatment at optical express in birmingham.i can only say that it is amazing and has changed my life.although it is slightly scary to have an opp on your eyes,i can honestly say it is only uncomfortable and is definately not painful.and as for the result i am on cloud nine.i have worn glasses for the best part of 25 years and now my eye sight is restored fully.the staff at optical express are both friendly and put you at ease.i cannot thank the surgeon and his team enough and particulary the support and advice of Sofia who was wonderful.i cannot wait to go snorkeling again and to return to my footy.it proberbly wont make me play any better but it will be a pleasure ...  More...

I had LASIK surgery on 21/7/04 at Shaftesbury Ave. I would recommend the surgery, my prescription was -3.75 left and -2.50 right (astigmatism) and I can now see perfectly! The procedure was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting, it really DIDN'T hurt. The worse experience was dealing with the nerves as it was happening. I wasn't in the 'theatre' for more than 15 minutes and felt fine afterwards. It was more comfortable to keep my eyes closed. My eyes felt gritty after the anaesthetic had worn off, I took some pain killers and went to bed. By 8 o'clock that evening my vision was good and my eyes no longer felt uncomfortable. I had Lasik carried out on both eyes on 31st July by Ms Susanna Boytha - she is a wonder woman! I cannot believe how well I can see. After I struggled with contact lense for over 25 years, I wish I had been able to get the surgery done earlier. On the day of the appointment I was a little nervous, but after the vallium (or whatever) I was completley calm. After surgery I went straight home to bed for a couple of hours, after wakening 3 hours later all fuziness in my eyes had gone, and by the next morning, I had 20 20 vision, I was over the moon. I had surgery 3 months ago at Optical Express in Newcastle upon Tyne. It is the best thing I have done. Very little discomfort for a lifetime of vision. Absolutely amazing. The aftercare service I have received has been fantastic. Many people I have spoken to say they haven't got the bottle to go ahead with surgery although they would love not to have to wear glasses and say I am very brave. I have today had my 3 month check up at Milton Keynes Optical Express. I am 35 and wore glasses for short-sightedness for 25 years. I have better than 20-20 vision and I find it quite incredible. There is slight glare at night compared to before the procedure, but i think this is lessening. the whole process was fairly easy, physically, and very worthwhile. At Optical Express the surgeon, optometrist (Darcey) and counsellor were all very good, although the counsellor was a bit dim. I chose to have Lasek treatment earlier this year (April) as I was a soon to qualify student midwife fed up of wearing lenses and glasses. The lasek treatment was performed by Mr Aziz at the Manchester clinic. My prescription before hand was -3 in both eyes. I now have 6/5 in both eyes with no problems of dryness or halo's. The procedure itself on the Saturday morning was slightly uncomfortable but painless. Later the same evening I needed paracetamol as well as the clinics recommended medication. I required pain relief for mild/moderate pain until the discomfort subsided on the Monday morning. On June 16th I had my Lasek laser surgery, being at the tender age of 23 I had a few reservations, however my career path dictated that it was either laser surgery or not being able to follow my career goal of becoming a Police Officer. Dday came very quickly and the relaxed atmoshpere and pleasant staff at Milton Keynes really made it an enjoyable experience. I opted for the lasek over the lasik as the lasek offered greater security in the long term with regards to contact sports and I guess when I join the police I can expect to get a few punches thrown at me from time to time! I've just got home, having had Lasik at the Shaftsebury Avenue branch yesterday. The actual op was painless (although the smell was pretty gross) but after the drops wore off I had a lot of pain (for about 4 hours afterwards). I had elected to stay overnight in a nearby hotel to save journeying to home and back the next day for the check-up. I was glad of this when the pain kicked in. After the op I stumbled to my room, lay down and slept. Things got clearer from then on and were very good this morning. My vision is still not quite as good as it used to be with my glasses on (although better than they expected it to be), especially the close stuff which used to be fine without my glasses ...  More...

