Maddie & Jill 2 very happy people who are free of glasses!!

After talking about it for years me and my mum decided we would have our eyes zapped after spending years wearing glasses. My prescription was -3.50&-4.25 and I am 27 and my mums (Jill) was -5.75&-6.50 who is over 45 yr (not allowed to give her age!) We attended the Birkdale Clinic near Sheffield last September for a free consultation with Mr Kennaugh who was very nice and explained everything to us, however I was found to be suitable for for LASIK but mum was advised that she would still need to wear reading glasses after, but she could have a Tetraflex that would correct her normal glasses and help her with her reading as well which may mean she wouldn't need any glasses at all!

We both spoke to a really nice lady called Sarah who went in to more detail about each of the procedures and how they worked and then told us we could take some time to think about it before choosing to have the surgery done or not. I didn't have to take any time as I knew I wanted to have it done as soon as possible, so I booked for the following week, but mum wanted some more time to do some research.

I was very nervous and excited all at the same time, a bit like a first date!! but I found everybody to be so nice and reasurring, Mr Khan was really nice and I knew that he was good as he had already treated 3 of my friends. I was in and out of the hospital within 3 hours and by the evening I was watching eastenders with a glass of wine and NO GLASSES! amazing!! It has been nearly 4 months and every morning I wake up expecting not to see - but I can!

Now my mum took a little longer to convince, after numerous calls to the clinic with loads of questions - (sorry Sarah) and a conversation with somebody who has already had the Tetraflex done, she finally booked a date for her first eye to be done in November and the second eye to be done 3 weeks later. Mum said she didn't feel a thing but didn't like the eye clamp much! it was all over in mins but unlike me she had to wear an eye patch until the next morning. When she took it off everything was clear! She was so excited that she tried to bring her 2nd appointment forward, but you have to wait 3 weeks! She had her 2nd eye done at the end of Nov.

A week after her 2nd eye mum phoned me to tell me that she had to read the paper to dad because he lost his reading glasses, and now he had booked an appointment for the Tetraflex as he didn't want to be out done! Parents are so like children sometimes!

I am so pleased for mum, as I knew how frustrating it was for her not to be able to read without swopping her glasses over first, I know I will need reading glasses when I get to 40yr but I will probably have the Tetraflex then, but I am so pleased with my Vision.

ADVICE..... I would recommend Birkdale Clinic because they care and listen to what you want to achieve. Mum had already had been to another clinic and was told she could have Laseik but would need reading glasses, she went to Birkdale because it was a hospital and it was recommended to her from friends, she has ended up having a fantastic eye sight WITHOUT READING GLASSES as well. Me - I am happy to go out clubbing without glasses! Thank you Mr Khan, Mr Kennaugh, Sarah and the team. xxxx
