Well the big days been and gone. I can now see!!!! today's Thursday and the op was Monday, I could drive on Tuesday. Although I'm still getting used to things and I feel 100% is not quite there I am hoping that over the next day or two things will settle down.
Few tips for people going :
There is some discomfort in the op nothing to bad but don't think its going to be a breeze.
Take the sedative it helps !!!!
The op affects people in different ways. People who shared the same hotel as me had almost perfect vision that night. I was still in discomfort - eyes watery, sore and poor vision. However the following day my eyes were perfect no discomfort and those with perfect vision the ...

Further to my assessment I made the trip to Shaftsbury Ave for LASIK, or so I thought. They were running nearly 2 hours late (nothing for your companions to do although the staff are very nice and keep you filled up with tea/coffee etc.). When I got to see the surgeon he explained that with my prescription (-2.25) the outcome of either LASIK or PRK would be the same. Being as LASIK carries higher risks of complications with the flap etc. he said he would be doing PRK. I could've cried as I knew PRK was more painful afterwards and has a slower recovery period - right on both counts!! The surgery is a doddle, 10 min's for both eyes. Even the eyelid clamp which concerned me beforehand was no ha ...

Well, went back to Maxivision Monday evening and surgeon cannot really explain why my eyesight has deteriorated since surgery (three and half weeks ago!), the only thing he thinks may have done this is the severe dryness, even though I put them drops in like there was no tomorrow!!!
I am not too happy as I am having to wear contact lenses until I go back in Jan 2003 for check up (which I have had to pay for!!!) plus solution, plus petrol costs and parking fees going back and forth to clinic. But at this moment in time the cost is not important, I just want my prescription back to 0 like it was the day after surgery.
So today I am only giving MaxiVision 2 stars because of the inconveni ...

I had the LASIK on 8th Nov 2002 in the Manchester clinic. The staff were very friendly and reassuring. The surgeon (Dr Aziz) and his team were fantastic and talked me through the surgery. It was a bit uncomfortable but not painful. I went for my check up the next day at Conlons and my high prescription of - 6.75 (right eye) and -6.50 (left eye) was down to 0 which I was really pleased with. The only downfall was my eyes were extremely dry the first week, but I did suffer with dry eyes before the procedure, so I had to use lots of different eye drops, Viscotears being the most soothing. I recommend anyone getting the surgery book a week of work to recover, just to make sure you avoid dry ...

Update from my comments posted on 24th Oct 02. I can honestly say that my vision is fantastic now. My eyes do get a little dry even now but I can cope with adding drops daily! I have spent the last year researching laser eye surgery and have read everything possible, including all the negative things, however I decided to go ahead. I had my surgery at the London clinic on the 18th November 2002. I was very impressed by all the staff, who were friendly and professional. Both eyes were treated by Mr Panjit who was excellent. The treatment lasted 20 minutes and was a bit uncomfortable but painless. The worse thing was the smell! It now four days since surgery and I'm following my aftercare routine to the letter but the best thing is I can see :) both eyes are 6/6. I am amazed by the results and it's the best thing!

I had LASEK treatment on November 4th. I went to the London Clinic, and from the moment I arrived till the surgery - I was AMAZED at the WONDERFUL care and friendliness of the staff. Everyone made me feel so welcome, and I wasn't nervous at all. During surgery - I was talked gently through each part of the procedure, which only lasted MINUTES, and when I got up, I could SEE!!!! Apparently, vision is normally blurred after LASEK for 4-7 days afterwards, but mine was excellent - especially from my left eye. My surgeon was Susannah Boytha, MD, MRCOphth, and she was FABULOUS - SO easy to talk to - lovely smile when I first met her - put me at ease straight away.

After a lot of searching on the web and asking around I decided to bite the bullet and book a consultation to see if I was a suitable candidate for LASIK surgery. I choose LaserVision because of the reputation of their world renowned surgeon Mr Williams, their informative website and extremely helpful staff. The lady who did my consultation tested my eyes thoroughly and told me about all the benefits and risks involved. I was most impressed, however, with Michelle who I spoke to on their free phone number to book the surgery itself. I arrived at 9.50am, 10 minutes prior to my operation which started after a further check up. By 10.40 I was sitting in the waiting room following a post op check up and waiting on my taxi to go home.

My prescription was -3.75 (L) and -4.75®, no astigmatism problem and, as regards the thickness of the cornea, it was well within limits. My vision had been stable at this prescription for over 5 years. All in all, I was an ideal case for this treatment. To start with, whilst the people at the Cheapside clinic in London (where I work) were very polite and nice, I didn't think that they were as sharp as I expected in terms of customer service. I went back 21/07/02 to have a contact lens put in my right eye, which I’m now wearing for 10 days to see if my left eye adjusts to not requiring glasses. I’ve never worn contacts before but agai ...

