I had my LASIK done by Mr Gartry 11/Sept/2004. I am not particularly a fan of Mr Gartry now as I will explain later.
Before LASIK I had -3.5 D in both eyes with no astigmatism.
To cut to the chase I have good vision in both eyes, with some starburst and slight double-vision at night or with bright lights on dark backgrounds. I was affected with Stage-1 DLK (Diffuse Laminar Keratitis) after surgery, which manifest itself some day or so after surgery.
Immediately after surgery my eyes were cloudy - this is normal. They then began to clear. The following day I could notice that my already notice my right eye was not really as good as my left. There is a follow up scheduled for 48 hours after ...

I was very nervous about having laser eye surgery for fear of something going wrong - you only have one set of eyes and mine were fine being corrected by lenses. However, after letting my mother be the guinea pig and watching her delighted with the results both my sister and I decided to book in with Mr Gartry - who came highly recommended. For both of us there wasn't really a decision to be made. We had both been severly short sighted since childhood and were both about -7.00 in each eye. Having decided to go for Wavefront which is supposed to be the most accurate, we booked our appointments together. Mr Gartry is very clear to point out that there are no guarantees with the result ...

I had Wavefront surgery with David Gartry on the 1st of November this year. My prescription was +2.25 with 1.5 astigmatism in both eyes. The surgery was a great success. I still have a bit of 'Haloing' but this appears to be getting better and a small amount of 'glare' but to be honest I can't quite remember how much I had before the op. The balance of the 'new' eyes took a while to get used to (a bit like new lenses or glasses) but it seems fine now. I can read the 20/20 line with my left eye which was always my worst and I can read the 20/10 line with my right eye. Combined I can easily read the bottom line. It is great!!! I just can't wait to be in ...

I had Wavefront laser surgery with Mr Gartry in Sept 03. Prior to surgery my prescription was -4.5/-4.75. The first week after surgery my eyesight was almost perfect. However, 2-3 months later it had deteriorated to -1.5/-1.75, so I was rather disappointed. I was told this was extremely unusual. Six months after the first operation, I had re-treatment surgery in Feb 04, again with Mr Gartry and this time just 'Lasik', not 'Wavefront'. 10 months later, my vision is fine, so if anyone has this experience, I would say go ahead and have it done a 2nd time - it worked for me.

After yeard of debating and thinking about it i finally had wavefront on the 12 may 04 performed by david gartry, my eyesight was VERY bad approx -9 in my right eye and -11.5 in my left plus astigmatism i had my initial consultation about a month previously, Mr gartry was very professional. I did have a few questions after the consultation which i emailed his secretary (more than once) and eventually got my reply. On the day of sugery i was nervous as i am with anything to do with my eyes as my eyesight was so bad, during thr operation i kept moving my eye and mr gartry had to tell me to keep it still otherwise he wopuldn't be able to carry on, this was what i needed as i didn't wan ...

Last Tuesday I went to Moorfields Eye Hospital for laser eye treatment ...WOW!! I am still so overcome at how well I can see, it truly is amazing and I wish that I had gone for it sooner. My surgeon was Mr Steve Tuft. I did find the whole idea of the surgery quite frightening before and during the procedure, however I could not have felt more confident in Mr Tuft, he talked me through everything as he was doing it and boy does he know what he is doing! When I sat up in the chair and opened my eyes I began to cry! My vision already was so sharp even though it was hazy. After an hour it was so much better and throughout that evening I could see clearer and clearer...far better than I have ever ...

Hi, I currently live in Singapore, I am thinking of going for epi-lasik with Moorfields Hospital.
I wonder has any one done epi-lasik in Moorfields ? Has anyone been to see consultant Mr B Allan ?
Any feedback on this will be much appreciated.
Thank you.

I'm shortsighted (-7.5), thinking of having Lasik surgery soon at Moorfields and want to book with either David Gartry or Julian Stevens. Can anyone advise me about either of them? I've read that Dr Gartry relies on the optician's sight test - does Dr Stevens do the same? Do you get time to ask questions and good after care?
There are a lot of postings from people who've had the surgery a couple of days beforehand but I'd love to hear from anyone who's had it weeks/months/years ago. I make documentaries which involves very long hours, lots of travel and lots of 'looking' (research on the computer & reading and looking through a camera) and am worried abo ...

I have had my first consultation with Mr Gartry on the 27/10/04 and I am going for my wavefront scan tomorrow and my surgery will be on the 1st November.
My prescription is Hyperopic (+2.25 Sph, +1.5 Cyl in both eyes) and I am 23 years old.
The initial consultation cost £150 but was worth it, as many of the other companies (rather than hospitals or independent surgeons) hold your consultation with a specialist rather that your actual surgeon... In my mind it is always best to meet the person who is going to be responsible for correcting your vision. You first go for an eye exam with a standard eye doctor who takes your prescription and measures the thickness of your cornea and the p ...

Having spent a lifetime struggling with myopia and now aged 60 when the ageing process necessitated not just contact lenses but reading glasses as well, a friend recommended Julian Stevens at Moorfields. The treatment I received was second to none and Julian's expertise and quiet confidence guided me through the whole procedure which was a little more complicated than Lasik, medically known as "removal of cataract and phakoemulsification and insertion of new lenses". One lens is set a "long distance" the other at "middle distance" and although Julian said I would still need reading glasses, the bonus is that actually I manage very well without reading glasses and my vision is better tha ...

