I had LASIK treatment almost two years ago now to correct severe short-sightedness. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I did a lot of research, had a great surgeon in Birmingham who had not only years of experience but had gone so far as to correct his own wife and daughter's eyesight and that to my mind meant he was clearly pretty confident in both the treatment and his own ability. He was brilliant with me as I was terrified, a nervous wreck. I went in at ten past and was out and done by twenty past! Zero pain before, during or after and that is the truth. I had both eyes done together and after he finished my right eye - I was actually able to glance around the room and see the scre ...

I noticed from an earlier post that someone was concerned about the Prison Service allowing people to join after certain surgeries. The latest standing from the Armed Forces (who use a similar, if not more demanding standard, which is also similar to the requirements of the Police Service), is that for corrective refraction the following methods are now considered suitable prior to entry on a case-by-case basis:
PRK, LASEK, LASIK, Intra Corneal Rings or Segments.
Entry is not permitted for those who have had Radial Keratotomy or Astigmatic Keratotomy.
Importantly, these are generally considered "OK" - but advice should be taken prior to surgery being carried out if you are serving, ...

Can anyone advise me on the suitability of lasik for someone who plays rugby? My obvious concern is that the flap may become dislodged while playing. I am a prop and so am involved in a lot of contact situations. I have been told that a) it would not be suitable; and b) that it would be fine providing I didn't play for 3-6 months afterwards; and so I am unsure of how suitable it is and would like some clarification. If anyone has any experience or knowledge of this I'd be very grateful if you passed it on to me. Thanks.

Found the procedures very uncomfortable but overall pleased with results. Still need to wear glasses for small print reading.

I had epi-lasik done in June at Optimax in Glasgow -I only wish I had it done years ago. Totally pain free,I could see within 20 minutes, was light sensitive for the rest of the day.Gone from -4.5 with astigmatism in both eyes to better that 20/20. I used artificial tears for about 6 weeks and now I don't feel that I need them unless I am over tired. The consent form is not for the faint hearted - but I had decided I was getting it done and nothing was going to put me off! I have been on holiday since having my eyes done and what a difference being able go in the pool/sea without the risk of losing contact lenses or just not being able to see. Go on what are you waiting for??

I think your site is an invaluable resource for all seeking honest advice on optional eye surgery that takes a lot of guts. Thought is the most powerful gift we have and will support negative outcomes just as easily as positive ones. As a human our eyes are so precious and the mere thought of allowing surgery to be performed on them is quite nerve wracking. In my experience the world appears a better place when you have an ability to overcome fear and negativity generated by the mind and, your site goes a LONG way to assisting this process, let me tell you ;-)
