Crystalens

Crystal Lens™ C&C Vision – was invented by a British eye surgeon who went across the Atlantic (Stuart Cummings). This device actually moves in the eye and provides accommodative power just like we have in our early years. Eye Surgeons have to be obsessive about lens calculation as well the operative procedure to ensure the device works properly. The device does work and is the first of its kind to receive approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Restoring the power of accommodation takes time in some patients (up to 3 months) and requires practice to ensure muscles not used for decades start functioning again. The level of satisfaction among patients after this eye surgery procedure is outstanding.

Crystalens

The Crystalens 5-0 is an advance on the earlier AT 45 Crystalens. This implant has attracted considerable interest in the US and currently Centre for Sight is one of very few European sites (April 2008) implanting the device. The implant is the only Accommodative lens approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and uses the eye’s natural focusing muscles to accomplish vision at all distances. Bausch and Lomb, the makers of eye products from contact lenses to Lasers for corrective eye surgery and the Stellaris cataract platform, realising the potential of the implant, recently acquired the company Eyeonics.
