I spent a long time, here and elsewhere, researching the best clinics, surgeons and treatments that would be able to correct my high prescription (-11.00) and am delighted, after going through it all, to say that the London Vision Clinic, and Dr/Prof Dan Reinstein, have been extraordinarily good.

The level of care and attention is excellent, but the best thing about the LVC is knowing you are in some of the most capable hands in the field anywhere in the world. Prof Reinstein is the guy trying to set the highest standards and raise the bar on refractive surgery in this country. He's warm, open and most importantly completely honest about the risks, possibilities and what he thinks he can do for you.

He's also supremely good at what he does: told me there was a one in five chance of getting me 20:20, and that it was more likely I'd be a little way off, but then immediately after the surgery said it had gone perfectly. He did such a good job that I had no scratchiness or discomfort, even during the first week of recovery, and I've been seeing 20:20 in both eyes since!

The LVC is exceptional because Reinstein is doing things (surgical techniques) that the high street practitioners haven't even heard of, and using absolutely the latest technology. You pay a premium for this quality of service (which includes superb after care, including possible 'enhancements') but then it's one of the most important things you'll ever spend money on, and the results are priceless.

I must just add that I first went for a consultation at Moorfields, where a surgeon told me he couldn't help me, because my prescription was too high and the cornea too thin for him to work with. I took that to be the end of the matter, but on a whim went for a second opinion at the LVC. Even Moorfields, one of the top top places, couldn't come close to doing what Prof Reinstein and his team provide.

I don't report this to slight the surgeon at Moorfields, as no doubt he is excellent at what he does too, but it is worth saying for anyone else with a high prescription who has been disappointed by other consultants that you should give LVC a call. I almost missed out on this life changing procedure, because I wasn't aware of how much the abilities of specific surgeons and the technology they are using affect who they can treat - for the best results, particularly for the high-end cases such as mine, Prof Reinstein at the LVC should be at the top of your list.