I initially contacted MaxiVision by telephone in the hope of getting a brochure and at a time when I was unsure of exactly what was involved in the procedure. However the staff were extremely helpful with me and even called me back to explain what was involved to take the time to answer my long long list of questions. All of my appointments were pre-confirmed by phone which meant that I never missed an appointment....I have read many comments on this site and others and luckily for me the procedure was completely painless and over in minutes.. I cant believe just how little sensation there actually was during the procedure...Now all I keep thinking is "I wish I had it done years ago!!!" I un ...

Just a quick follow up to my previous comments. I had mt left eye contact lens removed on Monday and could read the second from bottom line only 5 days after LASEK. I was told this was normal vision for people who don't need glasses/contacts at all and I still had a couple more days for my eyes to settle even more. I am due for my next check at Northampton and Monday 17t June and feel positive I will be able to see the bottom line!!(Here's hoping) I'v gone back to work and things are great and I'm only using the Lubricant drops now which are lovely to use even if you don't feel like you need them. It was great to find out that Maxivision read this site, so if you;r reading this Mr Nylander ...

Follow up to yesterday's post.
Today I received a phone call from Maxivision's head office expressing their concern about my comments regarding surgeons being pressurised into treating unsuitable patients.
He said that he'd been deeply concerned by my statement and expressed that this was not Maxivision's policy and that they would much rather turn away a patient than treat them knowing there's a higher risk of complication.
I was pleased that a) they keep an eye on this site and others like it and take on board the comments made and b) that he had taken the time to call me.
Like I said in yesterday's post. I was delighted with the treatment and the service from all of the Maxivision staff ( ...

I had my surgery on May 22nd. The staff were very friendly and put me at ease and there was no waiting around at all. However, the surgeon did go on a bit about how most clinics (including Maxivision) are becoming more and more money orientated and that he was totally fed up with it all. He said that a lot of surgeons were being pressurised into treating unsuitable candidates to boost the clinics cash-flow and that he was now working his notice. But I was not to worry coz he would contact me (and all of his patients) to let us know where he was going in case we had complications or needed enhancements after he had left.....just what I needed to hear 10 minutes before surgery!
Anyway, the pro ...

I had Bilateral PRK on Saturday (at Milton Keynes), and have to admit that they weren't lying when they said it would hurt! I had about 6 hours of really really stabbing pain in both eyes - neither the paracetemol or the sleeping tablets had any effect.
After that things calmed down alot and I was able to sleep on and off and by about 18 hours after I wasn't needing any pain meds. The vision improvement is something I didn't expect so soon. Straight after the op, before the pain kicked in, I was able to reasonably well - about legal driving requirement. I have another appointment on Wednesday to have the contact lenses removed so I'll let you know how things are then.

Well, I've been looking at this site now for quite a while as over the last few years I have been considering Laser surgery and now here I am 5 days after having LASEK and can see absolutely perfect!LASEK is quite similar to LASIK but has the same healing etc as PRK, the flap is made using alcohol which more or less burns the flap. However I experienced absolutely no pain throughout the operation (except the clamp which was quite tight on my right eye, however as it is over in seconds it was nothing really) and I also had no pain whatsoever since the operation on Wednesday 5th June, and I can honestly say that I haven't really had much discomfort, none of the gritty feelings that people hav ...

Went to Newcastle for op as the Glasgow clinic does not have the surgery facilities yet. Because of this they knocked £150 off my bill! The operation was COMPLETELY painless. I had -7.0 in both eyes and found that I could see pretty well straight away. The next day was even better. I was at driving standard first thing in the morning.
The surgeon was Rodney Eve and I can not praise him enough. He told me what he was doing at all times of the operation. It was strange to think that he was cutting a flap in my eye and I wasn't feeling a thing!
I would definitely recommend this clinic.

I had bi-lateral LASIK at Newcastle Clinic yesterday and 'wow' it's a miracle. The process is virtually painless - I thinkgoing for a polish at the dentist is far worse! I could tell that the flap was being cut but it wasn't painful at all. The laser lasted 38 secs and as soon as it was finished the red light looked normal instead of fuzzy at the beginning. I think I smiled for the second eye. I couldn't have been looked after better. My sight is slightly blurry, but I was -10.5 in both eyes. Been for post op check this morning and everythings fine. I feel like I've won the lottery nothing can compare to the way i felt this morning when I woke up.