I has LASIK in both eyes at the Glasgow Optical Express clinic on Saturday 31st July. I had my check up on the day after and then again on Thursday 5th August and my eyes are now better than 20/20. I was -7 in my left eye and -3 in my right and I am so pleased now as I can see better than I could with my contact lenses. The procedure wasn't sore or even uncomfortable it was just slightly unpleasant. My eyes were streaming afterwards so I went home to sleep and when I woke up 4 hours later they were not even sore and I could see perfectly. I had Lasik done last Thursday 6th August 2004. I am pleased to say that I m very happy with the treatment and I have not experienced any problems. The staff at the Milton Keynes branch were very good and I would reccomend the treatment to anyone. I have considered laser surgery ever since using lenses has become irritating – the thought of having to wear glasses permanently is a frightening prospect, as I hate them. I live in Norway where the procedure is a lot more expensive than Optical Express’s offer at the moment, so decided to combine a Summer holiday over there with the surgery. I had Lasik Surgery on both eyes on Thursday 29th July 2004, at Optical Express Shaftsbury Ave London. I was not at all nervous, but was worried that I should be! The procedure was unpleasant and I was thinking about telling them not to do the 2nd eye but by the time I’d made up my mind my eye was taped up and I was back under the machine! I had LASIK on my left eye on Friday, in the Manchester clinic. I don't know why I didn't have it done years ago. Its AMAZING. Totally painless, slightly uncomfortable, probably no worse than getting a scale and polish at the dentist. Within 3-4 hours my sight was improved so much that I was driving my family demented by reading everything I could...wine bottles, buses passing, vehicle reg's, if I could see it I read it out. Have recently had a consultation in Liverpool. My prescription is -1.25 right and -5.50 left. I was told I may get away with having just left eye done (lasik). I'm currently wearing just one lense in my bad eye to see if I can get used to it. Have done it for 4 days now but am having problems adjusting. The clinic were talking about Monovision, has anybody got any experience in this? By the way, the consultation was fine, they were all very friendly and took time to explain pros and cons etc, actual test took about an hour and was very thorough. I'll have no qualms in using Optimax if their surgeons are as friendly, down to earth and thorough as the Liverpool staff.  More...

Well I went for my consultation on Sat. 5 June and found everyone there very friendly and helpful. I was pleasantly [??] suprised to be able to book an appointment to have the Lasik surgery done on Weds. 9th June - only 4 days later - which was great, especially as it meant only a few more days of walking around blind as a bat with my contacts out. Anyhow, I knew it was all a bit too straightforward. My contact lense company was Optical Express in London. They’d always been very good at giving me lenses, and I’d been impressed at the ease with which I could get appointments, the way they gave my eyes very thorough checks every few months, and the free biscuits. This, then, surely, would be the perfect company with which to entrust my sight? Er, well not quite. Whilst I can state with pleasure that the surgery was performed very competently, the same cannot be said for the associated admin. Had my initial consulation in Belfast and the team there could not have been any more helpful and put me at ease. Decided to book for Lasik at the Glasgow branch for 22/5/04. Arrived early but was dealt with immediately. Again, the whole team were superb and could not fault anyone or anything. The surgery itself was very quick, Mr Jain and the team were all very thorough and professional throughout the treatment. The part of the surgery where the flap is cut did catch me by surprise, it stung a little bit and I found it hard to keep my eyes open but it is over very quickly. Well, it is now 12 days since my surgery. In the end I opted for LASEK because I rub my eyes a lot with hay fever and have large pupils. I was hoping that Mr Jain would make the decision for me, but he repeated what I already knew and said it was up to me. When I opted for LASEK he said he thought it was the right choice. The procedure was exactly as they had described, so no surprises there. It was a little freaky and I have never been so still in my whole life! But not actually any worse than going to the dentist. I had my lasik at shaftesbury avenue last friday, 14th may. The procedure was totally painless. Everything was explained to me from the moment i arrived. I was first given a couple of eye tests to map the eye and cornea. Then i went to meet the surgeon Mr Jain. He did a standard look at the eye chart and see what you can read type test to ensure my prescriptopn was accurate. Then offered me LASEK or LASIK i still insited on LASIK for a quicker recovery. Does anyone have any experience of having LASEK/LASIK treatment at the Reading branch of Optical Express. Or being treated by Mr Sundeep Kheterpal. I've been for my initial appointment there which was handled very well and was very thorough. Though for some reason they give you things to read and sign after you've had drops in your eyes and can't see anything. Additionally they didn't have an info pack on the surgeon nor could answer any of my questions about him, and success rates etc. However they have arranged an appontment for me to see him. I had Lasek at Manchester just under two weeks ago and it is the best thing I have ever done. Previously, I had decided to have Lasik as the longer recovery time associated with Lasek did not appeal to me and had heard some bad reports about the amount of pain you may suffer. However, after having a discussion with Dr Aziz on the day of surgery, he recommended I have Lasek due to my above average pupil size. He also mentioned that there is lower risk of suffering from dry eyes, which I had done when wearing contact lenses.
