The first Ultralase clinic was opened in January 1991 at the Clatterbridge Hospital near Chester. At the time, all treatments performed were Photorefractive Keratotomy, or PRK, until the Lasik procedure was introduced in 1995.

With the introduction of Lasik, and the clear advantages it demonstrated for certain patients, Ultralase went through a period of dramatic growth through 2002.

2003 Ultralase introduced the revolutionary UltraPlus treatment with Wavefront technology, giving patients visual outcomes far surpassing those of standard laser treatments. Ultralase became the first provider to have all treatment outcomes verified by independent audit.

In March 2009, the commitment to clinical excellence led Ultralase to become the first UK provider to have all Great Britain surgeons certified in Laser Refractive Surgery by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth).

Ultralase Prices

Ultralase comes in second place in our list of the best laser eye surgery clinics in the UK for price, just after Optical Express. That’s because this clinic offers the full shebang: transparent prices, 0% finance options, free consultations, and competitive prices.

The cost of eye surgery at Ultralase ranges between £1,1695 and £2,995 (per eye), depending on the treatment type that you agree upon in discussion with a surgeon. These prices are in line with the average cost of eye surgery, but not quite as low as Optical Express.

Treatments Offered

You can count on Ultralase for the main laser eye and lens replacement surgery procedures. These include: LASIK and LASEK with Wavefront options, as well as refractive lens exchange (RLE), implantable contact lenses, and cataract surgery.

Is Ultralase Right for You?

With nearly 3,000 overall positive reviews from independent customers in the UK, Ultralase is one of the best-rated laser eye surgery clinics by patients. People value this clinic for its:

  • Friendly prices – Fixed and reasonable prices help you know what to expect.
  • Nationwide clinics – Ultralase has 20 clinics in the UK, including in London, Reading and St Albans.
  • Decent aftercare – Ultralase provides free aftercare – one check-up and drops for the first three months.

Despite glowing reviews, however, it’s worth reading the fine print if you do choose Ultralase. In 2015, BBC’s Watchdog exposed the problems countless laser eye surgery patients have experienced accessing their lifelong aftercare.

Most user reviews on Lasik Eyes show happy experiences, but then again most people never need to take advantage of their lifetime guarantee. If you would like to find out whether Ultralase is the top-rated laser eye surgery clinic near you, we’re here to help.

Is it advised to perform laser surgery on one eye if the other has amblyopia? I am 70 years old.

Fantastic results! Appointments always fitted around me, staff always polite, helpful and courteous. Having Ultralase treatment has made an excellent change to my life. Having worn glasses and/or lenses for 26 years, it is a great feeling to be able to see when I get up in the morning and to be able to see 100% when swimming. 100% recommendation.

They deserve even more stars than I can give. Thouroghy professional throughout, no question to silly, explain everything thouroughly and even though they were paying for my op (lucky me won their monthly prizedraw and got zapped for free)had no hesitation in recommending the prceedure most suitable for me even though it was most costly for them. Aftercare has been top notch. I had a bit of inflamation but they have seen me 5 or 6 times in 3 weeks to make sure it is all sorted out as it should be.

I had contemplated laser surgery for some years but only made the decision to go ahed when my prescription changed, requiring me to wear reading glasses. Since having the treatmentmy eyesight has improved beyond 20/20 and the need for reading glasses has been delayed for a while at least. From day one I have been made aware of all the implications and the form the treatment would take. All my doubts were answered and the members of clinical staff were reassuring throughout. In short, I would have no hesitation in recommending Ultralase and I am in fact trying to persuade my son to take the plunge.

After spending time researching laser eye treatment, I finally went ahead and had the procedure. My eyes were -1.5 with astigmatisim. I decided on the UltraLASEKplus option at the Hammersmith clinic, with the surgery being carried out by Vinod Gupta. Like many people I was nervous on the day, but there was no need to worry. The operation was painless, the only uncomfortable part is a little bit of pressure on the eyes, but this only lasts for a few seconds. It was all over in 15 minutes with each step of the operation being talked through so there are no surprises. To my surprise I had no pain over the next few days, just a little discomfort from wearing the contact lenses. Once the lenses were removed after 5 days, my eyes became more comfortable and my vision improved day by day. It has now been over 2 weeks since the operation and I now have 20/20 vision with both eyes.

Although I was naturally worried about having my eyes treated, the professional service I received from the Ultralase team at Chelmsford really put me at ease. Everyone was brilliant and explained all the aspects of the treatment and aftercare really well. The treatment itself was over so quickly and I can honestly say I felt no pain. On leaving the clinic I was amazed to be able to look around and read all the signs!! Dr Vinod Gupta was brilliant - thank you I wish I had come sooner! x

Just had my 3 month appointment, managed the bottom line which is one line below 20/20. my prescription at present is +0.50, hopefully that will settle further from it's initial ( before Laser ) -4.25 left -1.25 right. Now that should give you a clue that i had my right eye lasered in 1991 using the PRK technique> This time i had UltraLASEK plus, it's so similar, they almost got it right in 91, but now the epithelium is saved instead of being thrown away , that way you dont get the hazing and other problems now..... Only slight problems i have are slight dry eye which i use gel type drops, and starbursts at night, now this one surprises me as the wavefront treatment is supposed to reduce this one, but the night time contrast is excellent, so would i recommend laser treatment, the answer is YES, i waited 14 years before having treatment again , i wanted the best treatment thats why i chose wavefront from Ultralase, but if you have the LASEK treatment then please ignore the ( 20 mins after returning home i had 20/20 vision ) your vision takes time to settle, a contact lens is in place for 7 days and i was told it would be 10 days before i could drive, but the end results are well worth it......( i was treated at Chester )

I had UltraLasik (L) and UltraLasikPlus (R) two days ago in the Ultralase Guildford Clinic. My prescription was -5.5/-5.0 Yes I was sceptical, Yes I was petrified. Yes - I was extremely squeamish. Yes - I still had it done because I believed the benefits far outweighed the risks. My thoughts two days later.... Wow. Amazing. Fantastic. Painless. Brilliant. Professional. Excellent. My eyesight is still settling down (and I expect this to continue for quite a while) but I already have 20-20 vision less than 24 hours later in my left eye and I am driving standard in my right. My particular thanks and praise goes to my eye surgeon Wayne Crewe-Brown who showed the utmost professionalism. He recommended a change in the type of surgery for one of my eyes the morning of the procedure and that gave me a lot of comfort that they actually treated me as an individual and that they only wanted me to have the BEST treatment that was appropriate for me. All the Guildford staff were brilliant but one of the nurses in particular, Jo, was outstanding. She completely put me at my ease and popped in loads to check I was ok. I'll keep you all informed as to progress in a week or so! In the meantime, I wish I could find something original to say but I can't! I can only repeat what so many other people have said "Its brilliant - don't think about it forever, just DO IT!"

Amazing result! Ultralase were great. I wish I'd had it done years ago. Can't wait to go snorkelling on holiday - FANTASTIC! And the novelty of being able to see the alarm clock never wears off.

I'm not very happy with the fact that Ultralase have banned me from their forum and deleted my post in which I asked why. I assume this is because I openly praise Accuvision and I have sent some private messages suggesting that people give them a try. However, the forum in no way forbids the discussion of other providers and even has a specific area to discuss them. There are very few rules to break. I won't give a rating as it would give an unfair picture of their treatment. Let's see if this post gets deleted too. Now that would be interesting.