Hi should have fed back ages ago, had my enhancement on 7-Dec-01 as planned, vision still not good in right eye, advised by Manchester clinic to use Viscotears and plenty of drops, which I did, however over Christmas it got progressivly worse. I phoned head office and they arranged an appointment for me at the London Clinic on 30 Dec-01. It turned out I was allergic to the preservative in the eye drops so using loads was making matters worse, a very bad reaction in the right eye. Left eye still great. Given different drops without preservative and gradually the eye got better, forgot to say had silicone plug put in tear duct to assist drops to stay in the eye for longer. Went back for check ...

I had LASIK surgery with Clive Mortimer and Ulrika (can't remember her last name)on January 28th 2002 at the Reading branch. I was incredibly nervous before the operation but the staff were fantastic and did everything they could to put me at ease.
The operation was over in under 30 minutes and by the next morning I could see perfectly and could read the bottom line of the eye charts. I did have a slightly bloodshot right eye which was caused by the eye clamp but this went after a few days.
I cannot recommend the eye clinic highly enough. The staff were very professional, helpful and incredibly thorough (I had three eye tests before surgery and all measurements are checked and double chec ...

Had the initial consultation and was v. impressed by the professionalism and honesty of all the staff. Have opted for PRK mainly because I play a few contact sports, which meant that LASIK was ruled out. Have booked the op for the 8th June. Only down side is that from 1st June the cost of PRK is going up to match that of LASIK ... £1000 per eye.
Prescription was (left and right) -4.75 and -4.00 with a slight astigmatism in the right eye. Will post back post op results :)

I was increadably anxious prior to the treatment and must say it wasnt without pain but without a doubt the best £1700 I have ever spent. I had the op 5.30 Tuesday evening and yes I did find it painful. It lasted 15mins in total and by far the worst bit was when they put pressure on the eyeball when doing the cut of the cornea and then the actual laser treatment. It wasnt unbearable but dont be fooled by all the hype that its no worse going to the dentist - it is, by far. After the op I couldnt open my eyes for four hours not even for a split second & I w ...

I had bilateral PRK at Milton Keynes eight weeks ago now. My prescription was such, that I was advised that the outcome would be no different whether I had LASIK or PRK. I opted for the cheaper option, PRK, and the end result has been excellent. My eyesight is currently better than 20/20 and expected to be about 6/4 when I go for my 3 month check up. The only thing I will say is that PRK did not agree with me. Within an hour of the treatment I was in agony. It stayed like that for a couple of days and the pain killers given to me did not help very much. If you can afford it choose LASIK. That said, the aftercare treatment was very good and I am chuffed to bits with the final result.

I received my treatment on the 18.2.2002, it is now 20.2.2002. This was to correct shortsight in both eyes; -5.5 (left) -5.75 (right).
My Surgeon:
My surgeon, Mr CT Pillal was very professional and reasuring during the whole procedure. I was very pleased with the way in which the operation was performed.
The Procedure:
Initially you have second thoughts - it's like bungy jumping.
If you have sensitive eyes, like myself, the procedure is uncomfortable. Thankfully, you are supported throughout and it is very short.
The Results:
The day following the procedure, 19.2.2002, the consultant reported 20/20 in the left eye. My right eye is around 95-98%. It is now two days after t ...

Just to let you know i had my laser treatment done at The Reading Clinic by Clive Mortimer, last wednesday 13th March 2002. Firstly i have to say that the staff were absolutely fantastic and really make you feel and ease. There were a few people in the waiting room with very sore eyes and i was a little worried, but i was assured that these patients had had PRK and that was a more painful procedure.
Anyhow when i arrived i had some tests carried out, and then went downstairs for the treatment. I was seen by Clive Mortimer who then explained to me that the most common problems were to do with the cutting of the flap and that because i had astigmatism, this problem is more common, i think ...

I had the surgery 4 days ago. The whole exercise was run like clockwork. The staff were all very nice. The actual surgery is nothing to worry about. You don't really see anything and you are talked to through the whole process. For a few hours after I couldn't really open my eyes. I took a train home; takes about two hours. The whole procedure was painless, but provided wonderful results. All the staff involved from beginning to end were excellent, which made me feel very confident. The literature was very informal, explaining the procedures thoroughly. Not only pointing out the good points, but the problems that could be incurred. All the other companies I gained literature from, failed to provide such essential information. I thought I would go for a consultation with Laservision due to some of the high-profile endorsements (Branson, Goosen etc). The interview with Caroline was thorough and I learned I was a good candidate for LASIK (thick corneas, small pupils). I had done enough research of my own to know that with LASIK surgical skill is an important parameter and I was pleased to hear that Mr Williams performs all of the operations himself in this clinic. Caroline was also open regarding the track record of the clinic - Mr Williams has never had a clinical failure as such although in two cases (out of some six thousand) freak accidents some time after surgery resulted in damage to the corneal flaps.

The clinic was closing for Christmas the next day but some of the staff very kindly opened it up on Christmas Eve and came in just for me, ...