I am going in for surgery tomorrow with David Gartry, and I was wondering how long before I can comfortably sit in the pub with my friends. I have been told different things by different people at the clinic, but wondered what someone who has actually had the surgery would suggest? If anyone can help would be great, as I am due for a night out thursday (3 days later) but am worrying if it would be too soon!! Thanks.

I had lasik in my right eye 2 weeks ago. My prescription was -8.0, and it appears that I have been under-corrected as at my check up last night, my prescription was -1.25. Apparantly this is very unusual (and a first for my surgeon). I'm going back in 3 weeks, by which time the eye will have settled down and we can discuss retreatment. Has this happened to anyone else? Did you have the 2nd treatment - I believe that there are additional risks? In the mean time I have some temporary glasses so that I can drive. By the way, the procedure is fine, rather strange but totally painless and very quick. Everyone is lovely, and they even held my hand! I am a complete baby about things lik ...

MR ALEX IONIDES carried out my lasik eye surgery 5 weeks ago and i am ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED with the result. I would recommend him (and his secretary Maureen) to anyone that is considering having it done and needs to ask those weird and wonderful questions before you fully commit. He has tremendous patience and a great understanding of how the patient is feeling. On the day of the treatment, i was surrounded by staff who were able to reassure me, settle my nerves AND hold my hand during the surgery. The best way i can describe the surgical process is "weird", but not painful. My follow up appointments and after care have been excellent. Go see Mr Ionides who will help you decide if its for yo ...

all comments that I have read so far are all concerned with the first few days following surgery. Has anyone had wavefront performed a year or two ago? If so, how is the long term result?

Can anybody help? I am so confused about all the sales hype re wavefront lasik. For years I have trailed round eye clinic after eye clinic, all but one saying that they could treat my eyes with one laser or another - but when it actually comes down to it never being able to show me some evidence that they had successfully performed the procedure on anyone with a prescription anywhere near my own. My current prescription is:
Right + 4.75 (Sph) - 0.25 (Cyl) 40 (Axis
Left + 1.75
I have recently had a consultation with a very well known clinic in my home city who tell me they have the only laser (wavefront lasik) in the Uk able to treat my prescription. Is this so? Has anybody out there ...

I had Wavefront with Mr Gartry on 29 May. I went for my consultation with the intention of having standard LASIK but Mr Gartry made the Wavefront sound like the best option and said given the choice he would choose Wavefront. At another £1000 it was something I had to seriously consider but found it quite difficult to research information on, in fact this site was about the best I could find reading other peoples experiences. With several questions I wanted to ask I e-mailed them a week before my date of surgery and, to cut a long story short, I had to persistently ring and e-mail the practice manager to get my answers. In the end after an irate conversation the day before my surgery, I fina ...

I had wavefront surgery on Saturday 12th June with David Gartry. I cannot praise Mr. Gartry and his team enough. I feel I got the best treatment possible, and have just been for my follow up appointment today, 2 days later. I can now see the bottom line of the board perfectly in both eyes, which is considered 2 better than 20/20 vision. My eyes were -5 in both eyes before. I had often asked my optician before what she thought of laser surgery and she was always very scelptical. On my last visit to her, she did say she had seen excellent results from Mr. Garty, and would never ever recommend the high st clinics. This was enough reassurance for me, who practically faints at the sight of ...

I had my lser eye surgery done on Friday 21 May at Moorfields eye hospital with Mr Julian Stevens. I had been thinking about the op since 1997 but never found a surgeon who would convince me they can do the "job" as good as Mr Stevens did. I had my initial consultation on 26 April and I was seen by very professional and experienced optometrists. In fact all stuff in the hospital were very professional. Then I was seen by Mr Stevens who had my eye sight results and he performed further tests to check whether I could have the op. I had several tests done and he ensured he had covered all angles! He then showed me on the computer his findings and what he was expecting to see and it was very imp ...

I am due to have an intial consultation with Mr Julian Stevens on 1st June for laser surgery and am just wondering if anyone can pass on any advice to me? I am particularly thinking of questions to ask, things to check up on etc etc. Also can anyone let me know if they have had surgery with him and how they found it (painful??). I have read all the comments on here and on the whole you all seem impressed, but I still need a bit of re-assurance! I'd like to know if anyone has had any problems so I can ask about these. Basically I want all the info I can get before going for the consultation so if anyone can help I'd be really grateful so please don't hesitate to email me. Thanks.

I had Wavefront LASIK with David Gartry on 28th February. I must say that everyone at Moorfields was very professional and I was seen by Dr Ilari for the initial Wavefront scan, a nice doctor from Trinidad (I think Dr Khan?) for the after care advice on the day of the operation, and of course Mr Gartry himself in the laser room, together with the charge nurse Mike Behrend and also another nurse whose name I cannot remember but I think was from NZ. All were super and very professional but at the same time friendly and chatty. My wife was more worried than I was!
The actual procedure itself was simple and totally painless, not even uncomfortable. I went out to dinner with 12 friends from my ...

I had my lasik in August with Miss Ficker and while I am pleased overall I am also slightly disappointed. I find that my right eye has regressed quite a lot and although I don't have to wear glasses at all I do find that I am straining to watch television or distant objects. At my 3 month check up Miss Ficker did offer to re-do the right eye but re-emphasised the risks that much that I am still thinking about it 3 months later. The right eye has altered itself so that I have monovision. The right one is better for close up and the left for long vision. As I have stated I do not have to wear glasses which is great but a lot of the time my eyes look tired. Think very carefully before you j ...
