A big thank you to both Craig, our "Corneal Surgeon" and the numerous people who have emailed on the subject of Lasek v's Lasik. I am sure that many of you who have been following the comments posted will be intrigued to learn more.....

    1) Browsers are free to read the 1998 reference and judge for themselves. From my own research an older keratome the ACS was used in this study and the authors also continue to perform Lasik.

    2) There are NO other Prospective Randomised controlled studies that have been published comparing the two procedures.

    3) The topic is controversial and in the literature so far there have only been 83 of ectasia cases reported and about 7 million LASIK procedures. The majority of ectasia cases occurred within a few months of Lasik and all within one year. It is therefore unlikely recipients of Lasik are going to have ectasia if they are over a year out.

    4) Refractive surgeons continue to debate the benefits of each procedure and since there is no conclusion, it is unlikely there is any clear answer. So patients and surgeons between themselves make the decision as to what procedure they prefer to undergo. Currenly, from the posting entered on this site, Lasik remains the most popular option.

This website is not intended to be a scientific discussion group or a forum for debate. It serves as a forum for communication and provision of INFORMATION about refractive centres for those wishing to undergo refractive surgery.

Again thank you to everybody who has partipated both by email and posting... it has certainly rustled up some serious interest & debate!!

As Webmaster, I exert the right to discontinue this thread and topic. This final posting concludes the discussion.

    Regards
